I was staying in London this weekend and I came across the most unlikely shop. Sharif Pound Plus on Uxbridge Road looked like just a discount hardware store, but they had a fantastic selection of Arabian perfume oils, for what seem to be very good prices. There’s a range from cheap to expensive, and I tried some wonderful dark sticky pure oudhs which smelt very different to things I am used to, and also a lovely sandalwood perfume the name of which I forget. This was £45- a really good price for a BIG heavy bottle, but I didn’t want to carry it around all day so I ended up buying Maisam by Rasasi, which came in a beautiful jewelled bottle, 20ml for £20. I don’t suppose this is a super-posh perfume, but I’m pretty happy with it, especially for the price. When first applied it has a sharp, heavy amber tang along with the musk. Then it dries down a bit and becomes powdery and rather vanilla-sweet (I don’t like this stage as much). Then it develops over hours and becomes a woody, damp musk. Even the next day you catch whiffs of a patchouli-like tone as it develops further. So I am very pleased with my trip. I recommend any Londoners give Sharif Pound Plus a go!
