    Default Frederic Malle's Favorites

This is from Allure magazine August 2007 issue, page 118.

"As you like it" by Frederic Malle.

His favorite fragrances (from "highly trained perfumers"):

    Sophia Grojsmans' CK Eternity
    Bourdon's Davidoff Cool Water
Dominique Ropion's Une Fleur de Cassie
    Maurice Roucel's Guerlain L'instant

He then says that the classics were more daring..some of his favorite classics:

    Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps
    Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte
    Estee Lauder Youth-Dew
    Guerlain Mitsouko

He's fascinated by these two fragrances:

100% Love by Grojsman and Shioya ...dark rose, green sap, incense and black cacao

Coriandre by Jean Couturier...a woody-spicy scent.

    Thanks zztopp

He isn't the only one 'fascinated' by 100% Pure Love - I've spent many moments online trying to get ahold of a sample of this, since I don't live near a Barney's. Rose, incense and chocolate. Sounds divine.

Yes mikeperez, I agree. We should seek out "100% Love" (by S-Perfumes)...it may turn out to be the next "Dominico Carceni" and the rose-incense-chocolate theme sounds great!

Ooh, this could be my "dark, smoky floral" fragrance that I've been seeking in another thread. (I'll add it to my list at least -- and I'll report back here if I get a chance to sample it at Barneys.)
    Spray it, don’t say it…

When I read lists like this I always instinctively want them to confirm MY tastes. This list only confirms me in my taste for Guerlain L'Instant, but I know it's the Pour Homme release that I like so much.

I find many of Sophia Grojsman's scents great and even though I couldn't possibly wear some of them (Eternity by Calvin Klein) I respect their complexity and sometimes a maddening, very passionate quality about them (Calyx by Prescriptives is like this). 100% Love seems to evoke this also.

I also think its funny that Malle's fascinated by Coriandre - we were just discussing chypres on the womens board and I was doing some blind sniffing and one of the chypres (which turned out to be Paloma Picasso) I thought for sure was Coriandre, due to the notes I was sniffing. I thought to myself (for a second, when I thought the blind scent might be Coriandre) - who the hell talks about this scent anymore. And then now you posted Malle's notes and it comes to find out he talks about it. Interesting coincidence.

I will give Coriandre a more concentrated sniff, next time I encounter it.

Is 100% Love masculine or unisex? Or neither? I does make a diff for me.

S-Perfumes markets it as a feminine scent.

I just noticed this posted on YouTube (via NowSmellThis) - Sophia Grosjman the nose behind S-Perfume's 100% Pure Love talks about the scent.

A very scary list of mediocre scents. And all this time I thought Frederick Malle had better taste.

All right, I managed to try 100%Love this past weekend. I didn't give it much attention, because I was determined to try half a dozen from the L'Artisan line. Brought T42 home, pretty much as I was expecting.

Anyway, I didn't try 100%Love on my skin or stick with it long enough to appreciate it fully, but for a scent that (allegedly) delivers roses and chocolate, I was surprised by its very fruity topnotes. I've read these are blueberry and cranberry, but the effect to my nose is like those tropical fruits that are described as being "perfumey". (Ironic, I guess, to say that this perfume smells like fruit that smells like perfume.) Think cherimoya or mangosteen. I often dislike notes like these, but there was a depth to them here that made them attractive. If it really does evolve into rose and chocolate, I'll definitely want to give it more attention sometime. (However, nothing smoky about it, contrary to my speculations earlier in this thread...)
