Default What were your wardrobe additions for 2007?

It retrospect, "Sampling 2007" resulted in the addition of some very special fragrances.

Nanadebary Green: As close to my soul scent as any I've encountered. It taught me I can love a green scent. It's herbal and fresh, absent any sharp notes. Ahhh.

Stephanie by Storer: A floral rooted in spring/summer. A living flower, a gardenia, a beauty.

Eleftorea: When I crave maximum citrus freshness, while still circumnavigating sour or sharp qualities, this Bourbon French frag in perfume form holds up very well.

Rue Royale: I don't know what part of this Hové floral musk scent makes me melt. There's something holding it back from being complete perfection for me, but it's oh so near.

What fragrances were appended to your wardrobe list this year?

All I can do is hang my heard in shame! My purchases were far too frequent and my satisfactions too fleeting!

    However several stand out:

Thanks to you Quarry, I have Nanadebary Green. A true foundation scent, gorgeous.

Michael Storer's Genvieve about which I rave constantly!

Ava Luxe LTBL (I went through nearly two bottles) and several others from Serena's site, Rasa, Roses, Incense Rose and Incense Tibet.

Tumulte Pour Homme, a great cedar incense scent, and on me more wearable than Messe de Minuit which is almost impossible to find anyway.

L'Heure Bleue parfum in golden case
    Or des Indes
    Imperial Opoponax

Ha! Almost everything in it! Really. Neiges and Tabu I purchased shortly after Christmas. Kingdom came from ebay a little later on, and Bois Farine and Premier Figuier came from nearfantastica and Iris Silver Mist from Shycat in late winter/early spring. I recieved Dune from DH2B for Valentine's. I went on a bit of a spree this summer: I had a sample of Io that I was quickly using up so went and bought a large bottle of it. While purchasing that I perused the Serge Lutens and reacquainted my self with A La Nuit. A week later I was back for it as I decided that is was the perfect summer-night-sexy scent. I was given several samples including Clair de Musc, which I was never interested in trying before and, sure enough, the next Friday, there I was, buying another beautiful bottle. My last splurge was my Christmas gift to myself: bottles of Datura Noir, Daim Blond, and Cedre. I took advantage of the Beautyhabit 25 % off sale. They haven't arrived yet but I expect them shortly after I return home from the holidays.
And I'm pretty sure there'll be something that smells good found under the tree this Christmas.

It's going to be quite difficult to remember every purchase, I think. Off the top of my head, the fragrances I've acquired this year are:

    Ambre Sultan
    A La Nuit
    Sa Majeste La Rose
    Shocking
    Coco Mademoiselle
    Sicily
    Mitsouko
    Champs Elysee
    Innocent Secret
    Asja
    Tabac Blond
    Kai
    Aqua Allegoria Pivione Magnifica
    Songes
    Black Cashmere
    Agent Provocateur Eau Emotionelle
    Recital (my bespoke)
    Aromatics Elixir
Narciso Rodriguez For Her (EDP and EDT and coffret)
    Le Baiser du Dragon
    Infusion d'Iris

I'm sure there are more. Holy cow, I've bought a lot of smells this year!

I'm looking forward to receiving Storer samples. Stephanie gets glowing reviews everywhere, and just reading the notes makes my mouth water. I have a feeling I'm going to love this one. :-) I've added Nanadebary Green to my 'would like to test' list in my wardrobe, and will be investigating if it's available in the UK later this evening. It's another I've read a lot about.

    You go, girls! Wonderful additions.

Almost forgot to include my newest (just a decant, but still) ...

Guerlain Angelique Noire: Who knew there'd be a vanilla-based scent I'd fall for!?!?! I think of it as the Yin to Nanadebary Green's Yang. Where Nan G is mostly green with some soft musk, Angelique Noire is mostly soft vanilla with green top notes.

My wardrobe grew like kudzu this year but it's a collection spanning some 25 years, many bottles have been replaced and restocked, but some are my original acquisitions all stored in a cool dark place. All but a very few have survived admirably.

Mine too, pretty much. I had a lot of frags, but no niche frags at all. All the same, I don't know how you store your hundred-odd perfumes. I only have 33 in my wardrobe and my dressing table is overflowing. I think I need a special container...and my husband makes flight cases for musical equipment...I'm sure he could knock me something up...gosh, wish I'd thought of that before Christmas! :-)

Red face Re: What were your wardrobe additions for 2007?

Not much for me. Dzongkha was the big addition, really worth the euros, and Black Cashmere. I tried Niki de Saint Phalle in 2006 but turned into a nutty collector this year, almost all the zodiac bottles and the jewelry, it was a real cross-Europe hunt and saga! Fortunately it's one of my favorite perfumes because now I own just under a liter of it!!!

I bought quite a bit this year - but this was an abnormal year, and was part of my plan. I paid myself for 4 months of hard labor/construction work - April thru July - in perfume. DH got himself a new set of LP drums and a flat screen TV. Unless I hit lotto, or someone leaves me a legacy I doubt I will ever make these many purchases in a year (or decade) - ever again.

    Boucheron: Edition Bleue

Caron: Bellodgia, Fleur de Rocaille, N'Aimez Que Moi , Narcisse Noir, Nocturnes, Nuit de Noël, Parfum Sacré

    Comptoir Sud Pacifique: Vanille Abricot

Guerlain: Après L'ondée , Aqua Allegoria Rosa Magnifica, Champs-Elysées, Nahéma , Parure (2 bottles), Plus Que Jamais, Aqua Allegoria Foliflora

Hermès: Un Jardin en Méditerranée, Un Jardin sur le Nil

Jean Patou: 1000, Sira des Indes

Lancôme: Hypnôse, Mille et Une Roses / 2000 Et Une Rose (gift from DH )

Maître Parfumeur et Gantier: Bahiana, Fleurs des Comores

    Serge Lutens: Datura Noir

Yves Rocher: Ispahan, Rose Absolue, Voile d'Ambre

This list does not count samples, gifts I bought for others, and a few re-stocks of favs that I would have bought anyway - like Terracotta Voile d'Ete (bought 3 cause I'm hoarding)
So this year wardrobe nearly doubled.

    I'm in frag heaven

(waiting to hear from Chaya )

After getting my wardrobe down to about 10 scents, in 2007, I added:

Aimez Moi / Caron (parfum and EDT)
La Chasse aux Papillon / L' Artisan (extreme and regular)
Corps et Ames / Parfumerie Generale (EDP)

As my preferences run strongly to greens and woodsy/mossy, I am quite proud that I've branched out a bit!

I've also added bottles and bottles of old formula First (I'm wearing it today and I smell AWESOME and it just gets better with every hour!!! I'm swooning over myself!!!) and 24 Faubourg. These two scents are the standards by which I measure anything new that comes into my collection. Anything new needs to at least meet the innovation and quality that these represent to me.

My plan for 2008 is to thoroughly test the MPG, the Parfums de Nicolai, and perhaps the Mona Orio (sp??) lines. A basenoter thought they smelled "classic" and recommended them to me, so I'm excited to get some samples and see what they're all about! Also, I'm going to eventually experiment with layering Creeds, but that's a dauntingly large undertaking!

Chaya - What matters for me is whether I am learning from my purchases and/or wearing what I purchase. If either of those things are in place, I am fine with whatever I purchase.

    Hi Chaya,

I guess I don't consider collections a disease or madness (only if you can't pay your mortgage)

I have so many friends who collect paintings or sculpture, or vintage cars...instruments...illuminated manuscripts...the list is endless. Life is about balancing pleasures and priorities. One nice long luxury cruise can cost upwards of 10 K these days - and what is left are pleasant memories and perhaps a photo album. I've spent lots and lots over the years acquiring vintage roses...and my piddly collection does not compare to those of real rosarians - some who have well over a thousand bushes.

I guess it all adds up to one basic question - do you love the frags you have, and the experience of exploring this art of perfumery? If so be content my dear ..and enjoy.
