    Default Most Sophisticated Fragrance?

    Hi,

I am new to basenotes and thought i would post my first thread. What would everyone say is there most sophisticated scent? The one you can put on everytime with a suit and feel like a million $$$$$? When i say sophisticated too i don't mean smelling like a retirement home.

    Welcome to Basenotes.....Mr. Bond....

Chanel Allure homme smells great for a formal occassion and can be easily worn on a daily basis (assuming you wear a suit to work everyday)

Creed Bois Du Portugal is another wonderful suit & tie fragrance. This one however is more like a cool weather scent.

    My current collection includes:

    Gucci Envy
    L'Eau D'Issey pour Homme
    Joop Jump
    Aqua Di Gio
    Terre Hermes
    A*Men
    Musc Ravageur
    Burberry Brit

I generally use the first two scents mostly. I like the smell of Aqua Di Gio, but it doesnt last on my skin. I suppose the good thing is nobody wears it here! Terre Hermes etc were blind purchases. I also like Dior Homme, but again the damn scent doesnt last!

I don't consider "Silver Mountain Water" a sophisticated scent, but every time I smell it, I "feel like a million $$$$$". Also Try some of those classical Colognes. They have the same touch in them for me.

Geo F. Trumper Sandalwood is the most sophisticated fragrance i know. I can smell so many notes, so much stuff going on during its evolution...the equivalent of listening to a simphonic orchestra.

Dunhill Edition, Bvlgari BLV Notte, Santos Concentree, KL Homme aren't far behind.

For a suit and tie, I would say Chanel pour Monsieur -- the original 1955 version, not the Concentrée.

    Vintage John Varvatos

I dont consider John Varvatos by John Varvatos to be THEE most sophisticated scent. It okay, but the obsecure fruity notes make it seem a little eh idk.. It is a great scent. I love it but it is not that sophisticated, wtf is sophisticated fragrance anyway? Like something I could see Colonel Sanders or Donald Trump wearing?

Sophisticated as in a scent you would generally use for a formal occasion ie wearing a suit. One that exudes confidence and makes everyone around them stop and notice you. Generally a business setting.

    Cool Re: Most Sophisticated Fragrance?

    Double O:

The three most sophisticated scents have been discontinued.
    They were:

Jean Patou Pour Homme, Versailles PH and Dunhill '34 (the latter supposedly given to 007 by Ian Fleming to be his 'signature ' scent. You'll know why when you smell it)

So they're hard to track down, but not impossible.

Antaeus has been advertised as 'suitable for romantic wear' and so it is, but it also makes a helluva 'suit and tie' scent. It's quite elegant.

Creed's Original Vetiver also fits your requirements; as does Versace L'Homme, Trumper's Eucris, and Chanel's Egoiste.

These are completely different smells, but they'll do splendidly for a night at the opera or a luncheon at the yatch club. So, the good news is there's plenty of choice.

Unless this business meeting carries a threat of hostility; if so, then go to Vintage Tabarome by Creed--- an favorite of both Winston Churchill and Humphrey Bogart----No one will mess with you . . .

Having said all this, you have to find a scent that fits your personality, of course.
Do not take my word or anyone else's.
If you can obtain decants or minis to sample before purchasing, a full bottle, that's the smart way to go about it.

It would be a good idea to read the reviews section, for a good contrast of opinions regarding these subtle yet powerhouse scents.

However, ultimately it's up to your nose. You'll be the one wearing it.

    Cheers,

    Mario
