Default Do you really care if your SO wears expensive scents?

My girlfriend is not so much into fragrances as I am. I sometimes give her a couple of vials and samples of niche frags, just so she can train her nose. However, when she wears them, she just smells nice. On the other hand when she wears the cheap 'stuff' (Adidas Moves, Jovan Musc, Tabu, Mambo, etc) she makes me return to my first language and drool... Apachurro!!! Pedazo de bombón!
I wonder what does that tell about me...

    Are your experiences any different?

There are some mass market perfumes that make me go weak in the knees. There are some niche ones (but by all means not all of them!), too.

Maybe you are giving your gf some scents that are intellectually interesting to you but don't have the same emotional impact?

When you say currently hunting Antaeus, does that me trying to locate a bottle? If yes. then you can buy Antaeus at any Chanel Boutique. It's $70.00 for 100ml.

Have her wear whatever she's comfortable with, and what you enjoy on her. Hell, in my opinion nothing beats Britney Spears Fantasy or Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue on a girl. Especially Fantasy, it's cheap, but really gets the juices flowing And while I'd be impressed if a girl wore Creed or Malle or Montale, the cheap stuff really gets me going.

I've had previous 'experience' with Fantasy and I second the opinion.

Well, this has to be one of the more surreal (or is it ironic?) threads I've seen in a while.

Is this the equivalent of a chef from a 5-star restaurant skulking out for a BK Double? Fragrance slumming? Not that I'm judging, mind you! I appreciate skank as much as the next guy; it's just that everyone is so... enthusiastic about it. And then we all wonder why cheap girlie perfumes fly off the shelves [shakes head in resignation].

I suppose the effect works for the opposite sex too - Old Spice and English Leather aren't at the top of the leader board for 'nuthin. And dismissers of Kouros, the King of Skank - take note!

Lightbulb Re: Do you really care if your SO wears expensive scents?

Hey I thought this thread deserves a bump. It could complement that other thread about 'expensive-smelling' fragrances.

On the right person, could a 'cheapie' smell like a million bucks? So far that hasn't been my experience. The poorly constructed stuff often has a harsh veneer that grates on my senses...

As long as she smells nice it does not matter to me. She thinks Victorias Secret is "high end" and gravitates towards that.
Five that I am enjoying right now

    1) Sel de Vetiver by The Different Company
    2) Spiritueuse Double Vanille by Guerlain
    3) Bois des Iles by Chanel
    4) Devin by Aramis
    5) Coromandel by Chanel

It doesn't matter to me what my wife wears.

Bad stuff always ends up being bad stuff.

Most "cheap" fragrances can have a nice moment, but, with time into its drydown, it show us its true face. nasty and chemical.

Maybe i'm becoming more and more demanding, but most frags i smell when i go out smell just bad (around here most people use, not only cheap colognes, but expensive crap as well). Some people bath in synthethic bomb 1 Million (with its good top notes but nasty drydown), in Angel clones, you know, non cheap designers that are plain bad. Zero variety, almost everybody wears the same 3-4 colognes (boss bottled, 1 million, hugo,ADG, some givenchy, the same with women, angel imitations, very irresistible, or calvin klein).

And it's a shame because there are a lot of good and not so expensive frags out there.

Now, when someone smells good i notice even if i don't know what he/she is wearing. The problem is that my nose is becoming a bit hard to please XD

Sounds like my wife. I did get her a bottle of Lolita Lempicka L and she really likes that, but for the most part she wears either Jessica Simpson Fancy or Amor, Amor which does smell great on her. Her #1 favorite on me is Tommy Hilfiger. Panties will drop

I don't care what my (hypothetical) SO would wear, irrespective if mass-market/drugstore, designer or niche, as longs as she smells good

Not at all. As long as she smells nice, that's good enough for me. Currently my girl wears Clinique Happy and Britney Spears Curious. She also likes a lot of the cheaper scents on me. A few of her favorites are Curve, Ungaro III, and Fierce. Of course she also likes GIT and Aventus so she's just going by what smells good!

I care insofar as I am a bit sensitive to strongly synthetic/chemical smells, so I prefer it that my partner wears something not necessarily expensive, but fairly natural smelling. That's why I gave him Balle de Match for his birthday.

Despite the Amouages, Serge Lutens and other niche and classic scents i buy for Wifey, and which she adores, we have an unwritten pact that Paco Rabanne's Black XS will never be absent from her wardrobe. And Black XS smells divine on her!

It all depends on the cheapie! Some designers scents are cheaply composed bur marvelous smelling anyway. It's not big deal, as long as the couple both enjoy the smell. And remember, some niches actually smell... not good, nor expensive!

Fragrance is passion for us and even the SO cannot share that passion.

Don't try to change the person you love by trying to brainwash if she/he does not like perfumes. We can only be happy in our own pleasure.

We can *try* to buy scents for the SO, but if they don't share the enthusiasm, let it be.

you won't Believe how much compliments does swiss army gets, and it is a really cheap fragrance

It does depend on the cheapie. Some ultra low - end scent that smells like a bad hairspray will always smell bad. On the other hand, you can find some great stuff for low low wal mart prices. Of course, if you're REALLY into someone, you may be more willing to tolerate less great smelling stuff. Cognitive dissonance?

But then there are all the over-the-top stories a few BNers tell, where women throw themselves at his feet when he wears GIT, Back to Black, Aventus, etc. Of course, those guys could just be making it up.
