Question Please spare two minutes for a newbie seeking advice

Hello everyone, i hope you can help.

I am in the "searching for" stages and am desperately trying to find a signature scent and was hoping that you might have a few suggestions.

I am not sure what category of scent i like as i am totally confused at the moment but the description of what i am trying to smell like is

    warm
    creamy/powdery
    hug me
    sexy
    sensual
    deep
    sweet

I have recently broken the bank by buying some fragrances and hating them a few days later but the ones which i feel more likeable towards but are not perfect are

    Armani - Sensi
    Armani - She
Chanel - Coco (still testing this one!)
    Hugo Boss - Deep Red

I need something quite strongish as most of the above; bar the Coco which i am still trying to figure out fade on me in about 2 hours!

By the way I am 28 if that helps!!
Any suggestions you have would be grately received, many thanks
    PB

If you are looking for designer fragrances.. I would suggest:

Lolita Lempicka *beautiful bottle as well*
It's a nice vanillic/anise fragrance that is very gourmand

D&G By Woman -another sweet sexy choice.

Yves Rocher - Neonatura Coccon - sweet, thick, caramel/chocolate like fragrance with a deep musky nature.

Guerlain's L'instant - sweet but not cloying.. infact, if you want classy powdery classics.. Guerlain is a great option.

    Burberry Brit Woman: another favorite.

    Chanel Allure Sensuelle

    Molinard Habitana (dark and suave)

Bulgari Black - vanilla, smoke, rubber.. but not half as odd as it sounds.

Costume National- Scent Intense - a plum based, luscious inscence fragrance that is very dark, alluring, slightly playful and wonderful on men and women.

DK - Black Cashmere - very striking woodsy/incense blend... void of many florals. I wear this sometimes as well.

If you are looking for some higher end Niche Suggestions:

Serge Lutens: Chergui, Douce Amere, Datura Noir
Frederick Malle: Musc Ravageur (still the sexiest fragrance I've ever smelled.

Hope this helps, I am sure that others here will give you some great suggestions.

Most of these are available at department stores our boutiques.. so you should be able to sample many of them...

Let us know your findings.. which ones appealed to you and which ones didn't. It will give us an even better chance at suggesting fragrances that might appeal to you.

    Enjoy the search.

When I read your description of what you were looking for, one fragrance immediately came to mind...

    Wow! Welcome!

That sounds like you want to be wearing Safran Troublant by L'Artisan. It has a bit of spice but everything to listed as well along with a bit of rose. It's quite good and I think it would be perfect for what you want.

Hmmm i have heard of burberry brit gold, i will try and get a hold of that one too.

What about the chanel or Dior fragrances? i need long lasting as well, non designer ones i would also look at so longs as i can get hold of them, ugh! this is so frustrating...especially for my nose and colleagues at work who no longer recognise me by my scent!!

I like Sensi too but it's not as deep or sexy as the one which came to mind as I read your list. Try Crystal Noir by Versace, in the eau de parfum not the eau de toilette. It is not powdery but does hit the other points you have listed. Happy searching!!

How about D&G Sicily? This one is sexy but not hit-you-over-the-head sexy, earthy, and sensual. I think it has the "sweet" + "deep" + "hug me" + "sensual" components of your list. And it's easy to find.

Some excellent suggestion here. The first thing that came to my mind was Serge Lutens Chergui, which Nearfantastica has mentioned. You may also want to try Lorenzo Villoresi Musk, which is definitely powdery, sweet, creamy and sensual. Here are the notes, from the BN Directory:

    Top Notes
    Galbanum, Cardamom, Flowers ,

    Middle Notes
    Geranium, Rose ,

    Base Notes
    Musk, Amber, Sandalwood, Oakmoss

    Welcome aboard Princess!
Basing on the description of the characteristics that you are looking for, I think you might like some orientals, some gourmands and some quite creamy chypre too. My suggestions are:

    TM Angel
    Cartier Le baisier du dragon
    Chanel Allure Sensuelle
    Narciso Rodriguez edt
    Bulgari Omnia
    V&R Flowerbomb
    Shiseido Feminité di Bois
    Hermes Hiris
    Fendi Theorema
    Issey Miyake Le feu d'Issey

just to give you some designer suggestions...
and just one more niche: Musc Ravageur

    More suggestions:
You seem to like Armani - have you tried the new Code for women?
I think it's very sexy and warm.
Also try Cristobal (Balenciaga) - honeyed figs, vanilla and just gorgeous!
Roma (Laura Biagiotti)- unusual, sophisticated Italian perfume (bergamot, mint, blackcurrant leaves, amber, vanilla, balsam etc) that I personally can't get enough of.
As for Dior - do try Diorella or Dune.
Chanel Chance and Allure are worth a sniff .
    Happy hunting.

Any designer scent is the "signature scent" of hundreds of OTHER persons also!!

For something TRULY "yours" - saunter over to Ayala Moriel's site - www.ayalamoriel.com - (she is also a BaseNotes member!) and let her create one that is unique to you alone. Her stuff is gorgeous.

Going out on a limb here and posting a frag that I only just sampled at Sephora's, but which left an impression of sweet, creamy richness. It's Amarige by Givenchy. Quoting from Vintage Vogue's review here on Bnotes:

"Amarige is a raging torrent of fruits and flowers enveloped in a voluptuous, musky base...."

This popped into my head when reading your inquiry. May post others if they come to me.
"Like a lobster with a pearl in its claw, the beet held the jasmine firmly without crushing or obscuring it. Beet lifted jasmine, the way a bullnecked partner lifts a ballerina, and the pair came on stage on citron's fluty cue. As if jasmine were a collection of beautiful paintings, beet hung it in the galleries of the nose, insured it against fire or theft, threw a party to celebrate it. Citron mailed the invitations." What I am loving right now: Shalimar vintage extrait, Chanel Bois des Iles, Chanel no. 22, Le Labo Iris 39, Guerlain Iris Ganache

For designer scents that can be found at department stores, I would suggest:
    1. Armani - Code for women
    2. Jean Paul Gaultier - Gaultier 2
    3. Yves Saint Laurent - Cinema

For a more exclusive scent that can only be found at select stores such as Neiman Marcus, Barneys, or Saks Fifth, I would suggest:
    1. Bond No. 9 - New Haarlem
    2. Serge Lutens - Douce Amere
    3. L'artisan - Bois Farine

    Welcome to Basenotes

One scent immediately came to mind for me and that is the original white shoulders by Evyan (do NOT buy the new version put out by parfums international.) This scent was very kindly pointed out to me by FuFuLarue, and here I am over a year later trying to do the same. Your best bet is to buy off ebay although it always comes with its uncertainties. I think if you buy a bottle that clearly says "Evyan" and not "parfums international" you are in luck. the cologne is fine but the parfum is heavenly. it smells very soft and sweet and maternal. but not too sweet. just nice. comforting. i love this scent.

example of one on ebay that looks like the original: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-4-oz-WHI...QQcmdZViewItem

If you go to EDITIONS DE PARFUMS.COM which is Frederic Malle's website and fill out the questionairre they will send you an email with a suggestion as to the best scent of their line that fit your needs. They will also ask for your address and if you aren't near a store that sells their line they will send you a free sample of their suggested scent.

Calvin Klein's Euphoria comes to mind. Obviously, you must try it on your own skin first, but a friend of mine wears it and it smells incredible on her - just like your above descriptors.

    Welcome princessblack!

I have to warn you now that the search for the one perfect signature scent is never ending, unrealistic and not as much fun as searching for the perfect wardrobe of perfect scents! Also you need to bear in mind that the perfume that is perfect in freezing winter weather is unlikely to be as wonderful in the sweltering summer heat.

I must also second the suggestion of Chergui, which is wonderful (but expensive).

Tom Ford's Black Orchid also came to mind with some of your adjectives, as did Prada, CK Euphoria, and other fragrances with patchouli basenotes. Also possibly Sira des Indes (Patou). For myself, I really enjoy Keiko Mecheri's Loukhoum, which is warm, sweet, hug me, and sensual to me--some people, however, really dislike it because it turns TOO powdery on some.

I'm more familiar with the older Diors, but Dior Addict also comes to mind. As for the Chanels, you've mentioned that you're trying out Coco--someone else has mentioned Allure Sensuelle. I personally think that no. 5 *might* fit for you, but as someone that can't wear no. 5 to save her life, I'm going to suggest the no. 5 Elixir Sensuelle.

    I hope this helps!
