According to the Creed website, Oliver Creed is: 'now widely regarded as the world’s greatest living “nose”,'

Certainly no one can dispute this.

It's hard to say who the best noses are, because it seems like for the more freelance noses they will create a masterpiece one day and a garbage commerical frag the next. There is a huge lack of consistancy. It is easier to say that a nose is one of the best if they are loyal to a single house and you think that that particular house puts out the best stuff.

If the Creed website were a building we would have burned it down by now.

Thats an article from an english newspaper, not some writing conjured by Creed. Whether true or not, they are free to use it on their website as media press...it is a business afterall. If someone posted an article about you being one of the more interesting posters on Basenotes, whether true or not, you would feel flattered too and rake in the applauds.

Thanks for the link. This is very interesting. These noses work for so many houses on so many projects, it makes me wonder how the industry works. It seems to me that the houses are essentially publishing companies, so why do the "authors" not get credit?

Also it makes me rethink Creed; as far as I understand this house is run by one nose at a time for many years with a small overlap to the next generation. This surely must have a profound effect on the house's consistency, quality control and style. Does anyone know which other houses are run along similar lines?

Also - cool water is made by the same nose as kouros !! If only he knew the trouble he caused on basenotes and - he must be very wealthy !!!!!!

Creed's quality control is often spoken of here.

I assume you mean the "batch" quality issues I have seen discussed here? I was really meaning the quality and consistency in new relaeases (which in my opinion has only failed on original santal, but I don't like santal much anyway , so I'm not the right judge)
