Default Ladies... a question on skin care..

I am having a bit of a problem. I do not have bad skin.. It is actually good for a teenager but of course I get the occasional volcano zit from hell. Ya'll know what I mean... the kind you feel coming, and when it finally appears and you touch it, it feels like a gunshot wound? yeah. I also sometimes get small black heads. Along with the fact I have dry skin. Not deathly dry like a lizard but I don't have hardly any oils on my skin. But I know my skin needs something. Can you refer some mositerizers or some kind of exfoliating cream? I'm terribly ignorant to skin care because for my age I have excellent skin lol... But now I realize it could be better.

Paula's Choice is supposed to be excellent - she has exfoliating lotions, non comedogenic moisturisers, and lots of other stuff, along with lots of articles about skin care and make up and guides to help you choose the right products, from other brands as well as her own. It might be a good place to start

That's a good suggestion from Blue. I usually shop for skin care at the health food store and put a post about a good face wash and toner that helps clear up blackheads and zits on the "Face Wash?" thread. I would recommend it for teenagers because of the natural ingredients. You might also want to add a gentle scrub to your routine. If you have dry skin, you should use a moisturizer, I would suggest the matching one from Avalon, if you like lavender, or something else with natural ingredients.

Go look at the website aubrey-organics.com, they have some trial size kits and many health food stores sell the line. You can pick according to your skin type and they are inexpensive, but good quality.

As I said on some other thread I like Clinique products for face stuff.

I also use Clinique. I'm older (a lot older!) but have had problem skin most of my life. Since switching to Clinique I get no more than the odd PMS spot. My skin looks pretty good.

Another vote for Clinique's line. I use their 3-step program, & use the bar soap for acne prone skin instead of the face wash as the first step.

    OK.

You spot(s) could actually be your hormones.
Because your skin is dry don't over strip it. Sorry Clinique especially the lotion might as well use paint stripper on your skin.

    Question?

Is your skin actually dry or is it dehydrated?
    These are two different things.
You could have dehydrated your skin with over use of harsh products to beat the black heads etc.

Keep your routine simple. Are you able to order from HSN?
If so try Liz Earle. Simple mainly nature range which thousands swear by.

If you live in the US, I might also suggest the acne products from Serious Skin Care on HSN called "Continuously Clear." Jennifer is Sylvester Stallone's wife and she used to suffer from acne before she tried that line. Now she promotes it. You can read reviews from customers on their website for any of their products.

Oh, I forgot to say. Avene has a good cream too. Look them up.

With my s. dermatitis, I have had to be particularly careful with soaps/lotion; my face is so sensitive. With that, I use Clinique men's facial soap and toner. Normally, alcoholic toners would be death but with Kiehl's facial lotion, I'm able to get away with it. I've tried every combination possible and this is optimal for me. As a result, my skin is nearly flawless as a side benefit.

I also discovered that sulfates can be brutal if your skin is sensitive; try REN skincare which is sulfate and paraben free and it will do you wonders, outside of smelling and looking great. I get it at Barney's but I believe they are expanding. Try REN's moroccan rose shower gel with a Montale aoud afterward...sublime.

I used to get those volcanic pains as a teenager too. Like war wounds without the justification of a good story.

After I turned 18 or so they stopped appearing altogether, but I also got intervention from my dermatologist.
