Aww, I can't wait for this one. I wish it was a little later to match the type of scent with a more suitable season. That is ok though...

if august 1 is the release date, do you know in what stores it will be featured? that is, will it be a general release date, or something more specific (ie., only in big cities)? thanks!

    The notes are tantalizing.
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Yes, it is. Doesn't it just sound amazing!

It is a little strange sounding but I think the notes will blend nicely. I can't wait for this one.

    I didn't buy yet...I got a sample from the tester/decant at Nordstrom's.

It was kinda cool because the men's fragrance manager had their bottle hidden. She recognized me from being in there a few times before and said she'd be happy to share a little of their decant with me. So she burrowed around in a drawer and brought out a little 8-10ml decant with a handwritten label and made me a scent strip and then made me a small sample vial to take with me.

Hey Dr. Bubba, was it the nice older Russian lady?

I was just out that way the other day, but I didn't make it to Nordstroms. Let us know what you think of it.

Can you at least spray some on your wrist or somewhere and give us some sort of impression?? How was the scent strip? I'm off to Nordies tomorrow that's for sure.

No I have talked to Luiza before, but this was Karie.

Cindy and one of the other ladies (Christine, I think is her name?) said hi, by the way.

Christine (if that's actually her name) is Nordstrom's Mugler specialist and we talked for a bit. She gave me 4 vials of A*Men Summer Flash. I got hooked up for sure.

I got a sample vial from Nordstrom a few weeks ago.

It's a solid gold hit. Warm, sorta old-school with good sillage and lasting power. The notes blend together terifically to produce a really unique fragrance, though I didn't think the amber was predominant.

I'm in line for a bottle. It's bottle-worthy for sure.

That thread makes me glad I stumbled upon Basenotes first... POL seems really lame in comparison. That guy couldn't be more of a drama queen! That thread reminds me of Serpent's TdH thread. The difference is that Serpent is smart.

I knew you were somehwere around here! Good to see you post again! Not to spur a debate or anything, but I'm just wondering, do you still loathe TdH like you used to? I didn't care for it much at first either but after a few testings I think it's a really fantastic scent. I also think that it's totally different than the Jardins, which I agree aren't particularly good.

    Oh, Lordy...

To clarify the Terror d'Hermès issue:

I was one of the thousand and have a little bottle of the stuff. Yes, I still don't care for it. On wearing it more, I see I was a bit off on calling it plain lemon dishwashing liquid. I see now it's lemon dishwashing liquid with sugar and dirt. It just doesn't work for me.

But - and this is where I think most people lost my argument - the biggest problem I have with this scent and all of Ellena's work for Hermès is that it does not fit with the Hermès style. Hermès is all about the utmost in luxury. Bel Ami, Équipage (how could carnation ever be made that incredibly creamy?), Rocabar - these are all incredibly big, luxurious scents; the women's line is just as elegant and sober. They perfectly represent the Hermès philosophy. It's a house that prides itself in making Louis Vuitton look like Wal-Mart, but Ellena is making scents that are watery, wan, pale, stripped-down. He is making decidedly unluxurious scents; they just smell... cheap. The Hermèssence scents are all thin and shallow. Ditto the Jardins line. While one could argue Giacobetti's Hiris is a rather simple, unluxurious composition, it is one centered on one of the most luxurious items in all perfumery. Ditto the ambergris-focused Eau des Merveilles, the last non-Ellena scent. Ellena doesn't even use luxurious notes. There's no iris, civet, ambergris, musk, or such employed in his compositions. It's just... vetiver. Cumin. Rhubarb. Citrus. Dirt. Literally - dirt. The most patrician house is now passing off the most plebian notes. It's like going to Spago or Jean-Georges and getting plain white rice and beans at $100 a plate. I'm sorry, but I fail to see the luxury in that.

Had Terre d'Hermès come from, say, Etro or Bulgari or even been the debut from Bottega Veneta (they imagine themselves the "Italian Hermès" - keep dreaming), I'd have gone much easier on the scent. But Hermès has a history and an image to maintain, and Ellena has cheerfully gone about decimating it with his pallid, anorexic scents. That is what is most appalling about Terre d'Hermès.

    Does that clarify the issue?

On the reverse, Prada is coming off much better by their scent (though the new Eau Tendre is a major misstep to my nose). I think they actually chose a juice that was not the obvious commercial choice to a lot of other companies, and they've got a potential classic on their hands. But how that woman gets such praise for those tacky clothes is beyond me. The Rem Koolhaas stores - pardon me, "Epicenters" - are great, though...

scored a couple of bottles of this stuff...It is really awesome..great sillage and lasts for 6-8 hours..very rich with a light floral and rich in amber..probably best realease so far this year..

Popping in to share my thoughts:

First, the top notes to me a very very floral...the floral and amber is almost making me want to put on some reading glasses, grab a shawl, and bake cookies. It felt very grandmothery...

Now that its been on a while, the musk and sandalwood and patchouli are kicking in and I do like it. The floral has taken a backseat and now its just fuzzy and musky. I can still get hints of the geranium, but its turned, as I said, more musky and smells fuller.

Well...that's what my inexpereinced nose says, anyway.

Funny. I recently got my bottles of Jaipur PH EdP and Prada Amber PH at the same time....

No, I do not think they have that much in common. Jaipur PH is more about vanilla and spice, an oriental that breaths luxurious class that I do not think Prada PH can compete with. In fact, I do not even think Prada's new creation is in the same league as Jaipur.

As previously mentioned it has a lot of fleeting/floral top notes that fades into an ambry heart note (mixed with geranium), that on me lasts somewhat surprisingly short (1 hour at most) considering the name of the fragrance. This amber note gradually melts into the "woody" base notes (sandalwood, cardamom and a very slight hint of patchouli). The overall feel I get from the fragrance (in particular the base notes) is like smelling an exclusive coat or wool blazer. I tend to agree with the post on POL (see previous post under this thread) that reviewed a test strip scented with Prada PH, saying that it contains “a very intense fabric smell”. I will probably bring the bottle out again when the weather turns colder, since this should be nicely suited for autumn. But I must admit this one is going to have a difficult time to ”knock” autumn stalwarts like L’Instant PH and Rive Gauche off my perfume shelf.

I hold my thumbs that the new YSL L’Homme and CK Euphoria PH will have more character than this one.

    Cool Re: Mens Prada

smells like clean, fresh, old barbers' soap, little bit of lavander, cant' smell the amber, nor the suede. smells like Helmut Lang, or a much fresher version of Lui de Rochas or YSL Rive Gauche pour homme...The bottle is amazing with the pump, without it it looks like Carolina Herera's Chic LOL

I'm smelling the scented ad of Prada Amber pour Homme in the September issue of Vanity Fair. It's a very soapy fougère, part of it reminds me of the powdery basenotes of Acqua di Parma Absoluta (it too contains amber). There is really something vintage about it. Overall I'm surprised, It's totally the opposite of what I was expecting. This is not the gay-club-overpowering-Amber-Patchouli-overdose I imagined when I read the ingredients list (There is the Prada for Women for that purpose). Prada Amber has that British classic touch Italians love so much.

Sampled this the other day at the Holt Renfrew and I must say that it is just another 'ok' offering. But being the first men's fragrance from Prada, it should have been a better product.

Reminded me of L'Anarchiste and something else. but the initial notes were fleeting and on the whole it was not particulary balanced or memorable.

Neiman Marcus has it on their website, in-stock and ready to ship.

(And, unlike their stores, their website does take other payment methods besides NM's own credit card and AmEx.)

I just got a chance to try this at Saks the other day. Here is my mini review:

It started out smelling like this "kitchen spice" hand soap my girlfriend got from bath and body works one time. Lots of herbs and flowers that would be nice washing your hands with or making dinner, but not as a mens fragrance. I didn't like it from the get go. Then, drying down it turns into what I smell on many many old people these days. Very floral and eventually nauseating. I really hate this stuff, a scrubber if I have ever known one to be. Maybe Prada should have stuck with fashion design.

Haven't smelled it, but it sounds to me it will be similar to Davidoff Silver Shadow, only with added flowers. Anyone can confirm this?
