Well, there's no similar thread in the Female Fragrance Discussion, so I'll go ahead with my two cents! I know that people either hate or love Angel and MKK, but I feel really strongly about them both, so they are included. It's not the full ten, but this is what I've got.

    No particular order...

    Angel by Thierry Mugler
    Muscs Koublai Khan by Lutens
    Timbuktu by L'Artisan

Musc Ravageur by Editions de Parfums/Frederic Malle

I think I would have to list at minimum 30 which are top of the cream. Selecting ten, just for men, is an impossible task:

    Singular within one House:

    Caron, Tabac Blond
    Creed, Bois du P
    Comme de Garcons, Avignon
    Dior, Eau Noir
    Divine, L'Homme Sage
    Montale, Attar
    Ricci, Signoricci
    Rabanne, Homme
    Sisley, Eau de Campagne
    Sta Maria Novella, Peau d'Espagne

That's ten completed (!) and I have not even started with any from houses offering at least two masterpieces
of equal value! You pick any fragrance of theirs, and they will also belong to my ten :
    L'Artisan Parfumeur; D'Orsay; Givenchy
    Guerlain; Hermes; Edition Malle
    Lutens; Rochas; Villoresi; YSL

You know, looking at all these lists makes me wonder: is it possible to tell from seeing one's top 10 list what other scents a person should or could like? What do the scents on such a list denote about the owner? Interesting psychology at the very least!

As a statistics freak, I decided to compose a "most voted list" for the fragrances mentioned so far.

Updated to include posts up to GenuineImitationLife's. I only counted those that were mentioned for real, not those that were in parentheses as in "(I'd really like to mention X as well)". And I probably made a mistake or few.

The winner with 13 mentions in this thread is Égoïste by Chanel.

    13: Égoïste - Chanel (1990)
    11: Vetiver - Guerlain (1961)
    9: Tabac Blond - Caron "!" (1919)
    9: Jicky - Guerlain (1889)
    9: Chergui - Serge Lutens (2001)
    9: Chanel Pour Monsieur - Chanel (1955)
    8: Musc Ravageur - Frédéric Malle (2000)
    9: L'Homme Sage - Divine (2006?)
    7: Bois du Portugal - Creed (1987)
    7: Millésime Impérial - Creed (1995)

7: Terre d'Hermes - Hermes "new kid on the block" (2006)
    7: Antaeus - Chanel (1981)
    6: Knize Ten - Knize (1924)
    6: Havana - Aramis (1965)
    6: Carnal Flower - Frédéric Malle (2005)
    6: Black Cashmere - Donna Karan (2002)
    6: Voleur de Roses - L'Artisan Parfumeur (1993)
6: Kouros - YSL "love it or hate it it is a masterpiece!" (1981)
    6: Fumerie Turque - Serge Lutens (2003)
    6: Bulgari Black - Bulgari (1998)

    5: L'Air Du Desert Marocain - Tauer (2005)
5: Jaïpur Homme - Boucheron (actually 2 of these were just "Jaïpur" but I assumed they meant Jaïpur Homme as we're in the male forum and very few female scents were otherwise mentioned) (1997)

    5: Dior Homme - Dior (2005)
    5: Angel - Thierry Mugler (1996)

    3: Avignon - Comme de Garcons (2002)
    3: Blue Amber - Montale (2005?)

3: Cuir de Russie - Chanel (or Creed, or Piver, or maybe Le Jardin Retrouvé? This was mentioned twice without the house)
    3: Eau Sauvage - Dior (1966)
    3: Noir Epices - Frédéric Malle (2000)
    3: Rose Poivrée - Different Company (2001)

This thread is quite odd. If you compare people's top 10 it often doesn't correlate very well with other threads in which people have declared that X is a frag that they couldn't be without, or that they would recommend to someone, etc. It also seems to have been heavily biased toward currently available frags — there aren't many discontinued frags listed here, as though everyone has interpreted the list-making in the same way.

If Egoiste really is the most agreed upon masterpiece why does it not feature more in the "recommed me a frag" threads?

Still, always interesting to see what people really love.

I believe that perfume lovers tend to be really passional about their hobbies - and, as much as their options are wide, their tastes can change almost daily, depending of their mood - and I include myself in that, even if my knowledge is not that wide - or deep.

Having said that, I would consider as masterpieces:

    M7
    Azzaro
    Minotaure
    Body Kouros
    Egoiste
    Guerlain Vetiver
    Van Cleef & Arpels
    Fahrenheit
