I happen to think Noir Epices, Black Aoud and Black Tourmaline are all pretty well-named. Perhaps also Czeck & Speake No. 88 and Antaeus. Meanwhile, Santa Maria Novella Nostalgia may be a good deal "blacker" than Bvlgari Black.
Yesterday I was thinking about which fragrances in my wardrobe would be which color (I was bored at work, cut me a little slack) and while it's very easy to classify the blues, greens, browns, and even purple (Ungaro 3, I'm looking at you) I couldn't think of a fragrances that would be truly 'black'
Part of the problem might be the completely inappropriate use of black in mainstream fragrances. Polo Black, Kenneth Cole Black, Paco Rabbane Black XS, none of these have any dark notes in their nature. Bvlgari Black isn't even black to me, vanilla and rubber just don't bring black to mind.
So, what do you think a true black fragrance would be, and why?

Czech and Speake No. 88
Very dark, mysterious rose mixed with incense. Must have been conjured up by the dark wizard.
To me, Aigner Black is a pretty BLACK smelling scent.. I love it.. I remember having read somewhere that it contains some pure Black Musk and if you ask me, it does smell like it really has healthy doses of Black Musk added it for good measure.
If you haven't sampled it yet, I highly recommend that you do so.

PVC and Leather. A Chain and a feather
Trusardi Uomo
Jacomo de Jacomo
Are two that come to mind for me - and I do agree with Javagreen with Aigner Black. I just recently added this gem to my collection great lasting power and sillage.
Dali Pour Homme.
Scent Intense by Costume National is rather Black... in an obscure and morbidly challenging kind of way...
Dzing! is black to me
Lately I've been wearing:
Windsor, Bois de Santal, Original Santal, Elixir, Douro, Endymion, Reflection, Arcus, Marwah
I agree with Black Tourmaline, and nominate CdG Incense Avignon. Its churchly presence is very gothic in my mind.
Behemoth cut a slice of pineapple, salted it, peppered it, ate it, and then tossed off a second glass of alcohol so dashingly that everyone applauded.
I don't know how to articulate why these should be called black but:
Dali Pour Homme is seconded, though I don't like it much!
Black Aoud, it black - dark, think and sharp at the same time.
Black Licorice by Ayala Moriel makes me think of a grey/black.
supermarky mentioned CdG Tar - sounds pretty black!
CAESAR SEEKS:
Parfums d'Empire: Fougére Bengale
CAESAR SWAPS/SELLS:
Sa Majesté La Rose
Current Top 5
1. Creed Aventus
2. A*Men Pure Malt
3. L'instant Extreme
4. Nasomatto Duro
5. CDG - Kyoto
What is "black musk"?
Black Musk apparently is a darker smelling musk.. a darker version of musk? Just like we have some colognes containing other variations of musk like "White Musk", "Transparent Musk" et al.. i'm not sure tho if it comes naturally.

i always think of varvatos as sort of a black frag...dont know why but it has something mysterious about it! I dont consider polo black or double black to be a black though....polo black feels just like blue and double black should have been dubbed polo tan or Polo Cream or something else..double black....did ralph just run out of ideas...nice frag, but kinda dorky name

Siseido Basala and Feminite du Bois
Donna Karan Black Cachmere
CDG 2
Rochas Lui
Ungaro III - truly gothic, the epitome of noir sensuality. My all-time favorite.
Dali Pour Homme - something twisted about this one, like rainbows reflected in gasoline.
C&S no 88 - another rose classic.
I don't consider many of them genuinely black, but there are quite a few which are dark. Jules (Dior) is my favorite. It paints bold dark tones, using accents of rising green to highlight its umbra theme. It also smells incredible. And it's sexy too.
I have to second Dzing!, Antaeus and Jules.
And disagree with #88 (rather purple velvet) and CDG #2 (rather white)
I`ll add Aoud Cuir d`Arabie Montale, Or Noir Morabito, DK Fuel for Men.
Vetiver The Great!!!
I agree with black Tourmaline

Black Orchid - T. Ford. While it's sweet at first, but it changes into a very dark orchid!
By the way, anyone know a good place to get Aigner Black?

"Faites des bêtises, mais faites les avec enthousiasme !" Colette
L'Artisan's D'zing! - as black as it gets - smells like elephant in India.
Generally scents with prominent smoke (and/or ash) seem 'black' to my nose.
I see I am not alone - Black Tourmaline by Olivier Durbano (which has many recommendations) is a smoke prominent scent that is also exceedingly well done. Others that come to mind instantly are Japan Noir by Tom Ford, Burning Leaves by CBIHP and Fumidus by Profumum.
Well, when I think "black", I think gothic. Black XS is black to me along with C&S No. 88, L'Artisan VdR, CdG Avignon and the other CdG Insense series.
