    Smile Scentronic's 1000th Post

    Hi everyone!

I've been trying to come up with some kind of insightful theme or topic for my 1000th post, and I just keep being reminded of the gratitude I feel for having discovered such an enriching, interesting hobby and THE PERFECT supplement (Basenotes) to help guide me to fragrances and people that add significant value to my life!

I've made friends with people all over the world, without ever having seen each other face to face, simply given a common thread to talk about. My (local) friends are interested to hear that I have fragrance friends from a multitude of different locations around the world. I love the differring insights and perspectives everyone provides.

    Some statistics:

I joined Basenotes in Feb. 2006, after going fragrance shopping a couple of times. I had worn fragrances before, but owned maybe one or two bottles at a time, and didn't give them anywhere near as deep consideration as I do now. Being the research fanatic that I am, I set out on the internet to track down an old fragrance or two, and see in anyone had any valuable insight into the world of fragrances. Jackpot!

I have about 45 full-size bottles that I can't see myself going without...at least not for a long while. I think at least half of them are important enough to me to keep them around for the rest of my life. (or replacements, obviously) I've owned and traded or sold about as many in my time on Basenotes.

I've got about 200 samples and decants that I regularly "tour". I can probably name about 75% of them by smell.

There are around 70 other scents that I still want to try!

    Favorite Houses: Creed, Penhaligon's

A few favorite scents: Selection Verte, GIT, MI, BdP, Green Valley, Castile, Endymion, Racquet's, Hugh Parson's Traditional, Dunhill 2003, Dior Homme, Bois d'Argent, Gendarme, Tea for Two, Burberry London

This hobby is an enriching and worthwhile exploration into the world of smell. I collect fragrances (smell), I paint (sight), I listen to and make music (sound), and I love good food, so I guess my only sensory endevor left to conquor would be culinary school, lol! I highly reccommend that everyone on earth become more creative and appreciative of the arts. It makes for a very worthwhile existence!

Thanks to everyone for your kind words, friendship, support, and good deals! I hope each and every one of you decides to remain an integral part of the Basenotes community!

Perfume is such a work of art. It's definitely one of the best human discoveries of creation that combines science and imagination.

Congrats on your 1000th post, and I hope there'll be a lot more to come.

Congrats on number 1,000. More impressive is being able to name the 75% of your samples and decants by smell. You have trained your nose well. Enjoyed reading the post.

Yeaaahhhh another youngster joins the dependents! I think your posts represent us well.

75% is impressive. I'm not sure I could match that!

Yeah, its just repetition that trains you to recognize them. I'll just sit here with a box of samples and smell all of them while I watch tv or something. My room mate will sometimes have me close my eyes while he selects a few and has me smell them. Freaks him out!

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I really liked that you can tell your own scents and samples from other smells, that shows that basenotes and your personal will, well, take us places.

    Congratulations!
