Default guerlain vetiver and d D&G PH

I have both but was wondering members opinions on their similarities. I'm a newbie with this stuff but to me it seems like they have a lot of similarities. Is this true?

No, they are really nothing alike not even close.

They both contain a tobacco note - but have no similarity in my opinion

I agree with the 'tobacco' similarities - but besides that, WAY different scents IMO.

Will along with the crowd on this one. They do share citrus and tobacco notes, but how they are blended separates them from each other.

Yes, I think the problem here is that even though there are notes in common particularly the tobacco note blending is everything in fragrances. In fragrance the gestalt is entirely dominant in the way the fragrance presents itself to your senses, and the component notes are only discernible to the experienced nose. One could say that the whole is not just greater than the sum of the parts, but that the whole renders the parts invisible.

I own D&G and I have a small sample of Guerlain Vetiver and I have to say that I noticed NO similiarities between the two. As I've said before, the Vetiver smells to me like Spot Shot (i.e., not like cologne at all) and the D & G smells fantastic.

No, I can see where you're coming from. I mean, I thought all scents smelled pretty similar when I started out. Keep wearing those two for a little longer and you'll mos def notice the stark contrast between the two.

Yes I now realize that just because two scents contain similar properties they can smell completely different.
