    Default What is that smell?

Could someone let me know what is that chemical cheapy (can't think of another word for it) smell you get in the dry down with some fragrances. I hate it. It just ruins the fragrance for me. I've found it in Chanel's Allure and Prada the original. I notice too that they don't wash away easily either. Many thanks.

Could be aldehydes...many people find that they smell too "chemical".

Can you think of any other fragrances that have this effect on you?

You know I can't. Allure is my best example. But I have smelled it on others. The smell usually arrives once the top notes and heart have worn off. Some men's spray deoderants have it too. I can usually detect the smell even before I've applied it. Oh darn I wish I knew what it was.

I don't know anything about aldehydes although I keep hearing others refer to it. If I'm not mistaken the effect they have on me is to irritate my nose at which point I sneeze. I have this problem with Serge Lutens Un Lys. But I like this scent and it doesn't have that yucky chemical smell I'm talking about.
