    Default the Ultimate Rose Fragrance?!?

    Hey Ladies (and Gentlemen)
I have been in love with rose-based perfumes for as long as I can remember. I grew up with my mother only wearing Paris edp. Roses remind me of her. I have been trying to smell as many true roses as I can find.

Will you guys help me put together a list of "must smells"?

    Thanx

Sa Majeste la Rose = Must Smell

If you'll take oudh with your roses, try Montale's Aoud Queen Roses, Aoud Damascus, Attar, or even Black Aoud.

2nd les Parfums de Rosine line, samples available at beautyhabit, see code in discount section of board. I would like to try some of the others mentioned, I'm waiting for a sample of Montale's Velvet Flowers from luckyscent, read that is a good one.

Annick Goutal Rose Absolue is the most true rose scent I've smelled, a rose soliflore of six different kinds of roses.

And Les Parfums de Rosine line is definitely worth checking out, too.

Czech & Speake No. 88 is GORGEOUS.
It does have alot of a masala-type incense in it, I think it is Chandan or Laxmi.

Sa Majestie La Rose - amazing.
Rose de Nuit is another Lutens but is a salon exclusive (though it can be got via mail order). It's a more masculine rose. If you email them they may send you a wax sample.
Elizabethan Rose - Penhaligons - very nice indeed.

I'm a rose gardener, so I'm always on the lookout for rose fragrances. Very few have wound up as permanent parts of my collection; I guess I expect a lot from roses.

My very favorite rose is YSL Paris. It's so sparkling and beautiful. It manages to capture the beauty and mood of rose, without trying too hard, or smelling unnatural.

I also love Stella, and wore it for years. I didn't replenish my last bottle, but I will, one of these days.

All the others mentioned are fabulous as well. Definitely try Les Parfums de Rosine! www.les-parfums-de-rosine.com They can be purchased at Beautyhabit and Aedes. Facinating interpretations of many facets of rose.

    I'm a rose ho.

My favorite at the moment is Rose parfum that I got onling from shopbulgaria. It's strong and pure.

My other favorites are Creed's FdTRB, Penhaligon's Elizabethan Rose, Shiseido's Rosarium, and MS Genvieve.

The only reason I don't have any from the Rosine line is that I'm too overwhelmed to choose.

The simple roses Eau des 4 Reines from L'Occitane and Bulgarian Rose from Fresh atr perfectly nice, only a bit light and short.

I love Nahema, too, though I don't consider it a rose soliflore. I didn't care for the EdT strength but the EdP is very close to the parfum and very nice.

Don't anybody forget Opulential's Avicenna!!!! I'd just laid out for my Nahema parfum and tested the two wrist to writst==Avicenna was the winner. For a winter rose fragrance I just don't think it can beat.
    Please, spritz responsibly.

I would say CHANEL NO. 5 but for the fact that the aldehydes absolutely overpower the rose (and everything else) in that one!

I personally don't care too much for rose in perfume. Too often it's not real rose, but rather phenethyl alcohol, which smells artificial, synthetic and chemical to my nose.

    I like LILAC! :-)

My candidate for "Ultimate Rose Fragrance" would have to be the long-discontinued Avon, ROSES, ROSES.

L'Artisan, VOLEUR DE ROSES wouldn't be a bad second!

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I think you can guess from my ID that I love roses! We currently have 30 bushes in our garden.

My favorite rose fragrance is the original "Evelyn" by Crabtree & Evelyn (before they altered it and called it "Evelyn Rose".) It smelled very much like a living rose, though sweeter and less green than the actual rose named Evelyn, hybridized by David Austin (we have 6 bushes of Evelyn.)

The original "Evelyn" EDP is no longer available (I have my 2 hoarded bottles, though, which I store in the fridge), but for those who loved it, a similar but somewhat less complex and shorter lasting version is "True Rose" by Woods of Windsor. Plan to respray often if you use the WoW scent.

My second favorite rose scent is Annick Goutal's "Ce Soir Ou Jamais", which smells rather like a rich potpourri rather than a fresh rose. I love wearing this in the fall and winter.

I agree that Annick Goutal's "Rose Absolue" is worth smelling, but I have a bottle and find that I don't choose it as often as the other two I mentioned above.

Yardley's "English Rose" has drawn favorable remarks from total strangers.

When I first bought "Coriandre" by Jean Couturier, many years ago, the roses in it hit me right away, and it was my favorite perfume for years. I still keep a bottle in the fridge for occasional use. Worth a sniff, definitely.

Ooh, I forgot about C&E's Evelyn, that is a nice one.

I love spicy roses: Vivienne Westwood's Anglomania, Chopard's Madness, and Penhaligon's Hammam Bouquet. Yves Rocher's Rose Absolute is a gently spicy rose.

Wood's of Windsor's True Rose can be had for ten bucks, and honestly, it's true. It's about as true as this extremely rare blah blah long story $275 for a smidgen but you have to order it they custom make it on order only Snow Rose.

Hi 30 roses and welcome! I'm a newcomer here too - and a rose nut as well. My avatar pic is a super fragrant Damask rose I grow called "Duc de Guiche" (was grown by empress Josephine). Love the Austins too! My love of scented roses brought me to perfume forums. I also grow Kazanlik - ugly bush - wonderful scent - used in perfume production.

Crabtree and Evelyn used to do a talc called Damask Rose. It was gorgeous and I loved it and was very disappointed when they discontinued it.

I have "4 Reines" by L'Occitane and it is lovely and light and fresh. An ideal work fragrance that is very individual but not so in-your-face or weird that would make it inappropriate for work. ( I am a GP- aka a family doctor).

Voleur de Roses L'Artisan is also lovely in a deeper more sensual way-I have only had a decant of this and adored it.

My husband wears Czech and Speake No 88 and it has this amazing "magic shop" scent-very intriguing.

But on my husband, the rose scent that really turns me on is Le Labo Rose 31. We had to buy this from Liberty's in London-the only UK supplier. It seems to me to be really sexy and gorgeous in a "rip-his-clothes-off-NOW!" kind of way.

(Along with the Rose 31 they send me a testing strip of their patchouli. The blotter strip came in a box, with a Liberty's ribbon, a Liberty's bag and a Liberty's label. It scented my desk area for weeks from within the box. I may have to buy a full bottle as it is fading and I love it....)

Enjoyed testing MPG Rose Opulente yesterday, and would recommend it. Scent lasted all day and all night.

Went on quite strong but settled down and stayed and stayed and stayed. Is not at all uniflor - the rose is mixed with spices. MPG site says the rose used is Rosa 'Ispahan' - which I grow, and is one of my favs - a spicy, not powdery rose with hints of clove. Did not smell the musk on me - but did get sandalwood in the drydown.

Am trying MPG Rose Muskissime today - to see how they compare.

Wow, I didn't mean to ignore the welcomes!! I didn't realize the thread had updates...the emails from Basenotes go to an email address I don't use often.

After reading the recommendations here, I tried Stella. It reminded me of Ce Soir Ou Jamais a little, but I still like the Annick Goutal scent more.

Hi 30 Roses - I'm utterly jealous! We just sold our house with my beautiful climbing roses on the walls in the garden. I took cuttings though and my greenfingered Mum is babying them along for me. I've never encountered a fragrance that actually matches the scent of a true rose. My Mum has a dark dark red one called Guinee climbing over the front window of her house and it has the most powerful, rich scent I've ever come across. Everyone that comes to her house when it's in bloom gets told 'smell this!'

My personal favourite rose is Nahema. I have the tiniest bottle of the parfum and it's gorgeous. As rich as that red rose, and not too sweet.

Just can't let this thread go by without suggesting Tresor by Lancome...it's easy to find, relatively inexpensive and the main reason to try it is Sophia Grojsman...the nose behind the parfum, she is also the creator of Paris! Tresor is a peach/rose fragrance, and while not a 'true rose' scent, it is sparkling and lovely in it's own right! Happy sniffing!

Bvlgari's Rose Essentielle eau de toilette. Stunning, in my opinion. Just bought it. You can sign up to receive a free sample on the site. They're out right atm, but check back later.

Will you guys help me put together a list of "must smells"?

Hi Bronte82, As one of the newer members, who has never posted anything, may I add a few that weren't mentioned ? Trying to avoid repetition, I don't think that these were among the suggestions. Andy Taur's, " L'air du dese'rt marocain", exotic, unisex, rock rose & jasmine, combine with oriental spices, to make a fragrance that is spicy/ earthy/ warm, as the desert it's named for. I find this one completely irrisistible ! L'Artisan, " Drole de Rose " ; A deep, dark, rose. Sophistocated, elegant, and tasteful, but manages to retain an air of playfulness, and youth; " Amaze": People Of The Labryrinths, This is not like ANY other rose scent that I've ever worn, and there have been many. Unique & georgous, this is a rose lover's rose ! Last, but not least , " Mankara " Indult , a rose like no other; creamy, rich, sweet, yet refreshing at the same time. Unique ! I was smitten from first whiff !

Hope that I was able to aid you in finding your " perfect " rose. You've gotten so many amazing perfumes recommended by the other members of Basenotes, you'll probably find several wonderful scents among them. Here's to happy sniffing, me-thinks that you'll still be at it far into the forseeable future !

I'll second that vote for L'Artisan Parfumeru Drole de Rose.
I forgot to mention it. One of the only violet/rose combos that I like.
    Very natural smelling.
And today, I was in the mood for Guerlain Nahema. Didn't have any, but I sure craved it.

I like Stella McCartney alot for an affordable rose. However, I hear Montale has some nice rose fragrances for women. Personally, I wear Black Aoud by Montale. I plan to sample No.88 someday.

I would definitely recommend my currently favorite, Eau Suave by Parfum d'Empire

It is a very true French rose scent inspired by the Empress of the France, Joséphine de Beauharnais, who loves and plants a kind of Bourbon rose called Souvenir de la Malmaison in her garden. This special rose exudes a distinct spicy/fruity fragrance which makes Eau Suave smell outrageously royal and sensual.

This light, slightly powdery, dark rose completely mesmerizes me. It has a quality very different from mainstream sweet rose scents in the market but it is 100% worth a try.

Hello!!! I adore rose fragrance. I just wanted to share with you my favorite one – “Bulgarian Rose perfume”. This is Bulgarian Rose oil perfume essence.
The fragrance is divinely sweet, rich, and deeply floral. This rose oil perfume essence is a less concentrated form of the 100% pure rose oil and that is why is not as much expensive as the pure 100% rose oil and not so strong.

L'Artisan's Saffran Troublant - a delicious combination with saffron. For a greener rose, Rose Ikebana (Hermessence). And Voleur de Roses (for the patchouli). I must admit, I don't really like most rose scents. I had a bottle of L'Ombre dans l'Eau and though I tried hard it was too loud for me. Sa Majeste La Rose smellt like bug spray. Many rose scents smell phony, not the real thing at all.

hmm. don't know if its been mentioned, but santa maria novella's rose perfume is simply divine and wonderfully long lasting; i can still smell it on me now after midnight, and i had put it on around 12:45 this afternoon before work. and it reminded me all day of florence, italy. ahhh... :-)

plus, here's on that i don't think anyone else is going to think of: baby colonge. in the supermarkets and walgreens and stuff around here there are big bottles of splash perfume for all of 5 bucks. They're meant for kids, and often have spanish writing on the bottle. the rose one is wonderful and wonderfully cheap. i mean, its not as classy as many of the frags mentioned here, but for something to throw on after the gym, or just to putter around in, why not?

Great recommendations already- one of my faves- Aoud Roses Petals- has already been mentioned several times.

A few others that I feel are worth mentioning:

Joy- in parfum, if you can find it. A bewitching combo of Bulgarian rose and jasmine.
Agent Provocateur- this is a dry rose on me- like a very fine, English, rose soap.
Etro New Tradition- another dry rose along with herbals- a fragrance in the same vein as Agent Provocateur.
Aqaba- a bright, sweet and spicy rose. While it doesn't smell anything like it, this one's "character" reminds me of Coco in parfum. It has a similar "density" of fragrance.
Andy Tauer's Incense Rosé- it's not out yet. We have to wait until the end of March but I was so taken by this one- rose, warm, dry earth and incense. Fabulous!
Respond intelligently even to unintelligent treatment.

Hi everyone - new basenoter trying to post...

I don´t see anyone mentioned Diptyque´s Opone which sadly is going to be discontinued. "Dirty" rose, and I also got a feeling of sunburnt skin.

I agree with the poster who mentioned Rose Poivree; to me rather similar to Opone but without the sun... Third favourite rose: Serge Lutens Rose de Nuit. Elegant and mysterious.

Hi, Xtaddax, I'm so glad you like the Spanish baby perfumes. I do too. They evoke a sweet, innocent feeling. My favorites are the Violet ones and, as you mentioned, the rose ones.

I see Gres Cabaret and Coriandre have already been mentioned, I like the transparent quality these two have. I have a sample of L'Arte di Gucci that is dark and juicy and so sexy, too bad it's been discontinued.

Must agree with several others here about:

    Annick Goutal Rose Absolue
Creed Fleur de the Rose Bulgare
    Jo Malone Red Roses
    Bulgari Rose Essentiel

But if you prefer the real deal then Pure Rose Otto from Bulgaria,Turkey or Morrocco!

I also want to add Montale Roses Musk, Crystal Flowers Roses Petals and Aoud Queed Roses

For the classic perfume rose lover - YSL Paris has plenty of loyal followers

Ooh someone revived this one Awesome - I was just thinking of rose scents. I didn't realise Anglomania was discontinued either... I bought a small bottle a couple of weeks ago. Tis a nice, spicy rose. Also likey the Rose Ikebana recommendation - it barely lasts on me though. Am wearing Ombre Rose today and I guess it smells a little dated but tis still good... anyone else have thoughts on this one?

I think I have read Stella McCartney Stella (Rose Absolute) five times in this thread already, and I want to write it once more, for a lovely pure rose-fragance (at least on my skin), who is afordable and not too hard to find. And not so many wears it today...

I want to secound Chanel No 19, a green-rose frag, leaning to chypre, who is adorable (at least on my skin).
Faves right now: Chanel No 19, Stella Rose Absolute, L´Heure Bleu, Elixir de Merveilles, Samsara.
