    Default SotD Monday 3 September

It seems this is going to be a day of not so quiet frustration.Somehow my frustrations are never very quiet

I wonder if Encens et Lavande will keep me out of prison

Maybe this is a great day to throw the computers and the phones into the lake and visit the most wonderful falcon in the world

Coconut reporting from Shanghai: touched down at 4:30pm and stuck in the traffic forever. The weather isn't terrific, it is pouring. I wore Virgin Island Water this morning, and I tested Sisley Eau du Soir at the airport duty free. It has a sharp opening, almost like nail polish. It is a classic chypre but my colleague didn't like it, he gave me an evil look and said: "ewe... What is that smell?"

A serene and peaceful LABOR DAY to all those who care!!!

At the urging of a gentleman BNer who had graciously sent me a very generous sample (YOU know who you are KBE!!) I am luxuriating in Piguet's classic - Bandit. EDP.

This bad boy (girl?) is a stunner from the first galbanum laced greeniness through leather and ciggy smoke and lots of lush flowers. No note stands out - this is one of those old-fashioned nearly seamless scents beloved by those of us of a certain age who still like "perfume". Complex - lush - absolutely gorgeous.

I think I wore this "back in the day" - it's all "21" and El Morocco and Latin Quarter and late nights at Roseland.

    You had to be there.

Last day of vacation for me (Labor Day here in the US), and I am doing a sandalwood compare and contrast:

On the left: Mazzolari, from a sample. Notes courtesy of Luckyscent are sandalwood, vetiver, spices and subtle citrus and green notes.

On the right (thanks, Twolf!), sampling SL Santal Blanc.

Both are intriguing. I'm getting a bit of the odd, chemical smell that others have described in the Santal Blanc, but am glimpsing the possibility of real beauty behind it. Am finding the Mazzolari to be REALLY fun - dark, super-woody, with the citrus and green notes popping up at very odd moments... definitely worth more exploration!

Sa Majeste la Rose by Serge Lutens

Taolady - I lovelovelove Bandit. I am using up my little sample like liquid gold.
Comdiva - Santal Blanc...somehow I am still trying to figure out what SB is trying to say...maybe its the fenugreek note, but its so abstract.

So much for Labor Day, cause I'm about to start a 16 hour shift. Sick folks don't take holidays. I'm not complaining though, cause it's shift diff/holiday/bonus pay today. Woohoo! I may get another bottle of Bond No. 9. I'm gonna soak in the tub and scrub the prior week away and slather on Coney Island for yet another day. Let's see if it can pass the 16hr test........

I had to shower off the AM application of Acier Aluminium after struggling with replacing a window A/C unit in the direct summer sun.

One good scent led to another and I ended up with a separated layering of a few dots of L'Artisan Tea For Two + two spritzes of Cofinluxe Cafe-Cafe Men and a slash of Creed Bois du Portugal on the back of my neck.

Rounding out the day in a sample of the beautiful Caron Rose from fellow rose-aholic Tinks ....a real rose bouquet. Opens bright, quickly deepens and comes to rest on the creamy Caron undernote. Sure hope it lasts - it's like lying on a bed of rose petals.
