Default Recommendations for Books on Fragrance?

I would like to know of some good books on fragrance and perfume, that are written in English. Any recommendations?

    Hi, Rock,
I enjoyed reading Perfume, the Art and Science of Scent by Cathy Newman. A good historical overview. Admittedly, there aren't too many of these to choose from, at least that I've found.

Of course, you can read Michael Edwards' stuff if you can lay down some serious cash, but probably no more than buying one really pricey niche frag!

I also read Emperor of Scent, which is Chandler Burr's book about Luca Turin's science-of-smell exploits. Quite a few perfume thoughts as well. Pretty heavy on the science, though a good read. Nowadays supposedly others have superceded Turin's theories.

I'm intrigued by Perfume, the Story of a Murderer, which is apparently a historical mystery, pretty dark, I hear.

It's been mentioned before, but _Perfume_ by Patrick Suskind is a fictional book with much research and factual information on perfumery. I personally haven't read it yet ... it's sitting on my bookshelf on my "waiting list" but there's nothing but excellent reviews for it.

Make sure you read the book first! I can't imagine the movie doing it any justice because it's truly one of the most pleasant books I've read. People who have read the book and seen the trailer must agree that the actor who plays Grenouille is far too pretty... and that's already one cornerstone where the movie fails to capture the essence of the book

I recently read this and not only does it cover Coco Chanel's history with perfume, it has a lot of general history of perfume. A very good read. Also available from Audible.com.

The Secret of Chanel No. 5: The Intimate History of the World's Most Famous Perfume, by Tilar J. Mazzeo

Perfumes: The A-Z Guide if you want something that's fun to read as there's so many reviews. Also you can get this on a Kindle which is the edition I have.

Two that I searched on Amazon were "Essence and Alchemy" by Mandy Aftel and "Introduction to Perfumery" by Tony Curtis.
