A perplexing Etro question.....

Hi there!

I just wanted to ask you something in case anyone knows, since there are many knowledgable people here.
I tested an Etro fragrance at a shop in a foreign country and do not remember the name well. I seem to not be able to find it anywhere on-line and wonder.
It seemed to be "Mille Viole" or something ( I don't remember exactly like I told you) and smelled like smoky violets or something, it had an intriguing smell. The label seemed to be a little purple with the Etro parsley swirls too.
If anyone has a link with the Etro line with pics it might help. I can't seem to find it on Escentual.

Anyone know anything about it? I know the new Etro is called Dianthus and will smell of carnation (it's upcoming), so it's not that one for sure.

Are you sure that it was an Etro fragrance? Perhaps it just had a paisley label, an Etro-like bottle. Up until now, all Etro scents have been in the squarish bottles with the little beige paper labels, with the exception of Anice and New Tradition, which have more designed labels, and the three tall Benetroessere scents (Relent, Raving, and Resort). They have only very recently started to make colorful labels, though. I was in the Etro boutique just a few weeks ago, and they didn't have any such scent as you describe.

I suspect what you describe was not an Etro product.

Was it Vicolo Fiori? That's the only Etro name your recollection calls to mind for me...

Here's a link to the Etro line, but be aware that they do issue limited edition fragrances from time to time that do not always show up here, such as Mahogany or Via Verri. Was it Messe de Minuit?

alas, I am 100% sure. It was a bottle in a shelf devoted to Etros.
It came in the regular bottle (not the Relent, Raving etc).

thanks for the link and the sugestion to the Limited edition. (ggrrrrr...I really liked it and didn't buy!)
I may have confused the Via Verri with violets in my mind (freudian slip?)....I will go search about this in detail.

Etro's Palais Jamais came to mind when I read your discription: it's certainly smoky, but with jasmine being the dominant floral note. Very green and astringent. Very unusual, and one of my favorite Etros.

Palais Jamais comes in a plain beige label, no violet coloration.

Mille Viole would be "A thousand violets" in Italian. That would be amazing. But no search turns this up. I find it strange no one seems to know a thing about it.

And what's this Via Verri?

VV is more herbal than rose.

The only place I've seen it (hand numbered boxes) is Il Profvmo in Rome near the Piazza di Colonna.

RRR! After reading that review, I totally want Via Verri! I love rose scents! And violets, too, if that Mille Viole exists. The bitterness and astringency of both flowers strikes me as more masculine than feminine. Carnation is another flower I just don't see on women. I've noticed that rose and violet scents seem to have fallen out of fashion with women over the decades, too. White florals are much more common, and when roses are used, they're always very soft and blurry, not like the big, soapy roses of, say, Miss Balmain. But this is totally getting off topic...

I read the MUA review and i got even more confused, because I know that violets and roses have been resurrected and combined in some recent offerings like L'artisan Drole de Rose and F.Malle Lipstick Rose, but both of those were too sweet and quite powdery. So maybe it is not Via Verri after all?

The Etro was the perfect blend, because it had a smoky element, not surupy sweetness and wasn't old-fashioned. It was individual....I am amazed I can't find it. I should have grabbed it when I could. :-(

Sure it was Via Verri.
I tried it at KaDeWe shop when i visited Berlin .
I think is the best Etro,purple box and called Via Verri Vintage. Was my fault that i dont got it.

Well, if it is in a purple box, that's the one. I was sure it was purple, even if not so sure on the name (and must imagined a name because of the smell).

Yes, it was the best Etro I have tried and what a shame I didn't grab it then and there! Very unique blend, an earthy touch on top of floral, with depth.
