Default What to wear to parties?

Now, this question has come up a few times, but only with people that had a lmited wardrobe and for your more dignified dinner party kind of events. I'd like some suggestion on what to wear to trendy yet a bit trashy college house parties and the such. I have an unlimited budget and am definetely not opposed to niche.

    The requirements:
    1. Does well in the heat. It's usually pretty crowded and hot with people dancing and such.
    2. Is attractive to girls 18-25.
    3. Has decent sillage so that others nearby can smell it.
    4. Isn't too formal. While I wear a little than shorts and a t shirt, I don't always wear a suit to parties like this.
    5. Is not MI... I have issues with that...

    Terre d'Hermes
    Green Irish Tweed
    Neroli Sauvage
    Gucci pour Homme
    Geir

Those are 5 from me that I would suggest.

Any suggestions out of my wardrobe? I have in fact something to attend to tonight.

    I'm thinking either:
    Rive Gauche
    Magnetism
    By Man
    Musc Ravageur
    Envy
    Rochas Man
    or Kouros Fraicheur

I'd second Terre D'Hermes, but a light application, because it can smell a little metallic if it's overdone. Let it dry down a bit before going to the party, too. Then you have an A+ scent. There's no musk or other heavy notes in it, so it's hard to find obnoxious even in the heat.

Main question: are you cute? If you are, it really doesn't matter what you wear, as long as you take a shower. If you're not so cute, it's all a crap shoot. How high are your standards, and so on.

Are you hitting on me on me Ruggles?

I just want to smell damn sexy, and not like some ADG wearing frat boy (or in my old roommate's case, Le Male, ugh)

When going to parties, a person can get a little more wild and wear more oddball stuff than they would wear to a bar. One time I crashed a party of hot punk girls in fishnets by wearing a nice dose of Comme des Garçons Skai. I encountered them in the hallway of my building. Actually they were bitches to me at first, but then they walked past me in the other direction, they got a whiff and turned to ask me what the hell I was wearing that smelled so good. After that, they took me to their party!

Get yourself some Skai. It's an attention getter, and something I'd probably ONLY wear at parties.

Envy (can't go wrong, although longevity is only average on me)
    Havana
Oscar de la Renta (light, yet different, with superb longevity and sillage)
    Magnetism
Joop original (yes, really . . . will definitely be noticed, 99% in a good way)

I am so weak. Right now I was thinking "I must get Skai". Haha. Your stories are the best! You should start working with fragrance advertisement. I wonder how many more bottles of Rive Gauche pour Homme YSL sold just thanks to your bite story... Do you get a commision from them?

I always feel so chocolately sweet when I wear Rochas Man. It's a bit awkward, especially in the summer and I've never gotten any comments about it.

I'm tempted to get Skai too after Indie_Guy's story!

Rochas Man should be re-named Willie Wonka Man. Wear the Musc Ravageur! It sends out a nice, friendly vibe. And, no, I was not "hitting" on you.

Here's a full blown "niche" list:

    Serge Lutens Chergui
    Serge Lutens Arabie
    Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur
    Creed Original Santal
    Creed Virgin Island Water
    Bond no. 9 Chinatown
    Bond no. 9 HOT Always
    Geo F. Trumper Sandalwood Cologne

Most of these have a sweet/spicy loud character (except for maybe VIW). I have worn all of the above at many parties, and have been complimented by other party goers and asked about my "cologne".

Oh god... Wear Musc Ravageur. That stuff is unbelievably sexy. You already have it in your wardrobe, and I'm sure that girls will be complimenting your fragrance left and right.

From your collection, Rochas or Magnetism for sure. I haven't tried By but I hear it's animalistic and super sex appeal, so why the hell not

Good choice. This is a really nice niche scent and you won't have to worry about anyone else wearing it.

Rochas Man, I love that one! I NEVER wear citrus/aquatic/blah fragrances to party, I love to stand out.

But I only tend to use Rochas Man with this one person I like, they go crazy for it.

Cool Re: What to wear to parties?

Well, the advantage of Rochas Man is that so many women are either:

    1.On a diet
2.About to go on a diet
    3. Ready to get back on a diet
    4. Desperately want to get off their dumb diets

So you can be temptation incarnate,

The disadvantage is that you'll wear a chocolate gourmand as you dance and may feel like a melting Hershey bar.

    Go with your Himalaya.

If you want to buy something new then . . .

---Aw hell, just look at the 5 stars in my wardrobe but skip Dunhill '34 and Vintage Tab, not for dancing with the 18-25 babes, imho.

BtW, I also "have issues" with MI , as posted in my reviews, and even bigger ones with M7, Musc Ravageur and ( though mercifully no one's mentioned this one yet) Platinum Egoiste.

    Rock On!

    Cheers,

    Mario

As I've said in so many threads like this one, I've had unparalleled success with Magnetism. Every time. Chicks dig it, man.

From your collection I'd go with the YSL Rive Gauche; sexy without seeming to try too hard, which, by its very nature, is exponentially sexy.
The Malle is good stuff, although I think it is a bit sweet... and with dancing and hot interior temps could be off-putting. Quite contrary to your intended groove.
I agree with all who put forth Terre d'Hermes. If you want to go more niche I have been having A LOT of luck lately with Creed's Orange Spice.
