I think that incense fragrances really are an example of the necessity of high quality. This may translate to niche &/or difficult to find (and expensive).
A wonderful frankincense scent is Ayala Moriel's Bois D'Hiver. She is a talented artisan perfumer and her scents are affordable. That would be a unique gift.
The Comme des Garcons INCENSE line is excellent, as many have said. I like Zagorsk, Ouzasate, and Kyoto.
Western incense is based on the resins of certain Mediterranean trees and shrubs. So my favorite incense scents are very dry, resinous, lean, contemplative... introspective.
    Bois D'Encens by Armani Prive
    Bois D'Orage by Frederic Malle
Frankincense and Myrrh by Czech & Speake (Lothantique Spice is a less expensive version of this)
    Spiritus by Miller & Bertaux
    Incensi by Lorenzo Villoresi
Incenso by I Profumi di Firenze (special order, not available in North America)

can somebody provide me with an extensive commentary on the following incense perfume and see if thery are indeed church incense scents that evoke contact with the divine:

    Shanaan M. Micallef
    Fahrenheit Absolute
    Creed Himalaya

somebody in the other thread was asking what is the best perfume that resembles the scent of earth-bound souls, spirits and unseen elements that can be worn during halloween and all souls day celebrations.

I agree with the Marquis. Ikon by Zirh has a fantastic incense drydown. And very, very affordable.
