Default Collection, meet John Varvatos; JV, meet my collection.

My 2.5oz John Varvatos arrived today. I know that the prevailing opinion here on John V is ďho-humĒ, but I really like Tamarind though (Iíve even got tamarind hard candy) so for me this juice is unique enough to justify $24 for a bottle. Iíll post a review after Iíve had a chance to really wear it. Iíve only dabbed with my 7ml mini up to this point.

Meantime, has anyone sniffed JV Vintage?

Where did you find it for $24?

I like my mini alright, I use it for generic 'going out' occasions.

On ebay. Pretty standard price from the more reputable sellers out there. S&H was $7.

"Ho-hum"? Really?? John Varvatos was actually the runner-up for best new frag of 2004 (right behind B*Men) in the annual Basenotes Fragrance Awards.

For the record, I love John V!!

    Dave,

I like this fragrance. Wearing it today I believe I've noticed some resemblance to Boss Bottled, another fragrance that gets the "ho-hum" treatment but that I really like.

Actually i've whiffed JV-Vintage and i find it more comfortable during the winter months than JV-org (although this can be worn all year round). I've been told that women are digging the Vintage over the original much more. I wish that i can recall the structure of the scent but to my nose it's more pleasing.. Sorry I wish that I could get more in the depth with my reply. Perhaps someone else can indulge.

I like JV too ... but I get absolutely no longevity out of it ... and the Vintage was even worse. I "ebay-ed" it after one wearing.

They really need to do a JV "extreme" or "intense".

I think this is a fantastic scent and it is hands down the favorite among the women in my office. "Masculine" is the word I hear most often.

I was able to test both through samples. IMO JV is better than JV Vintage. JV is a good, interesting scent. I do like the tamarind and can also pick up on the date note. However, on me, neither lasts very long.

I recently picked this one up, myself. Haven't worn it a whole lot yet though. I first wore a sample of it & accidentally splashed a bit too much on. Luckily I was just going out to a local bar. I loved being able to smell it most of the night, though :P.

I have both JV's and wear them regularly...at this point, I prefer Vintage and its gentlemanly smoothness. They are definitely different enough to own both, with such differences becoming much more apparent after you live with and spend quality time with each of them. Both are well-constructed and last the day on me.
