Default Not-so-new: Rock n' Rose by Valentino.

This new Valentino fragrance has been exclusive to Neiman Marcus since a few weeks but strangely Rock 'n Rose is only getting it's first official announcement in today's WWD.com, maybe because the worldwide roll out is starting in January.

    Name: Rock n' Rose
    Brand: Valentino (P&G)
Nose: Quest International (now merging with Givaudan)

Rock n' Rose is said to have been created for a younger women than the Valentino V customers, yet who is also aspiring to a luxurious lifestyle. Young and prestigious but also unexpected.

top: bergamot, black currant and a green note
heart: rose, muget, gardenia and orange blossom
base: sandalwood, heliotrope, vanilla, orris and musk.

What happened to "crunch green"? How can it be replaced by the substandard and descriptively anemic "a green note"? It was worth seeking out for that celery-sounding accord alone. Actually, it doesn't sound too bad overall, although the name is still giving me a headache, calling to mind not the intended "rock 'n' roll" but rather that dastardly brown-bagged libation, Rock and Rye.

...and I can just imagine the twenty-somethings in their corporate or private jets falling about over this incredibly LAME name - never mind the bottle and packaging.

But then -what do I know?

P.S. (Anyway, thanks as always to Cedric for keeping us ahead of the game.)

P.P.S. Was that you beat me out on a bottle of Ode yesterday on eBay?

I have been bidding on several Ode bottles in the past, but not recently. Oh! and I always lost...

For Info: my ebay ID is the same as on basenotes ^_^

Crunch green sounds good. The whole fragrance sounds like I might like it, pretty inoffensive notes. No amber.

That name is a deal killer. Lame-o-rama.

I also think that the name was very unfortunate.
I haven't had the chance to try it out yet.

Now I don't feel so bad!

(Thanks for the insight! Mine is MizTom on eBay.)

I'm looking for the frag - don't care that much about the bottle.

    Happy hunting!

The notes seem pleasant, and the bottle is cute. You know, the last thing about a fragrance that registers with me is the name. I don't focus on names anyway because I get distracted by other qualities. I always have to ask someone at least twice what their name is after they've already told me.

If I see it, I will test it. Crunch green as a descriptor does really get my attention. I would not NOT buy just because of the name-- if it's good. The name definately puts me off. It sounds like something a highschool kid would come up with, so perhaps it's a simple and cheap fragrance like a kid would make...blah, blah, blah goes my brain. It starts a downhill thought process for me as though it should be sold at K-mart in the preteen section.

If it's a delight as a juice, it can overcome it's name.

Or maybe something a marketing person who is trying to think like a high school kid (but doesn't really get it) would come up with? ;-)

    Ah...what do I know.

On the neimans website they describe this scent to be for a "lady who is a rose on the outside but a rocker on the inside". Can we get any lamer, or more 80's, than that?????
