Smile CARDIN ... A discontinued flopp ? or Gem !

Hello Ladies ,, At a flea market boot sale not long ago I was lucky enought to pickup a huge near full 240ml bottle of this EDT boxed .. To my surprise when I got home and onto basenotes I discovered it was discontinued and also femme .. Well that didn't stop me from wearing it & I like it very much and I beleive this fragrance could easily have been graded as unisex .. What I would like to know is what you ladies who own or have used this fragrance think of it ?? .. cheerio .

Is it the one from 1975? Like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=330182923590

Not familiar with this particular scent, but I have a huge respect for Mr.Cardin's older fragrances. Could you please describe it? What is its general character? Any particular notes standing out? Any chance we could arrange for a d*** swap?

Default 'Cardin' (Femme) by Pierre Cardin?

    Does anyone remember this fragrance?

I remember feeling for some reason that I *must* have this scent at some point but cannot now remember why! LOL!

I already own / love Rose and Choc (I am a sad skeezer for cardamom) and wondered if this is another potential love as well?

    Notes from www.scentdirect.com:
Cardin by Pierre Cardin 1976 Floral / Floral

Top: Aldehyde, Bergamot oil, Green Note, Raspberry
Heart: Carnation, Honey, Jasmin, Lily, Orris, Rose, Ylang-Ylang
Base: Amber, Civet, Musk, Oakmoss, Sandalwood

The notes alone mark it as potentially sublime! However I would love to hear the opinions / views of those who are familiar with it...

    Thank you!

    Hello Moondeva ,,
If this is the one you are talking about ...
    Indeed it is superb !!

Quite a mystery as to why it was discontinued so quickly by Mr Cardin ?..
Although marketed as feminine to me its smells masculine ...
Perhaps we can unravel the mystery !

Yes I did start a thread enquiring about this recently and was quite nonplussed to see that absolutely NO ONE responded!!

Oh well, I took a chance, went ahead and purchased the 30ml bottle that I had discovered on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110213835435&ssPa geName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=001) and it is wonderful!! A low key but vibrant, elegant chypre (warm moss) tinged floral that is utterly wearable and perfect for any occasion.

    www.scentdirect.com notes:

Cardin by Pierre Cardin 1976 - Floral Floral

Top: Aldehyde, Bergamot oil, Green Note, Raspberry,
Heart: Carnation, Honey, Jasmin, Lily, Orris, Rose, Ylang-Ylang,
Base: Amber, Civet, Musk, Oakmoss, Sandalwood,

As you can see it contains many of my most favourite notes and is so well blended that even troublesome, discordant notes on my skin like Aldehydes and Honey, work in perfect harmony with the other notes in the blend.

I need to acquaint myself further with this and love the fact that when wearing it I am not constantly bombarded with references / similarities to other scents. There is a kinship to other classic soft chypre tinged florals like Dior Diorella, Guerlain Chant D'Aromes, Maxim's de Paris and the wonderfully rosey sheer, sensual veil of La Perla by La Perla. However, Cardin still manages to remain unique and separate from these.

I loved it so much that I purchased 3 more bottles from the seller. I plan to wear this a lot this spring and summer.

For this classics lover it is an amazing find and a definite Gem.

*I shall add this post as a review when the directory is back up.

Yes D, that is the scent though my tiny 30ml bottle doesn't have the same distinctive lid.

We will have to agree to differ and may be settle for the term genderless as it seems to meld with the skin to perfectly reflect the wearer. Due to certain health problems my chemistry is all over the place again and one downside is that I am unable to comfortably wear many of my much loved masculine scents (YSL M7, Gres Quiproquo, Dior Eau Sauvage, Guerlain Heritage) and have even been neglecting my beloved leather chypres (Gres Cabochard, Ava Luxe Film Noir, Dior Miss Dior) but Cardin is wonderful on me. I must agree though, that is most definitely not a classically feminine scent.

Either way I love it and plan to enjoy it often this coming spring and summer (though it is wonderful all year round).

As to why it was discontinued so quickly, I have a sneaking suspicion that it was primarily so that it would not cause confusion with his other chypre beauty Maxim's de Paris which he launched in the eighties. Cardin is also a bit of anomally among his other feminine scents which have a younger fruity floral vibe / character to them.

The amazing, fresh almost chypre floral Choc is I think their natural successor to Cardin along with the more rosey chypre floral Rose Cardin - both of which I love!

    What do you think?

Seems like its just me & you that own this gem ! .... My bottle is a huge 240ml !
Anyway back in the mid 70's perhaps it wasn't wise for designer frags to be bi ?
Also mysterious is it lack of info and why it pulled of the market ?
Is it possible that Mr Cardin ran into some sinister underworld plot/pressure & this has become something else ?
Summing up I like it very much ... goes really well with Lagerfeld ! layered & mixed ..
A very seductive intoxicating tabu type mix
    cheers .....
