    Default SotD 24 October Friday

    Good morning everyone!

The storm settled and I expect it to have snowed more outside, yesterday I was in a snowstorm..not fun.

Wearing Datura Noir for a little bit of wamrth.
But once you get locked into a serious perfume collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

Lian, send some snow here, I really miss it! And btw, I've seen some pictures of Reykjavik made by a friend who was there...I absolutely love it! Can't wait to visit it!
I'm wearing Burberry Brit today, suitable with the rainy weather outside.

Happy belated birthday to Somerville Metro Man
and my best wishes to ComDiva.

I am wearing Divine - Divine, from a sample.
I was tempted to buy this in Frankfurt, a chypre with white flowers, very nice.
It reminds me of Ysatis now.

I tried a lot of new things for me there, and I most liked:
Fougere Benghal, ( but I am not sure I could wear it...),
Santa Maria Novella Melograno ( but a lot of incence in the drydown...)
Micallef Gardenia ( but I have already got Isabey which I think is better )
Noir Patchouli-Histoire de Parfums ( I was smelling more rose in it and it was kind of thin comparing with other patchoulis )

I think Patchouli Noir - Il Profumo was the best I tried, a very deep patchouli with a chocolate ' taste' in the begining and wonderful drydown ( if you like patchouli as I do ). Something between Jalaine and Mazzolari patchouli. ( But... I can't spent more on perfume! )

I wish you all a very nice weekend!

Still warm-ish here - early 70's - and I'm gong down swinging. Refuse to surrender to colder weather!!

So!! Super-generous BlackCat sent me an adorable little sample (it's an exact replica of the larger bottle) of Éclat d'Arpège (thankyouthankyou!!) ...a rully good choice. There's only the slightest echo of it's big sister in this really pretty citrusy floral. Opens light and green with a whiff of liliac...gentles into a really authentic peony that settles into the lightest musky cedar. Young in heart and floaty.

    Was thinking about ScentMom today.

She sent me a decant of Cinq Monde Pleuie de Petales de Roses.
This is a gentle spicy rose / vanilla. Quite soothing and pretty.

Good luck ScentMom! And don't let those docs push you around!

Some gossip to keep your mind off things:

Had the dinner last night with the very important ex. It went extraordinarily well. He's the healthiest I've seen him in 15 years. Been taking care of himself (mostly), got his teeth worked on (he was missing a couple the last time I saw him), isn't as cadaverously skinny (his diet has improved from pizza and beer), and has been religious with the sunscreen (he works outdoors).

I dare say he looks almost as good as when I first met him 20 years ago.

More importantly, I think we are both at a stage in our lives where we are content with what we are doing, what's going on around us and what we've become. I hadn't seen him this happy in ..... ever.

Didn't really talk about the past or relationships or any drama. Just storytelling (he's a hell of a raconteur - and I didn't have to dump a lot of alcohol in him this time) and lots of questions about who each other is today.

It was a well spent couple of hours getting to know each other again. And he seemed pleased with who was on the other side of the table too.

My birthday present from my lovely wife and my marching orders for the morning are to go spend the $500 gift card I got at Copley Place on some new perfume.
I've been thinking about what I will get all morning. The new Malle is in and Serge Noir is in. I want to try the new Polo Modern Reserve or should I finally spring for a Rosine. There are a couple of L'Artisans I don't own.

Chilly and overcast this morning, with rain expected later...which we need. It's supposed to get up to 58F here today (whimpers). I'm wearing Trésor edp by Lancôme this morning. I think my little bottle is starting to fade on me. I've taken good care of it, but I think some fragrances just have a shelf life no matter how carefully you treat them. Oh well, no biggie.

A rotten day for me here, though the weather is bright and breezy.

    2. Have decided it's probably for the best if I leave my job, after 6 years of battling.
    3. Have decided I officially can't get along with the other women at my night-school class. Big shame. The class last year was lovely.

Consoling myself with the muted warmth of L'Artisan's Safran Troublant.

SMM, sorry I missed your birthday. Hope you have fragrant fun picking out a scent. Spoil yourself!

I didn't like Sous le Vent at all. That's the first Guerlain I've really disliked. I sprayed some on a piece of fabric to see if it was just the way it behaved on my skin, but didn't like it on the fabric either.

I'm wearing Coeur d'Ete by Miller Harris. The website says this about Lyn Harris and Coeur d'Ete:

Needing something to nurture her senses she created this very pure scent made up of flowers: white lilac, cassie and heliotrope, blended with unusual ingredients such as chocolate bean, banana and liquorice. A joy to wear, this scent keeps getting better and better as you wear it.

I think that sounds just the thing to celebrate with ComDiva.

    Oh joyous news for ComDiva!

Here is video of the above photo in action

I too had a little scare earlier this year that testing revealed to be nothing, but I coincidentally have a followup appt at noon today with my GP because she likes to really Make Sure.

More good news-- I stepped on the scale this morning and I'm 139 lbs for the first time since 2004 when I briefly Adkins-ed off 20 lbs for my 20th high school reunion. It was all back after a couple of years, and last year I piled on another 10. After a holiday party last December, one of my dearest friends said to let her know if I needed to borrow any of her maternity dresses. She truly meant well, as all our friends seem to be having babies right now. But I knew it was time to do something. It's so nice to look more like 'me' again!

Oh, yeah! I'm wearing Chaos today!

Escada Collection. This scent and I go way back, with disregard on both sides.

I first found this after it had been discontinued. I bought several bottles for twenty dollars each. EC never worked for me; the tobacco note was disagreeable. Too sweet, too reminiscent of smoke shops and their array of flavored tobacco (chewing or otherwise).

I sold every bottle I had at great profit and bought other things that I later also sold (the fragrance carousel and the buy low-sell high of eBay). Gris Clair replaced the first bottle and En Passant a second. A third paid for a hotel room in Lake Tahoe and a fourth a pair of Cole Haan mules (when demand was very high).

I still had a decant that I kept, and today I used some and today I find that I like EC, after five years and hundreds of missed spritzes. It's just right for this semi-humid, dripping day before the Gator Growl. The tobacco is smoothed by what I'm told is a cola note, but which on me is more sassafrass tea.

I used to also have six bottles of the lotion.

Great news ComDiva! I guess I missed SMM's birthday so hope it was great and many more! OudGirl, way to go...you need to be committed to do it and you certainly were.

Wearing Creed Virgin Island Water from a sample Rtamara sent me. I'm not liking it, almost to the point that I was going to scrub it off when I got to work but got busy and forgot about it. Thank goodness, it has receded to the point that I have to really smell my skin to catch a whiff of it. I have gone and read the notes and I don't think it was the bergamot or mandarin that I found so not to my liking, so I'm guessing it was the copra.

Comdiva: YAAAAAAYYY!!!!!!!!! Have been thinking of you all day and I'm so glad you're OK.
Sakecat: sounds like you and your important ex might be on the road to real friendship. It certainly sounds like you're pleased where he is as well as being happy where you've got to.
Soir de Lune: sounds like you had a really crappy day. Bummer. Sending you a hug and a glass of champagne, because at least you've decided to leave your job and you will get snapped up once you put out your CV, I have no doubt.

I started the day in Nahema, after reading our Mr Guerlain's blog yesterday (that man is a fount of knowledge). It was from a decant I've had for a couple of years and I think it might have gone off a bit, as I got no roses from it at all today. In fact, it ended up smelling vaguely like Vol de Nuit Evasion/Attrape Coeur with that vanilla/peach thing going on. Most odd.

Scet of the evening is Fragonard's Baroque, from their tester set. I like it.
