    Default Recommendations please...

I'm looking for a masculine fragrance but I don't want to smell like an old man. I've been looking into Creed, but without being able to sample them I have no idea what to expect.

Think: night, wood, black leather, dark, mysterious, sexy.

Also, I don't want to wear something that's so common that I'm reminding girls of their ex-boyfriends.

I would go with Havana by Aramis if you can find it...

"Think: night, wood, black leather, dark, mysterious, sexy."

Parfumerie Generale Cuir d'Iris. Leather and an earthy, rooty iris.

Santa Maria Novella Nostalgia. Weird, but fits the bill.

I think I'm going to "bite the bullet" and buy a bottle of Himalaya.

Himalaya is good but "night, wood, black leather, dark, mysterious, sexy" all it has is a bit of wood and just maybe a tad sexy.

A better fitting job is Antaeus. Don't worry, no Old Spice connotations involved.

I agree on Antaeus, and add Idole de Lubin, Santal Noble, Black Tourmaline, and Chene to your list. Also have a peek at the current "Darkest, heaviest fragrance" thread. Do yourself a favor too, and sample before buying.

lol....himalaya is nothing what you described ...it is a sweet, earthy mix that reminds you of a bright, shiny winter day....not leather/night or darkness....

i think Bois Du Portugal fits the bill from your description....but i woudlnt recommend getting it before trying it on.....its one of those "you either love it....or might not be able to wear it" types....

out of mainstream perfumes....Chanel Platinum Egoiste fits the bill.....or Burberry London.

i also think Vetiver by Frederic Malle might be good for that as well.....

No offence but EP or Burberry London is anything but dark, leathery, or mysterious. You did get the wood part so it's not all lost.

dude, trust me here and go with varvatos(not vintage)...its dark, mysterious, and your friends wont likely be wearing it and ladies dig it.

    a few different ideas:

cdg kyoto: woody and incense, it's got a little mystery about it but would never smell old.

intimately beckham for men (or the night version): the orriginal has a great classic, fresh, masculine smell, while the night version has this fantastic sweet coconut milk thing going on. normally i'm not a big fan of celebrity scents, but i enjoy both of these quite a lot.

montale black aoud: dark and sexy? this is like taking an uzi to a knife fight.
current favourites: guerlain vetiver, trumper eucris, adp colonia
latest swag: cdg man2, lolita lempicka au masculin
next buys: keiko mecheri oliban, michael by michael kors

Hmmm, well except for the leathery part, I would say you should at least try Basala by Shiseido.

    here's a younger basenoters opinion . . .

i think you either don't know what you really want or the basenoters' opinions are going to be a bit 'old man smelling' for you. no offense guys, but i think Bois du Portugal, Basala, Antaeus, and Santal Noble might be pushing the envelope for a newer member - don't get me wrong they def fit his description, but i think he may want something with a younger edge to it and something that conjures up the image of a certain sophistication as opposed to the direct smell of the leather sofa in that image. my suggestions are . . .

    Paul Smith London
    CDG Kyoto
    Gucci Pour Homme or Rush
    A*Men
    Bulgari Black
    Costume National Intense
    Creed Himalaya
    Cartier Must Pour Homme

But on me... it lasts only such a short time... 3 hours max. It might be necessary to try some lotion first when using that one!

I cannot think of a Creed that fits the bill.

Have you sampled either Chanel Antaeus or Salvador Dali pour Homme? Montale Cuir d'Arabie also comes to mind.
