    Default Favorite Rose Scent

For those of us who don't mind smelling like an old lady , there are some interesting rose scents out there. So far my favorite is L’Ombre dans L’Eau by Diptyque. For me, it is like standing in a garden and smelling a real rose. I don't understand what the name is all about, though. This rose scent has no connection (for me) to the image of a shadow in the water.

Anyone else have a fav rose scent?

Voleur du Rose by L'artisan for its wonderful earthy rose and Rose D'Homme for its much softer, delicate rose/leathery accord.

Hmm, I wonder if the tester of L'Ombre dans L'Eau I tried was bad cause I thought it smelled terrible! Unwearable to be honest like very very old pot pourri that had been sitting in water for months. I'm not trying to be horrible, I really am serious! I hope the tester was bad!

The original Acqua di Parma. I know it's a fair way from being a pure rose scent, but the rose note in this is prominent enough for it to warrant a mention on this thread.

I just picked up a 50 ml. EdP of Houbigant Aperçu. It's a beautiful chypre-style scent with a subtle, but definite rose note that just barely predominates over the oakmoss accord.

    I recommend a sniff.

It's not exactly a "rose scent", but I really like the faint rose note in Burberry Brit. It's very subtle and blends harmoniously w/ the other notes.

l'Ombre is a fabulous scent. It reminds me of the Garden of the Woman Who Could Conjure from Anderson's "Snow Queen". You can read my full review of it on my blog:
    http://ayalasmellyblog.blogspot.com/...dans-leau.html

As for my own favourite rose scents - I like my roses dark and a bit spicy, dry, musky... Although I love the scent of fresh roses, I am yet to find a scent that mimics the fresh rose scent that I like. Here are a few of my most favourite rose perfumes:

    Parfum Sacre (Caron)
    Nuit de Noel (Caron)
Fete d'Hiver (from my own collection - Ayala Moriel Parfums)
    Agent Provocateur

I alos love - but don't wear as often:
Black Rose (Goya) - very similar to Nuit de Noel, but it's vintage and I only have about 1/2ml left... Otherwise I will be wearing it more often.
    Ta'if
    Tocade
Cabaret (from my collection as well)
Ivoire (I like the leather and dry notes of this more than the green notes though)

I have fallen in love with the rose fragrance by Le Labo as well as the one by parfumerie generale. These are blended with other oils however. True rose would be more along the lines of opone.

I know I just posted this reply on a different thread but...

My all time favorite rose is Creed's Fleurs de Bulgarie. It is a magnificent rose. When you apply it, you get a burst of deep red roses but after a short while, the ambergris kicks in and I love this part where the rose and ambergris share the stage. Finally, the rose departs and the musk and ambergris finish out the day. You heard correctly, this lasts all day! It starts out very rosey but quickly turns masculine with ambergris and musk. I love this very much and I always get a compliment. I laugh to myself knowing this was made for one of England's monarchy...can't remember which queen though. LOL.

So many great suggestions and no one who mentions my two favourites the beautiful, delicate Rose Poivrée (The Different Company) and the powdery, macho Musk (Lorenzo Villoresi)

I also think Ungaro III is worth an honorable mentioning!

    My favorite rose scents are:
    Rose d´Homme
    Black Aoud
    No. 88
    and L´Ombre dans l´Eau.
I don´t get that much rose from Voleur de roses, maybe because le voleur has stolen the roses and left all the plum trees behind....
