They are both excellent, but I prefer the original Declaration.
Which one do you prefer? So far, I'm leaning towards getting the Essence version.

They are both excellent, but I prefer the original Declaration.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost
I prefer the regular Declaration as well.
This is Ellena's favorite also of all the fragrances he has created.
When I smell Terre d'Hermes and Bigarade Concentree, I see their older sibling, Declaration, looking at them and smiling; knowing all the while he helped them to be what they are.
the top notes in the original declaration really hit u cuz the cumin, if that'll turn u off get the essence

In one review someone put declaration instead in the marine category. It smells like fresh cool dew (alittle similar to Aqua di Gio actually).Someone else find it "modern and mainstream fresh, airy and marine."
Another one said Declaration smells like green and earthy body odor.
Where are the similarities to Terre d´Hermes ?
"Wow, I've never smelled anything like that before."
I prefer Declaration Essence, it's more spicy, less flowery and airy.
If you smell Terre d'Hermes and Declaration together... you will notice the similarities... even if you don't know anything on perfumery. It's like seeing two Van Gogh's works. You can realize they were made by the same person.

I think I prefer the regular Declaration. I have a bottle of the Essence, my brother has the regular. The Essence a heaviness that pushes the cumin into even more dirty territory-- it interrupts the balance and pushes it a bit too far into BO land. I never got the connection myself, but once I hugged a girl while wearing Declaration Essence (not long after showering as well) and she was a bit put off by it-- I think she thought I had BO (she liked all my other frags and gave me lots of compliments). So that ruined Essence for me. Too bad because the bottle is cool-- I had to buy Essence because it had a cool blue/green bottle.
The Bois Bleu version I found to be quite awful. It smells very clammy. Makes me nauseous.
Apologies for bumping this topic.. but does the Essence de Declaration actually have a heart logo at the front of the bottle? I smelled this today and find it really similar to something which i have smelled before (only realizing that its TdH on my way home)
I have Declaration but had to get the L' Essence - it is that rare case of a flanker that is better than without losing the "essence" of the original. I recomend L' Essence de Declaration.
I like the original, but I love Essence.
See here for some pictures:
I like Essence. Once I get past the cumin BO smell the woods are beautiful and I love it. But the B.O. smell is there. It makes it hard for me to buy
"As you walk down the fairway of life you must smell the roses, for you only get to play one round."
Original. But both are great. I don't know what it is but I think the original is a bit fresher.
I can't think of another scent where all of the flankers are still quite good. Three branches on the tree, bois Blue, L'Essence, and Genereuse all unmistakably Declaration, all different. A breath of woods for any season, I suppose.
there is a B.O note in Essense which made me return it, try before you buy
Have owned both and both are very good. It's close, but I prefer the regular/original version. I've never noticed a 'BO note' in Declaration. (Then again, I love Eau d'Hermes!)
I prefer the regular version's topnotes, which is why I purchased it over the Essence version.
I prefer the regular version.
They're both great, but I prefer the L'Essence version by a long shot.
Someone tried Declaration shower-gel? What do you think of it?
Oslo, you bumped a 3 year old thread to ask about shower gel?
I have the gel... nothing special about it, seems like any other scented gel.
Both are grand, but the essence version has that extra something
declaration not similar to acqua di gio, not at all
I have now bought Essence. I thought I liked the original, but that was before I tried the Essence. It`s great stuff!
I have now used Essence couple of days. I like it very much, and IMO it`s more smooth and refined, and lacks the sharpness of the regular. -But on my skin I think the sillage and stayingpower are quite low..
-Which one of the regular and Essence do you think has the best sillage and longevity? Maby I just have a "nose-fatigue" ;-)
I prefer the original too, the Essence is over-bearing, I had it, bought it buy mistake in fact not realising what I was bidding on on Ebay (my bad, should have checked the picture of the bottle more clearly). In the end I couldn't live with the fragrance and sold it.
In a world where people smell bad, it is the personal responsibility of every Basenoter to improve the world one SotD at a time...
Both are fantastic.....I prefer the original!!!
I own both, but it seems that the sillage and stayingpower are much weaker on the essence version than the regular. Anybody else has this experience? Is this the case with the Essence version of Must de Cartier also?
I love Essence but don't like the original.
For those of you that like these fragrances, for which occasion(s) do you think they work best? I think all occasions are perfect.
Very much prefer the original. I find most of the Declaration flankers I've tried rather a little bit disappointing (Bois especially, undecided on Essence, it's ok but I'd rather wear the original and there is something about it that can grate a little. Eau Genereuse I quite like so far). Shame, as I hoped I would enjoy them as much as the Kouros flankers who are all lovely.
And, like Indie_Guy, I was asked by a woman today if I did not shower (I did) so I shall blame it on the Essence b.o. I was wearing!
I agree also hednic!!!
Just sprayed my Declaration sample on my hand. The one I tried before was Declaration Essence, this one doesn't stink of BO too much. It's actually quite enjoyable.
Both are great, but Essence is more woody-spicy and longer lasting if I remember correctly. I liked the Cologne as well.
