    Question Animalic scents...help, please!!!

There's under 2 weeks until the Animalic sniff-n-speak, and I want to get ready for it - in case I need to go out and buy a fragrance, which I can't really afford, but that's another story!!

Does anyone have any suggestions of good Animalic fragrances that I could try? I'd love to be able to sample as many as I can, as I've never really thought about this fragrance category before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!!

the lightest animalic fragrances would Cedre and Bois et Musc by Serge Lutens, the most sexual is Musc Ravageur by Frederic Malle and Muscs Koublaï Khän the most animalic one. If you can 't find them where you live they 're easy to find on ebay
Classic houses too have animalic perfumes, for instance Joy in parfum is an animalic floral

I believe anything with musk, leather or civet is classified as animalic, so Curious or In Control Curious from your wardrobe would qualify. If you wanted to try something new, Sarah Jessica Parker has a fair amount of musk (to me anyway) and it should be fairly easy to get a sample at a local department store.

i second the musc ravageur. it is very animalic. i find narcisco rodriguez musc can also be very animalic (in a new york city bungalow 8 kind of way, lol), and if you're looking for a scandalous, sexual sort of animalic, opium by yves saint laurent is good too. kingdom by alexander mcqueen has a VERY strong cumin note that gives it a sweaty armpit-y kind of smell that also reminds me of something animalic.

Is Paloma Picasso animalic? Has it got civit, castoreum, or both?
Something makes the perfume counter attendands wrinkle their noses and hold it at arm's length whenever I ask them to spray me. (I'm so naughty, I have my own bottle at home, I just ask so I can see them go, "Eewwww!")

No. However, it would not surprise me if people smell "sex" on me when I'm wearing it. I don't mind that at all. Sira has a "dirty" note that I quite like, which, I'm sure, is the musk. I know that many people describe castoreum as being "fecal" but I didn't detect it in Sira. Musk, civet, amber...yes...but not castoreum. The champaca note is very strong, and the cardamom note is persistent. I wonder if the "banana" note turns funny on some skins?

I've just applied it again, and, I really like it.

thanks for the suggestions, everyone. i don't know if I'm going to be able to get any samples of the ones you've all mentioned though When it comes to samples, Australia is pretty bad at handing them out and getting them as well...and I can't afford to spend any money online oh well, i'll figure something out.
    thanks again!!

I must admit that not all listed are usually recognised as 'animalic' - at least not as clear cut as say Serge Lutens Musc Koublai Khan, Chanel Cuir de Russie, or Balmain Jolie Madame. Also, whether listed or not, many perfumes have musk, civet, castoreum and / or ambergris in their formulations as they are great fixatives, helping the scent to last longer on the skin.

The ones I have listed all have a distinct animalic edge to them, either straight away or nestled within the base notes.

I think, that if you own a few off of the list and sniff them with the animalic notes in mind, you will notice a common element between them all.

Glad to be of some help!

Kingdom by Alexander McQueen is quite animalic. Like mlle_ines said it has a strong cumin note that gives it a sweaty kind of body smell. Definitely worth a try!

What happened to sniff-n-speak? Did they move it somewhere else? Gloomy, you got more answers than I could think of for sure. I don't know much about this group of fragrances, but was surprised to see I have some of them.

I don't think sniff n speak got moved - it just got pushed further down the discussion thread, I think.
i certainly appreciate all the fragrance suggestions...unfortunately, as I think I said before, I don't have any of them! but, that just means i'll have to do some investigating, and try and find some free samples
    thanks again, all!

    ditto on that for me.
maybe i will try bandit again. My first impression of it was ooohhh, classy, then, uh oh, naughty, and then, peuw, stinky and sour!

but hey, i am willing to give it another shot!
and I also have tabac blond and cuir russie and a drop of daim blond as backups.

Hey, gloomy_liv, you have got Aromatics Elixir in your wardrobe. That one have musk in it. And that is animalic! It is also a different frag, and well worthy to wear at the animalic day, at least in my oppinion.

rtamara41, I had the same reaction to Bandit! Though on my skin it also had a bit of sour fruit/spoiled wine after a little while.

I am thinking I will give Tabu a shot for this Sniff n' Speak... Got a great tester after reading the Tabu layering thread! Though Tabac Blond will be my back-up.

Anyone have any suggestions for a civet-dominated scent? Of the ones I have, Kingdom definitely seems the most civet-y to me....

As always, I am in awe of the wonderful art of Moondeva's list creating! Love that list Moondeva and thank you for it.

Two of the fragrances I am considering for Animalic Day are Narciso Rodriguez and Ambre Passion... but it will most likely be the later one

    gloomy liv,
Animalic doesn't necesserily mean it comes from animals. It can be botanical in origin but smell animalic. Some vegetale notes are very animalic in nature, such as agarwood (oudh), costus, tobacco, ambrette seed, spikenard and others.

Try these for an animalic kick:
    Muscs Kublai Khan
Oudh based scents (i.e.: the Montale Oudh Line, and also my own Razala, which has both oudh and ambergris)
No. 5 in parfum (strong civet base)
Agent Provocateur (vetiver, musk, saffron and aldehydes create a puslating animalic texture)
Miss Dior (the original has an intensely animalic base)
Ma Griffe (similarly to Miss Dior)
    Ambre Canelle (Creed)
Leather scents (for the castoreum base), such as: Tabac Blond, Cuir de Russie, Espionage...
Pan from Anya's Garden (the first perfume made with goat hair tincture - it's much better than you can even think!)

The list goes on and on, but these are just a few examples that popped into my head first...

thanks Ayala. I think I'm starting to understand what the nature of animalic fragrances is...ooh.. I have a sample of Agent Provocateur, so that's on my possibilities list!! I've now got 3 or 4, I think. So that should be enough to choose from.
