Default Surprisingly, underwhelmed by Hugh Parsons 99 Regent St.

I had some pretty big expectations for this one, but I must say that it is quite subtle, probably the most subtle out of the three that I've tried (traditional and yellow included).

It IS pleasant, crisp, and refreshing, like the other HP scents, but I don't get much more than ambergris, musk, a bit of wood, soap, and flowers. A pretty simplistic concoction. Everything comes through clearly, but I don't see this one as having as much sillage as the other two HP scents. Almost like a "skinscent"

I'm not giving up on this one yet, but when I had heard it compared to GIT and MI, I figured this would be a real knockout, even given the HP line's rep for being understated and traditional. Testing will continue, and in the mean time, I'll be on the lookout for Hugh Parsons "Old England".

    Wow...........:-(

Sorry to hear that. It kills me when my high expectations get dashed......

It does not remind me of GIT or MI but I do consider this a great fragrance. At first I wasn't too impressed but just comparing that to 75% of the fragrances I smell, I would say it is better than most. It doesn't smell like all of the main stream/mass market cologne which is good. It also is simple and not really unusual smelling like some niche scents. I definitly give this a thumbs up.

    I love this one!

I get a little GIT out of it, they both have violet leaves and amber gris in common.

The scent grows richer, he knows he must be near
He finds a long passageway lit by chandelier
Each step he takes, the perfumes change
From familiar fragrance to flavours strange
A magnificent chamber meets his eye

Though, I WOULD say that this is probably the most straightforward use of ambergris that I've come across...(as far as what I have convinced myself to believe ambergris to smell like, anyway!)
