    Default Fragrance Allergy..Input Appreciated

A friend of mine asked me a question to which I had no definite answer.

My friend is allergic to Oak trees. If he wants to try a fragrance which contains a natural Oak note, should there be concern for him having a potential adverse reaction?

I told my friend that the Oak oil would likely be strongly diluted and that I would think that he has nothing to worry about, but perhaps to just apply a small amount at first to test it.

Anyone have any experience/opinions with this sort of dilemma? Thanks!

Allergic to Oak trees in what way? Probably allergic to pollen from oak trees right? Try it and if there is some problem wash it off and take a benedryl.

Pretty much what I was thinking. What kind of adverse reaction? Skin rash, trouble breathing, headaches???

Yeah, I'm quite sure he's simply allergic to the pollen from oak trees, and was afraid of some sort of skin irritation.
I don't think he has much to worry about, but just wanted to hear some other's opinions on the matter.

    Thanks again

I'd say there's a strong chance that a fragrance with real oak wood would cause a bad allergic reaction. But, it could be totally synthetic OR not contain the actual allergen molecules, in which case it wouldn't. So the only way to know is to try it out.

Also, don't confuse oak with oakmoss. Totally different plants.
