Thanks for the heads up - will miss you guys, but will look forward to the site being back, bigger and better than ever on July 1
Thread: How the site rebounds
Just a day or two after hazy server problems, I note that SOTD post numbers climb back to their pre-problem levels.
It's freaky and it's easy to lose interest in a site when we never know if it's going to be up, so it makes sense that members might be lost or fade away as an unexpected sort of "summertime" hits Basenotes. However, I read the posts and see who's here and I see all the longstanding names and reputations of the collectors and the thoughtful who know how to think with their noses too. Also the many very thoughtful new members, with which we're shockingly blessed right now. It is great to see this rebound happen so quickly. In honesty I didn't expect it.
I want to remind everyone that Grant needs to take the community part of the site down for ten days--beginning tomorrow, 20 June. The site will be back up on 1 July, and we'll rebound again without problem or challenge. It'll be an early summer vacation for us all, and plenty of opportunity to test a new scent and prepare review threads (or any olfactory reflections) for when the site comes up again on firmer cyber ground.
Thanks to all of you.
That girl, that bottle, that mattress and me.
Thanks for the info, Chris.
I will be back.
I'll be back with 'bells on' - where the hell else am I gonna go?!
Great site, great membership, great subject matter...what's not to like??
Thanks Chris, take care...
P.S. - a big thanks to all of the Basenotes staff for all of their efforts!!
Here's Grant's original post about the matter:
Thank you all for your kind words about this, but poor Grant is the only one who's going to have beads of sweat on his forehead because of the server problems. If I could help him out from where I am, and make the down time only five days, I sure would. But his labor is my vacation! Hehehe.
Actually I think I might use the time to write another XtremeScents column.
All the same, I'll miss everyone too.
I'm taking a scent-newbie friend for a day of fragrance shopping soon, so I hope to make a thread about the adventure of sniffing a bunch of things with a new nose and seeing what works and what doesn't. Ten days will provide plenty of time for reflection, won't it?
I'll be happy to see you all soon!
That girl, that bottle, that mattress and me.
Thanks for the heads-up. When the site returns on the first, I will do so also, as a supporter.
You are not your perfume.
Appreciate it Chris

Thanks for the heads up. See eveyone on July 1. Gonna get to know some of my frags a little better with the time off, and then trim the collection down a little when we come back up.

I will miss Basenotes for ten days, even though I can spend some of the time looking up fragrances in the Directory.
I will miss you guys and the Community the most, though!

Thanks for the info Chris.
I know that I haven't been posting very much of late, but I have been lurking.
Gonna miss you guys....and gals!
Sorry to hear about it, but I guess it's for the better. I'm sure we'll all be a little more bored in the next 10 days... we'll have to fall back to sampling & stuff like that!

Thanks again for the info DustB....I will be looking forward to July 1st and will miss all while we are on vacation.
Maybe if I don't get to read the forums I won't accidentally 'discover' some new scent or other that I absolutely have to have.
I wonder if I can get through the next 10 days without a new purchase...
Can get (mostly mass market) miniatures on the cheap, inquire within. Will ship worldwide at cost.
Oh, this is like going to summer camp for 3 weeks and not having my tv. I think I'm going to cry..............nah, I'll just go on a fragrance binge buying spree!
God bless Grant, basenoters, and basenotes
Bye for a little while to all!

Yes, thank you for the heads up. Will be some lonely times over those 10 days.
Ah, perfect. July 1st is the day I get back from vacation too, I'll see you guys around.
Farewell, all! I'll miss Basenotes too, but I guess this is sort of a blessing in disguise: I'll devote more time to job hunting. And mountain biking And scent shopping
Good luck and thanks to Grant!

Thanks for the information and for all your efforts, Chris.
I'll greatly miss everyone for 10 days. Happy First Week of Summer to all!

Thank you for your information Chris...
<with a hand shake>
See you on the other side...
Hey - it's the 20th - Why is the site still up?

I am glad that Grant didnt pull a David Chase on us
Well it's the 20th and the community is still here and the 2, 21 year old, blond girls from Amsterdam are not, so things are going about the same. That being said if I'm not here on the first I'll probably be in Amsterdam with them. Something about brownies which they couldn't bring to the States.
good luck with the computer situations, folks. And happy summer to all....
