Thread: The Fraternal Twin Tauers

    Default The Fraternal Twin Tauers

Yea, I'm talkin' bout L'air du désert marocain and Lonestar Memories. About two week ago I recieved a decant of the first and just today I got a sample in the mail of the latter. These are just soooooo good! Allow me to speak on each of them:
L'air du désert marocain- Upon first smell I thought it was just good, but after giving it a couple of wearing it has creeped into my top 5. This just reeks of quality and is easily one of the sexiest scents I've smelled. It earned me the most gushing compliment I've ever recieved which consisted of a girl in my class attacking me for like 10 minutes! She wouldn't shut up about how good I smelled and was freakin' out about it. It was funny because right before that happened I too couldn't help but notice how good I smelled. It has medium projection, which suits the scent well, and lasts pretty well though certainly not forever. Just an awesome scent!

Lonestar Memories- I can't say as much about this one because like I said I just recieved it today and I've only worn it on my wrist. I feel the same way about this one as I did about the former up first sniff, this one too could definately grow on me. I think it is the type of scent that will smell great on my body as opposed to my wrist. I don't tend to like leather scents but this one is an exception. In a few days I'll give an update on my impressions. I predict I will like it a lot but not quite as much as L'air du désert marocain.

You all need to try these scents! I'm extremely impressed by them and glad that I have had the chance to smell them.

I totally agree. I believe if more people were aware of Andy's fragrances, he could give Serge Lutens a run for his money! I have found the cheapest place to order his scents is directly from him on his website (he has samples too). I priced the bottles on Luckyscent and they are about $20 higher!!!

I received two bottles yesterday ( ordered them last week ). The package came from Switzerland. Both were carefully wrapped with a card signed by Andy Tauer himself. The shipment was very fast, indeed.

May I add that Lonestar Memories is one of the fragrances I ordered blind. I based this on Scenteur7's review and boy, what a pleasant surprise. This is one of the finest leather compositions I've encountered in a long, long time.

Unfortunately, the Tauer website charges shipping of $20 for one bottle and $37 for two. This eats up most of the savings. It's still cheaper but not by much. I do like the idea of supporting the perfumer directly though.

    Oh, man,
I just went to the website and L'air du desert sounds extremely enticing.

Now you've done it! More fancy stuff to drive me nuts!

I had no idea postage would be so much! I better pay closer attention in the future! Andy's blog is also really cool and I check it out every day (well, except weekends because he doesn't post). I feel like I have lived through the process of creating "Lonestar Memories".

I read a lot of perfume blogs (many are pointless and a couple I have found untrustworthy because they convinced me to buy something that turned out to be nasty and foul smelling) but then you come across one like Andy's that is brilliant and fresh. It's all about his life and how that impacts his perfume creations. I believe he is a genius. The cool thing is that we all have access to him. Check out the above link.

Yeah, and when you take into account that you get 5 free samples with a purchase from Lucky Scent (worth $12-$15 IMO), it might actually be cheaper to buy from them, at least for those of us in the US.

I just can't wait to try Lonestar.

Lonestar is just stunning. A totally new and unusual variation of leather, very smooth, soft and semi-floral. The jasmine makes this fragrance so unique (I find some similarities to TDC's Jasmine de Nuit, which is sweeter and darker than Lonestar). Very rich, intense and enormously long-lasting.
By the way, the packaging is nice, but I don't really associate the scent with horses, cowboys, wild west. So don't expect some dusty, sawmill-like like Dzing...

I ordered samples of these two late last week from the Tauer website so now I'm even more looking forward to trying them out after reading this thread.

L'air du desert marocain is a stunning frag. One of my absolute favorites and also the source of my most enthusiastic compliments. I had lived off the sample for weeks, as a little bit of it lasts a LONG time, but now I own a bottle of it and I don't see how it will ever be used up at one spray per application out of a 100 cc bottle.

I got my order in for Lonestar Memories, but have not had a chance to try it yet. It smells wonderful on the sprayer nozzle, but I am sure that is not the final word, as Marocain needs the skin to bloom fully.

Andy sure knows how to make 'em. I wonder if we will be reading about him working in a famous perfume house some day?

Lonestar was a suggestion on my American West scent thread request so I went to the website and ordered samples of both. I can't wait to try them.

But about the charges, it wouldn't make much sense for Andy to discount his fragrances cheaper than what his distributors charge or else his distributors would not want to carry them. When you buy from the distributors, you are ensuring that they continue to carry his fragrances! And I'm sure the perfumer would agree.

received samples of lonestar memories today...absolutely awesome...so far its taken about 2 hours to really settle into a fine aura...i can imagine leather but i recognize another aspect going on also although i cant really describe it at the moment...same high quality as desert but in a different vein...very nice and has the feeling of a fragrant oil as does desert .....not really associating it with the pictoral image accompanying it marketing-wise but nonetheless very enjoyable...i will be saving for a bottle of this for sure...if there's any money left after paris next week...lol

Is L'air desert Marocain heavy on the cumin?

I ask this because 2 that I have recently tried are Kingdom and Eau d Hermes, and they both seemed to be overpowering on the cumin. Definitely not my cup of tea. So now when I see a frag I am interested in, whenever I see cumin as a note, I kind of get jittery and weak in the legs.

I don't think Marocain is cumin in the same way at all. Lots of cedar, lots of amber, some florals - rich and thick - but I don't smell cumin in it like I do with Eau d'Hermes, which I also did not like at all.
