Default Why do scents vanish in hot weather?

We all know it: Spray yourself 100 times and step out in the summer........very fast the scent is gone - even though it may be a heavy one.

But why it it? Is is just going away with the sweat or......? Any suggestions? Is there anything you can do about it?

Yes. You perspire more when it is hot, which leads to more evaporation of all kinds of molecules from your body including fragrances. What can you do about it? Two words: air conditioning.

Even in a/c I lose a fragrance faster in the summer. I think that summer scents are lighter in general. They are not heavy orientals used durring the cooler seasons. Longevity is an issue with most of these summer scents as it is but with perspiration it just diminishes faster. I found that a spray to the shirt helps.

    ^^ Just a thought...

Sweating and body heat can sometimes recharge citrusy scents - I have observed this with Gendarme, 4711, and Neroli Sauvage.

Because none of them are Azzaro Chrome.

The others may disappear due to sweat and heat, but this one doesn't.

you might give Boucheron pour homme (edp is amazing!) )and Monsieur balmain (the new one) a try, they are cirtus-herbs frags that last longer than ,say, 4711 or R&G's extra vieille or others in that line

Yeah, and Monsieur Balmain is so refreshingly lemony that on a hot day people just want to suck you

That's what I do in heat like we've been getting in London recently.

At present I'm refreshing my scent about 6-8 times daily and getting through substantial quantities!

The heatwave in India was really bad this year. In my city, the temperatures were regularly over 42C and easily touched 45C. In those conditions, even long-lasting perfumes like Envy, Xeryus etc etc would disappear in just a couple of hours (even if applied onto clothes, they'd barely be detected at the end of a few hours).

Chrome doesn't last too long either, unfortunately. And only the very brave would venture OUT in the sun from noon to evening. The weather is a bit more to my liking these days - in the 30's - due to the rain, and its a pleasure wearing perfumes now.

I decided to give Chrome a chance today and I really must admit that it lasted much longer than any other scents I have worn this summer - and normally Chrome is a weakling on me!

Good to see someone else sharing it's longevity. I only mentioned Chrome because during my treks through an ultra hot Europe last year, it was the only one out of 15 or more scents that wouldn't conk out and disappear on me part way through the day.

I think it's because they're used more often.

I agree with this. Chrome lasts exceptionally long on me for a fresh scent. Terre d'Hermes is another one that never fails in any type of weather.

Today I decided to wear Chrome's fresher "brother": Gant Adventure.
I was quite amazed to notice that this one lasted even longer! Actually Adventure is a great fresh ozonic scent which gets far to little attention. I know Gant is a "boring" name and so is the bottle, but if you can ignore that then you have a great scent for hot summer days!
