Arrow Greatest Contemporary Classic among mainstream masculines

“Greatest Contemporary Classic” should fit contemporary style but not fall in the trap of being generic. An original and outstanding new creation with strong roots in the traditions of art of perfumery. A great smell which lasts long on our skins, in our favorite lists and of course in the market.
The poll’s list consists of some launches after 2k. I’ve tried to achieve a practically short and fair list, but ly I’ve injected my personal opinion as well in the process of making the list. “Prada”, “Antidote” and “Armani Code” are there, because I consider them well crafted noteworthy launches and I’m sure lots of you disagree with it!
And also Burberries (London and Brit) had a chance to enter the list especially because of the protests of some BNer (like the_good_life) against the list of a thread with the same theme few months ago. But honestly I don’t think of them as great as others in the list; and finally I put London out for the sake of “john varvatos vintage” which is a better crafted and better smelling product with similar smell. My prediction is that the final competition would be between "Narciso RFH" and "TD Hermes" but I'm curious to see the results of such a poll.
I would be happy to know your opinions about niche products and/or mainstream one which are noteworthy in this regard.

It was a toss up between most of those, especially M7, Gucci pour Homme, and Dior Homme. I went with Christian Dior though. I'm surprised I don't see more for Terre d'Hermes. Maybe it just needs more time.

M7's my favorite out of the lot but I had to vote for Terre d'Hermes for its popularity...we are talking "contemporary" after all...

M7 and Gucci PH are excellent, but I couldn't imagine wearing them more than once every two weeks (and that's a "stretch" for me).

I think leaving London off the list for Brit was a travesty and that it is better than Vintage too, despite liking Vintage. In fact I'm not sure why London wouldn't be on over Narcisco, Prada Amber, or Armani Code.

My vote would be none except to see the stats I out TdH because it is growing on me.

I expected TdH, dior homme and Gucci ph to win this. Certainly the first two are well on the way to classic status. Brit is probably not, but I chose it anyway. For the reasons, see my recent review.

I couldn't decide between two so I voted for both: Prada Amber and Antidote. I think Prada Amber smells a bit higher quality, but Antidote is one of the most complex perfumes that I've encountered. It's just that as of late I've grown sensitive to some note in the base and it's obscuring the composition of the scent for me.

This is a tough one for me to decide on! There are a lot of my favorites mentioned in this list including M7, Terre d'Hermes, Lolita Lempicka au masculin, Burrberry Brit, etc. It's hard not to just pick my fave from the bunch (which would be Lolita Lempicka au masculin) & be objective to the reasoning behind the thread.

I think my final choice goes to...Burberry Brit.

Dior Homme for me, and it looks like I'm not alone. DH captured my vote because it is beautifully balanced, rich, and, in my opinion, unique. There's nothing out there quite like it. 2nd and 3rd votes went to Prada Amber and Tom Ford. I almost voted for NRfH, which I like (my SOTD today), but I can't say that it's a classic in the sense that it will live on long after the fad of its release. Dior Homme will.

I disagree, contemporary is a relative term, I don't think it necessarily just means "recent releases". I found it hard to reconcile some of the options with the term "classic"; for that reason I would have broadened the scope of "contemporary classic" to include e.g. Antaeus, Bel Ami, Kouros and even Azzaro pour Homme - they are, after all, still in production and demand.

I think it is because of our different tastes. I consider "vintage" very similar to "London" but better crafted with better smell. Honestly both of them are far inferior to Narciso, Prada and Code IMHO.

Sorry! But here by "CONTEMPORARY" I mean exactly this: recent releases. As far as I'm a young perfume lover contemporary for me means: releases after 2k. Perhaps for someone more mature it could be after 1990 or even after first world war and it may include fantastic timeless classics like "POUR UN HOMME"(1934)! But here its not the case.

Lots of perfume's styles are formally described as contemporary classic.

Varvatos Vintage is better than London, IMHO. Lacks a certain irritating sharpness.

Sephora fragrance description isn't a reasonable source. A classic is something which has stood the test of time as a top notch, top selling fragrance. Such as Old Spice.

A contemporary one is one which has recently been released - like in the last decade.

You can try and predict which contemporary fragrances will become classics, but there is no such thing as a contemporary classic.

Unless you're referring to classical? Instead of classic? But that doesn't seem to be considering the colognes up there.

Lets please not teach english on this frag.forum. I think a contemporary classic is something that is "today", yet has stood the test of time. I nominate 2 scent/frag. that we all know, some of whom like, yet most respect.

I went with Au Masculin mostly because it has such a unique feel. The others (that I've tried) are great frags and certainly meet your "strongly rooted in the perfumery tradition" criteria. However, Au Masculin seems to have found a new path and, for that reason, I find it to be more worthy in a "contemporary" competition.
