Default Frags that smell totally different from the rest?

I have an uneducated nose, and getting into the scent scence here at basenotes has been exciting.I have tried at least 30 - 40 scents and i find a lot of them smell very similar. However,i picked up A*Men and nearly collapsed.
Wow,what a different smell !So i guess im asking what frags (other than A*Men) smell very very different?

    Thanks...

    I´m baaaaaaaaaaacckk.... (well, almost)

If you really want scents that are different, you will have to go niche.

L´Artisan is a start. So is the Comme Des Garcons line.

Mainstream department stores usually carry only mainstream fragrances, so look around for boutiques.

ps- Writing from a foreign keyboard is really difficult.

pss- And my Dave Chappelle/Tyrone Biggums avatar is gone! What will I put in now¿

psss- The question mark is upside down on the pss because I cannot find the right-side up alternantive on this foreign keyboard...

The Divine scents, L'Homme Sage and L'Homme de Coeur are very unusual and not like anything else. L'Homme Sage is a spice overdose of indescribable beauty, while LdC is a most original use of iris, a note that I usually don't like, but employed here in a perfect setting.

Coze (02) by Parfumerie Generale is another completely unique scent. Deep, intoxicating hempseed with dark chocolate and coffee.

Oh and not to forget the delicious Idole by Lubin. Bitter orange peel soaring over a bonfire of rare woods and spices.

saflyfish: You said in your post that you have tried 30 - 40 scents but found them very similar. Could you name some of those scents?

I couldn't find any wardrobe for you, so I'm just wondering what you've tried and liked or not liked out of them.

I don't think anything smells quite like L'Anarchiste.

Of course, the smell of L'Anarchiste makes me think of that old gag from Ren & Stimpy, when they play that board game "Don't Whizz on the Electric Fence." It's just not pleasant. But it's definitely unique!

Fahrenheit, and CdG Oarzazate (sp?), Zagorsk, and Avignon are all very distinctive and quite original! Frederic Malle's Noir Epices is a very different take on a spicy melange as well. And I think these are all quite pleasant to female noses! :-)

Talking of frags that are "different", but in the wrong way..... Yatagan from the same fragrance house as L'Anarchiste, Caron, is also very very unique, but not in a good way to me at all. It's the smell of Gordon Ramsey after he's been at work in a hot aggressive kitchen all day with lots of celery and meat getting thrown around. I give it the rating of "most weird fragrance of all time". (Apologies/respect to any Yatagan fans reading!)

Many men also used "feminine" fragrances to add variety to their wardrobe. It seems like at least once a month a thread shows up in the men's or women's fragrance area discussing which women's fragrances might work for a man.

Unisex fragrance have a lot of variety. Serge Lutens has a lot of unisex fragrances that are very interesting. People often have samples and decants of them on offer.

It's great reading that a man is looking for interesting fragrances. Men's traditional fragrances are pretty trite with an overemphasis on lavender and citrus.

i dont think kouros qualifies since its top and mid notes are too similar to Orange Spice, even if its drydown is shocking and unique

Somewhere out there there is a scent that smells like A*men. I'm sure of it. But how many people do you think has actually smelled Orange Spice? And is Orange Spice the only scent that smells like Kouros? I'm sure its not. But name alot of things that DO smell like Kouros.

Angel Men and Kouros don't count, no. True, they are unique in their class, but each is of a category with many like scents. (Hell, Angel Men is out just by virtue of Angel.) I understand the premise to be: Which scents are so unique, there really is no scent that is even within fifty yards of smelling like this fragrance? That's going to make for a very short list, really.

Oh, and Fendi Uomo reminds me of Kouros, too.

M7 is totally unique to itself. The fresh version is all that comes close to it but it is also a spin off of the orriginal so that makes sence.

I've never smelled anything similar to Tea for Two and Mechant Loup either. They seem to be very unique. Most L'Artisans are.

    That is all for now.

    SMN Nostalgia is pretty unique.
Ormonde Jayne Men (it could be similar to the original OJ - I haven't smelled it)
Biche dans l'absinthe is very odd, but very rare. I wonder if this one has disappeared completely.

If we're talking unique, why hasn't anyone mentioned MPG? Everything they do is out of the ordinary, pushing all boundaries of sanity and logic. I like perhaps one from their line, but they all seem to be "different from the rest".

Eau Noire is a top-notch frag. I do think Annick Goutal Sables is
similar, though. This is not a bad thing, as they are both great.

I don't understand how so many people consider Farenheit exceptionally unique when I find that its drydown is quite similar to Tommy Bahama. Perhaps it's just me though.
