lets say that a bottle is dropped. who eats the cost? I asked this before and got no answer. Who insures a business like this. I don't have the deep pocets needed to do it, and they probably aren't able to afford Lloyds of London without quadrupling their prices.

Great selection - WAY too pricey for me. There are a lot of free samples available if you have the time to search for them. Me, I've got more time than money

Maybe this is a bit *off topic*, but one thing that puzzles me a bit; is it that one of the ladies at TPC (??) still seems to offer items here on BN under *Items for sale*?
As an example, I just saw MH Citron Citron 120 ml body lotion, new, sold here for USD 21, while the same item goes for USD 29.99 at TPC.

Maybe it is not the same lady, maybe it is totally irrelevant, but still - I am curious!

I am not sure if it is as I haven't read the thread here on Basenotes, but if it is, then HOORAY for us! We get a discount!

I have no idea what their overhead is. I have a pretty steady decanting business myself, but as I don't know what they're spending, I am in no place to question their pricing. When I'm looking for something, I check multiple sources and if I think it's too expensive, I won't shop there. If it's cheap enough, I will.

Heck, I'm sure I could (and maybe should) charge more for my decants, but I'm happy with how it's set up and I don't get any complaints, so that's all that matters I guess.

    It's that simple.

OK, I have hesitated to jump into several other threads on this, but I will post this once, here, and be done with it:

First of all, they really do have overhead -- not just in terms of the actual perfume you are buying from them and the time it takes to decant/source supplies/package etc. etc. but in the risk they are taking by stocking up on so many rare, non-U.S., hard-to-find, limited edition etc. scents.

I find that they are pretty regularly charging twice per ml unit. It is expensive compared to individuals looking to defray the costs of their collecting passion by selling off some extra juice, sure, and they can't compete with bigger operations that offer samples like beautyhabit et al (not to mention freebies from sephora and nordstrom) but I feel like when I pay that cost I am paying for the amazing privilege of knowing that if I really, really, want to try a smidge of that zillion dollar frag only available in Japan then they are going to have it. They have to buy in advance and then hope they will recoup their loss -- charging consistently across the board in order to do so seems like a pretty fair model to me.

I agree, I use them to buy rare and hard to find decants, not whole bottles. Where else am i going to find a decant of Feuille Verte? Yeah it may be expensive, but they found a market for it, and I can't hate them for that.

Is the Perfumed Court the only place to find the non-export Serge Lutens? I will gladly pay the $6 per sample!

Well, call me a fool then! LOL I like being able to find samples and they have all I have looked for. I have literally spend hours trying to hunt down samples I want. TPC is one stop shopping for me. I'd rather pay 60.00 for a multitude of samples than buy a mistake at full price.

To each their own, I guess.

I think this 'discussion' can be best balanced out in this way:

Perfumed Court is a great source for getting decants of rare and hard-to-find fragrances but, for anything else, there are cheaper (and just as good, if not better) alternatives (e.g. official samples, other Basenotes decanters, bargain internet bottle purchases, etc.).

Wink Praise for The Perfumed Court - sample heaven

For a number of months I've been doing extensive internet searches for samples, one here, two there. I dreaded launching my vetiver search, but stumbled on The Perfumed Court which seems to have thousands of scents available in sampler vials.

I researched all of the "Vetiver" and "Vetyver" scent reviews on Basenotes and took notes from your gracious member response to my thread in search of the perfect vetiver a month ago. I compiled a list of 20 vetiver scents I wanted to sample. Of those I have found 13 on this site for a mere $3 per vial.

I wanted to make you all aware of this as it can be quite expensive to buy full bottles of scent by relying solely on the opinions and reactions of others (it's such an individual decision). This is one spot where one can do one's shopping leisurely, secure a large number of samples and take one's time deciding.

    I highly recommend it.

Disclaimer: I hope this is not a no-no, praising a site or source of scent. I have no affiliation with the site and am not promoting it with any vested interest.

Perhap's a better topic for the off topic section, but your here now so i will throw my two cent's worth in. I also choose to spend my money with these people, and will continue to do so in the future. The service is great, I never second guess what I'm getting.Like most thing's in life you ger what you pay for. I lean more and more toward decant's, as I have so many fragrance's there is no way I will ever use them up. In fact if a friend or family member ever comment's on what I'm wearing I will give them a 8 or10ML decant of that frag. Back to the subject, they have earned my business in the past, and at the current level of service I will order from them in the future!

    Outrageous prices.
But, if someone is willing to pay, they are willing to keep them where they are; exorbitantly high.

The way I see it, purchasing samples from them has already saved me a few hundred bucks from blind buys I was considering. I think the ladies of Perfumed Court provide a great service, and obviously there's a market for it or they'd be out of business. More power to them, says I.

I don't buy their full-price decants, but they've had some really nice specials and sales, especially on larger decants. I've actually saved a fair bit of $ that way, buying an 8ml decant at their sales price rather than a bigger bottle I'd never use up.

The only way that I can get a larger diversity of fumes to try is to be in the business myself. If I could stick with one scent day after day my name would not be in their database.

But I want to smell everything mua haha

I just purchased some atomizers and samples (Bond No. 9 Wall Street and a Creed "3-pack") from them today ... I will report back as to how it goes. The website is fantastic, but the decant prices seem to be about twice as expensive as others.

I have purchased from the Perfumed Court - a sample of Fath Iris Gris and a full bottle of DKNY Fuel- and was very happy with the transactions. Sure I paid a price for the Iris Gris (I missed that darn full bottle on eBay this fall, the one that brought $700+) but I considered it a fair price. I wish them continued success.

The ladies of the Perfumed Court (along with a prominent BNer) are the reason I have sampled as many scents as I have. I bought from them all individually before BN and ebay outlawed decanting, and before they joined to form the Perfumed Court. I've had nothing but positive experiences with all of them individually (though I have not yet purchased from them through the Perfumed Court website). The prices seemed a little high at first, but when you consider that they are doing something that pretty much no one else anywhere else does, the prices seem more reasonable. Remember, they are not making money on full bottle purchases the way Lucky Scent, Aedes, etc. are. So, it's not like they recoup the cost of the samples they sell. And they carry an unreal selection of rare and discontinued frags, many of which no store sells samples. I'm happy they're doing what they do.

I agree with Robyogi, these ladies are providing a service to their customers, they are also running a business. There are costs associated with business that a lot of people don't see.

Good to see you posting again Roby . Hope you are doing well.

I have no knowledge about how much cost for TPC running their business but I think it is not a site built to share love of perfume but just make money when I look their prices.

Hi Vijay! Glad to hear from you. I hope all is well with you too.

Not only are there costs associated with running a business (just like any business), but they are also buying frags at market rates and decanting them. It's not like they're buying 1000 bottles of something at wholesale prices and then selling them at a markup. They can sell decants at a price based on what they paid for the bottle, which is often the market's going rate for a bottle (read: probably often the ebay price). And I'm not sure that anyone gets into any business purely to "share the love" of anything.

Anyway, enough said on this topic. If folks don't like the prices, I guess they can buy their sample or decant of that Arabian oud or that discontinued vintage frag or that unobtainium niche scent somewhere else.
