I know how the French actually translates, but it does sound a bit silly to an English-speaker.

I think MPG should do away with the genders and just put all of their scents in the same color bottles and call them all Unisex. I feel like they, of all people - should know better. Its just absurd, anymore.

A fragrance search tuns up no other brand using the name Turquie. Obviously no English speakers in the marketing department at MPG.

The scent sounds interesting. I thought Grain de Plaisir, Fraicheur Muskissime, and others were already labeled unisex, though?

No, their website is clearly divided by mens and womens fragrances. MPG classifies Grain de Plaisir as a mens and Fraicheur Muskissime as a womens. Link here.

They've always been gendered masculine/feminine on the official MPG website, but I think the BN directory designations are actually more accurate.

Labeling shmabeling : lots of MPG scents are effectively unisex - in fact more so than in many other lines. Just consider Bahiana, Ambre Precieux, Iris Bleu Gris, Jardin du Nil, Baime, and Fraicheur Muskissime. Now Parfum d'Habit and Route du Vetiver might be a whole different story, but I even remember hearing from a female Basenoter who enjoyed wearing the first of these!

A fun exercise is to head over to MUA and read what the (predominantly) ladies there have to say about fragrances. It's sometimes telling to read their opinions vis-a-vis the opinions here. Often quite different value judgments are placed on fragrances in spite of the similar analyses / breakdowns of them. They review many of the "men's" MPGs as though they were unisex. Rarely do they refer to gender labeling. Something tells me us men have more hangups about that.

A rather flowing review of Bois de Turquie was posted on The Scented Salamander yesterday - link here: http://www.mimifroufrou.com/scenteds...antier_bo.html

Love this part of the review,'...The beauty of this perfume is such that it is able to provoke a genuine physical aesthetic emotion of poignancy and even suffering in the wearer. One feels strangled at the throat, tears are ready to pour and one attempts not to give in to the strength of one's emotions...'

    This review is utterly hilarious!

It's also full of mis-statements and inaccuracies, but I'm not going to get into them here. Too much like shooting goldfish in a barrel.

Does sound like an interesting frag, though.

I don't think English is her first language so it usually sounds a bit desperate to impress.

Look back at her Chandler Burr interviews and tell me it's the same person conducting the interview.

the bloogger for the scented salamander went to and studied at Harvard?

LoL yea, the Scented Salamander reviews are a little too much to take in at times and sometimes I fall asleep before I reach the end of the review...and for some reason all the reviews at that site come out smelling like positive recommendations

On one hand you have Bush with his total inability to complete a simple sentence in english and then on the other hand you have these drastic wordy overflowing reviews which look like they were ripped out of a Shakespeare play...can't believe both are products of Harvard

Still, the SS is a blog which is usually at the forefront of fragrance news.

    You're absolutely correct.

I don't lurk on POL. I had been posting fairly regularly when one of my pics was censored..... lets not do this here.

Anyway I only very occasionaly post my SOTD on POL.

My yiddish is weak. I don't know for Kochleffelswhat that means.

we really should take this to PM's since I have a bad habit of drifting way off topic.

"Bois de Turquie" means "Woods of Turkey" referring to Turkey: a country in between Western Europe and the Midle East.

I am very enthusiastic about this fragrance as I am Turkish and the notes remind me of my hometown which is in the Aegean Coast (Aegean Sea is the see between Turkey and Greece if anyone wonders).

I e-mailed them and received notice from their U.S. distributors that only 18 bottles were supplied--but no sample vials--and that Aedes should have them available. There is still no mention of the scent on the MPG site and neither on the Aedes site.
Anyone have any news on this?
I know a lot of us are eagerly awaiting this release.

This fragrance should never be heavily applied.

    It works best when misted.
