    Default Alternative for LV Musk?

I was wanting to buy a musk fragrance and I really enjoyed Lorenzo Villoresi Musk but their are 2 reasons why I hesitate.

    1. The Price

    and

    2. It has a bottom oak moss note. That note doesn't go well with me.

So I'm looking for something that has the similar creamy, warm musk that LV has but with a little less woods and maybe some lighter florals. Any suggestions?

I think Santa Maria Novella's Muschio is one of the best musks around. Its less woody and i do not smell any florals in there. The only downside is, its not much cheaper than the LV.

Santa Maria Novella's Musk is quite similar to LV Musk, although the price is similarly restrictive. I prefer the LV more.

Consider this as a bump because I'm also intrigued by Musk but find it perhaps a little to feminine... or at least that's the most frequent comment I get when wearing it

Sadly, smooth musks are considered too feminine for men - probably because they drydown into soft 'clean' skin scents which is not considered 'manly' in the western world. Musks meant for men are usually made 'rougher', 'dirtier' and more distinctly animalic. These do seem to work better with masculine chemistry. Definitely try the Lentheric Just Musk (All that is good in YSL Kouros - minus the urinal cakes) I think this may be a musk that you can wear with pride. It is also great layered with other scents so you could mock up your own LV Musk dupe using a masculine / dark rose with it. Also check out Serge Lutens Musc Koublai Khan if you have not done so already.

A co-worker of mine who is also a fragrance enthusiast smelled wonderful one day, and was wearing what I thought was LV Musk. When I asked her what it was, she told me it was Royal Bain de Caron. To me there is a very strong similarity, and I believe the Caron can be had for less $$.

Although I love LV Musk, I did find it a bit too feminine for me.

Also, have you tried Helmut Lang? That might fit what you're looking for as well. You can find that on scentiments.com for under $40 for a 3oz. EDP.
