Something deep and masculine to cut out the "suntan oil" sweetness, I should think. I really want to love Kiehl's, but that synthetic musk note is awfully, awfully sweet, and lacks the almost civet-like, animalic "oomph" of real musk. While I like the note in spite of itself, it is cloyingly sweet. Perhaps Antaeus, or the (old formulation of) Van Cleef & Arpels, or the (old formulation of) Tsar? Bois d'Ombrie comes to mind, too, as do Monsieur Musk and (believe it or not!) Aramis and Devin. In short, something dry and "masculine" to cut the diabetic-coma inducing "sweet suntan oil" smell of Kiehl's. I mean, there's a lot of potential here, but too sweet is just too sweet.

    Latrelle: "What?"
Peggy: "Brother Boy has tried to kill himself. He jumped out of his bedroom window."
Latrelle: "Isn't he only on the second floor?"
Peggy: "Yes, but he hit his head on a lawn gnome."

If you can wear them, a potent white flower fragrance (some men, find white flower fragrances too...feminine - not me). I'm thinking: Neroli by L'Occitane or Fleur de Male by Jean Paul Gaultier or Fahrenheit 32 by Dior.

The deep musky base with the sharp floral top notes = a nice combo, in my opinion.

What about adding some MKK... to even it out - both ways?

mikeperez, it seems like one can use the white flowers here too.

I have layered it once or twice with Aramis in the past. Interesting blend and it does cut the cloying sweetness of the Kiehls down to size. I don't know why I haven't done it since..can't remember exactly if I really liked it or it was just so-so. May take another test

I haven't personally tried it, but I remember someone posting about layering Kiehls and Kouros - they called it a "real sex bomb"

Kiehl's Musk along with Jacomo de Jacomo smelled a good mix to my nose. Somewhat reminiscent of Guerlain Heritage

I agree with Pelle ... its such a clean scent that it needs a bit of dirtying up! But then again, I always think it better to smell dirty and than clean.

    What about Avignon?

    Insert priest joke here.

Behemoth cut a slice of pineapple, salted it, peppered it, ate it, and then tossed off a second glass of alcohol so dashingly that everyone applauded.

Try it with a scent which either have a healthy dose of cumin or coriander/cilantro.
For the latter try Jivago 24K. Very nice.

    +1

Within minutes of layering YSL Live Jazz (mucho coriander topnotes with dry citrus drydown) over a base of Kiehls musk oil (not EDT) for the first time, a woman asked about my scent and told me my wife "better keep a leash" on me.

PS I also tried Kiehls musk oil with Farenheit. It worked well. My wife said I smelled very "clean."

Seems there are more than two men wearing white flowers here... Actually I was thinking of a good indolic magnolia with its even more piercing edge than neroli: the result from one side would cut out the sweetness and from another would enhance the animalic side.
Otherwise I'd say grapefruit, another sharp and fierce non-floral note.

Nasomatto's Duro would probably work pretty well when layered with Kiehl's. It's a dry, masculine scent that could use a little sweetening.

i dont get the "super sweetness" note in kiehl's so i try to layer it with something floral or dominant sweet notes.....i have tried it with the female version of Eclat Lanvin D'arpege....soft but persistent floral musk played well Kiehl's....

i'll try rochas, body kouros Scent Intense and dior homme layering as well.

Thanks for compiling the list, Apis!

    For me, it's:

Kiehls Original Musk #1 + just about everything I own
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost

I'm not really a believer in layering, in theory it sounds ok but in my experience it can be messy. That said, I can't help but think that Kiehls + Eau d'Hermès would be a great combo.
