Default Fragrances similar to Hermessence Poivre Samarcande

I obtained a sample of this from the Hermes' boutique in Northern Virginia.

I've smelled many, many scents, but this one is my favorite.

To me, it smells like crushed fresh green peppercorns. It is a fleeting scent and I find that it seldom lasts more than a full day, but while it does, I enjoy it immensely.

Since the stuff is so expensive, do you know of any other fragrance alternatives that might be a close substitution?

I find Molecule 01 a bit like PS.

Perhaps not an alternative moneywise, but Angeliques Sous La Pluie share a few elements with Poivre Samarcande and lasts arguably longer. Ellena toned down the pepper a few degrees and added a couple of flowery elements. Beautiful, if you ask me.

If you want to add some sweet licorice and vetiver to the pot you could try sampling Kenzo Air . Might be something you'd find worthwhile.

i have a large 10ml sample of this and really enjoy it----the main problem i have with it is sillage and longetivity........it really is quite weak. i'd be interested to know if other scents smell similar with better sillage and longetivity as well.

There are frequently people selling the 15ml mini-bottles of Poivre Smarcande and the other Hermessences on eBay. They usually sell for $45-50. Or, for $135 you can buy 4x15ml (1.3oz) of either one Hermesscence or a mixed pack of 4 different fragrances (which is what I did).

It took me a while to 'get' PM - months, actually... but once I did I really started to dig it. It's really not designed to give off much sillage, but rather keep the wearer in a little personal cloud of pepper. The longevity is weird, perhaps because the of the Iso E Super, but sometimes you think it's gone and then all of a sudden you get whiffs of it hours after application. It's definitely some weird stuff, but it's got an incredibly realistic pepper note.

Molecule 01 or Iso E Super is overdosed in PS - good nose!

L'Artisan's Poivre Piquant is similar....and anything with a lot of Iso E Super, as mentioned (Declaration, Bigarade Concentree for a citrus twist).

I find the pepper overbearing which is strange for me as I enjoy some peppery frags like Gucci PH & Eau de L'Occitan. As mentioned, longevity sucks. Also, this stuff is exorbidantly overpriced for EdT- $180 for 100ml. You're basically paying for the names of Elena & Hermes.

Try Ormonde Man by Ormande Jayne - they have that same dry, pepper-y, austere quality to them. Although I like Poivre Samarcande better. It's the sleeper in the Hermessence line.

How do you figure? I would never think of PS as even being similar to Timbuktu.

Speaking of Timbuktu...Turin says that Nombril Immense is a clear copy of it...I don't get that either.

I must be missing something when I smell Timbuku!

I disagree. I smell NO incense in PS and Timbuktu has that strange sour vinegar accord running through it that's nowhere in PS either.
