Default Which Designer Would You Like to See Release a Scent?

By this point, most fashion designers have released a fragrance - or twenty - to capitalize on their cachet with the public who could not in a thousand years afford their overpriced clothes and accessories. (It also doesn't hurt that it's a nice source of revenue and brand-building.) But some of the edgier designers of the verge of breaking bigger haven't released fragrances, and a few designers that have only released women's fragrances have yet to release a men's counterpart.

Which designer would you most like to see release a men's scent to match his or her (or their) design aesthetic?

    * Designers have released women's or unisex scents, but no designated men's scents.

I have two designers in mind: Spanish designer Miguel Adrover

    Belgian designer Martin Margiela

I'm fascinated by them because they shun the media and their work speak for themselves. They are both very unique designers.

Locally here in Los Angeles, Chrome Hearts , should they decide to create a fragrance; it would be really interesting: "Rock n Roll/Gothic"! Then again, it would be overpriced-- just like all their stuff.

I have to admit ... I don't go all that "in depth" with this hobby ... so I never even heard of more than half the designers you have listed. But being a big guy, I did get a little excited when I saw the name "Pringle" there. I would love to see a men's scent of their "Loaded Baked Potato" chip! Though I don't think that's who you meant.

Anyway, I voted for Etro. I always thought the frags I tried from them were well made ... though a bit on the feminine side for "unisex". I think they would do well creating a dedicated men's scent.

Can anyone remember love? It's like trying to summon up the smell of roses in a cellar. You might see a rose, but never the perfume.

Isn't Vivienne Westwood planning to release her first male fragrance later this year?

I'm pretty sure there was a low key Pringle one a few years back too

John Galliano for me. I think he is capable of creating something way more artistic and daring than most. Just thinking about his room spray makes me drool on the keyboard...

I said Junya Watanabe. it'd be interesting to see what "CDG Signature" would be like.

Miu Miu. I think it would be more fun and playful than Prada, like its clothing aesthetic. But, like Prada, I think it would still be interesting and innovative. Aside from that, I'd like to see Ghesquiere for Balenciaga or Mihara Yasuhiro.

I'm not at all excited about the Dsquared scent. Like their fashion, it will probably be like Dolce&gabbana, only trashier.

That Vivienne Westwood men's scent rumor has been kicking around for years. So, until a name and bottle actually show up in the trades, I figure I'd include it...

McQueen. I love what he did with his women's scents, a men's would surely be an interesting contrast to many of the disappointments of late.

I'm clueless about fashion designers. Designer names are just fragrance brand names to me and I have no sense of their styles or aesthetics except as they relate to previous fragrance releases.

For those of you who are knowledgeable about fashion, do you find that designer branded fragrances have similarities to the designer's other products?

    --Steve
Just because it happened to you doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

    Alexander McQueen
Martin Margiela (loved the Giacobetti Hiris olfactive translation of his design @Hermes)
Bottega Veneta (because it would be maybe a great and artisanally crafted leather scent like their famous criss-cross leather bags!)
Olivier Theyskens (I've always found his retrò-futuristic style interesting)

I guess I should've put "Pringle of Scotland." They're a knitwear maker out of, well, Scotland that has, as of late, been remaking themselves in the Burberry mold, showing collections in Milan and such, going very high end.

I imagine a fragrance from Pringle (of Scotland) is only a matter of time.

Check out the Pringle of Scotland website.

John Galliano if they don't go the ususal 100%-focus-group-accpetance route. He seems to talk a lot about pirates. I want a piratey fragrance. Arrgh!Shiver me timbers! A pox on ye gangrene-infested limbs, bucko!

Got to agree Serp about the Westwood rumour, it's been doing the rounds for about 5 years. The manager of the local Westwood boutique is sick of me asking if there is any news on it....haha!

I voted for Etro, since I've tested some of their scents (do they make Messe et Minuet?) at Liberty and they seemed reasonably interesting. But I wasn't very impressed with the List Of Designers that we were offered to vote on as a whole. Where are the important designers? Hermès, Dior, YSL?

I can't imagine buying Pringle for Men if it existed. Their sweaters are OK, but that doesn't necessarily mean their scent will be good. Some of the names on the list I've never even heard of.

I think the point was designers that don't already have mens scents, hermes, dior and ysl all clearly already do.

Dsquared should release a twin-perfume. 2 uniform-looking bottles but with different scent.

Personally, I am waiting for Proenza Schouler perfume.

That sounds like the Ozwald Boateng fragrance, actually, which comes in a bottle with a double sprayer. One can spray on the scents individually or together.

I trust Narciso Rodriguez will do a great new thing! they are currently working on a men's fragrance...and Beauty Prestige International (Miyake, Gaultier, Rodriguez) are not the type to release 4 perfumes a year, they really take their time until it's perfect!
Louis Vuitton would be interesting, as it's their first (modern) perfume. I'd see something like the Hermessences, but in better!
