Laura Biagiotti - never replied to email about samples.

Frederick Malle - did the 'find your scent' thing. They sent me 'Noir Epices' and 'Vetivier Extraordinaire' in reply to that.

Divine - I sent email asking about L'Homme Sage and L'Homme de Coeur and they sent me samples of all 5 of their fragrances.

Oh, and I stopped by the Hermes boutique. I had gone through all of my other ambers at least once and was going to re-test Amber Narguile. This time they had a sample vial. What a big one, too! It's about three times as long as a regular vial. My only gripe is that they narrow the neck, and I can't really get the juice out (I was going to decant into an atomizer).

    Hey Pas2iche,

Could you name 6 or 7 of montales fragrances that I should request to find a few I like?

Default Re: getting free company samples

I have had no response from Montale or L'Artisan so far (after a week or so), but keeping fingers crossed maybe something will come.

Meanwhile Jo Malone have sent me a 1.5ml sample of Grapefruit, and two scent strips of Pomegranet Noir and Nectarine Blossom.

So far I've been lucky with Lubin, Malle, Divine, Ormonde Jayne and Jo Malone. Goutal sent an email saying that they only give samples with purchases.

When emailing these companies for samples is it better to include the list of frags you wanna sample or should you just ask for random samples? Seem to me it might be better to mention a number of the scents you would like to try.

Yeah definitely mention the scents you want, because you'll always usually get more than if you just ask for samples. Plus you may not even get what you actually wanted.

I realize this is really late in the game, but its really frustrating to see people getting positive responses back from places and yet failing to share the email address you used to contact the company.

If I might request/suggest that if you DO get positive results back from a company, please share the email address you used or share the URL of the form you filled out to request your samples?

I'd also like to suggest that we set up some sort of collection or database of contact info for these companies.

    Thanks,

    My Reply:

    "Hello,

Don't you think it is a bad idea to not send out samples? I was planning on buying Jo Malone fragrances, but since I have no way to test it, I will look to another company to spend money on fragrances. In truth, not sending out samples is just a bad business practice. I hope your company will learn better business practice. It's a shame too, because I was looking forward to some of the scents your company has for sale on your website. Oh well.

    Sincerely,
    Ben"

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I emailed Jo Malone asking specifically about the Grapefruit fragrance, and they did send me a 1.5ml sample within a week or so.

My way is always to express interest in one specific fragrance. I think you are more likely to get a response that way than if you simply ask for "samples". Sometimes if you are lucky they will send extra stuff as well. For example I asked Ormonde Jayne for Ormonde Man, but they also sent me Isfarkand.

Bond No. 9 sends samples as long as you pay the shipping and handling. Not a bad deal, but I still wont do it. Amouage is sending samples now and I recontacted Jo Malone interested in one fragrance to see if it works. Now we play the waiting game.....

Living in NYC is not so great if you wanna get free samples because most fragrance places have stores here and they want you to just go to their store.
    F. Malle for example will not give in. I did get great stuff from Diptique and Divine so far. So bascially if they don't have a store near you they will send (on the other hand Hermes is sending samples of all their mens line and they have a store in Manhattan) so you never know.

Last Thursday I wrote to L'Artisan and asked for some samples. I didn't think they will send anything because after I wrote them the email I checked again on thier country list to see if they have a retailer and I saw that one showed up; this morning I found in my mail box a small envelope in which there were 3 sample vials of 1 ml: Premiere Figuier Extreme, Mure et Musc Extreme and Voleur de Roses. Too bad Voleur de Roses vial was broken in transit, but that's not L'Artisan fault. Well, I think L'Artisan is truly an exceptional house if it bothers to send samples even if you have a retailer in your town.

Peace, don`t bother with Hermes...They won`t send samples to Finland due their strange logical thinking. (they said to me that since in Finland there is no retailer, I can`t have the samples. No matter even when I wrote couple of times back, trying to explain that even when Finland is kind of "wide place in the road", I sure can order things here from some net-shops...

Hmmm, I emailed Mugler over 6 weeks ago (customer.service@mugler.net) and have not heard anything from them at all.

Bond No. 9 just referred me to a London store (Harvey Nichols, far from my workplace or home), which was not very helpful.

L'Artisan have not responded to my request for Fou D'Absinthe, since I sent an email about one month ago.

Goutal sent a very snooty reply saying they won't send samples, and suggested I purchase a bottle! Sorry but that sort of nonsense puts me off buying anything from their range.

As I mentioned above, still waiting for Montale, after nearly a month.

The good news is that Caron have emailed me to say they are sending a sample of Yatagan :-)

Other generous companies who have kindly sent me stuff include Malle, Trumper, Ormonde Jayne, Jo Malone, Acqua di Parma, Divine, Lubin and Diptyque. Good for them, they have encouraged my custom, I have already bought products from Divine, Diptyque and Jo Malone, and will be visiting Ormonde Jayne soon to buy the superb Isfarkand.

Ormond Jayne are so cool and their scent absolutely rocks. Thanks for your suggestions re the Mugler and Bond. I'm sorry you had no luck with Trumper or Malle. Strange.

It all seems a bit random and arbitrary. Sometimes people get generous amounts of samples, or one or two samples while yet others receive nothing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed about Montale, after reading reports on another thread about them sending out huge samples of 10ml and 20ml. But it's been a month since I contacted them. Hmmm.

Does it depend on the particular person who is on duty to answer the emails at the time you contact the company? Just a guess. Or perhaps we have to be very patient and wait, and wait.... Who knows!

I actually called T. Mugler. I think I found the number in a similar thread and the lady sent me everything I asked for (A Men and TMC). That may be another key, calling instead of writing. If they hang the phone up they know that you'll never buy anything from them again. If they don't respond well it must have gotten lost with the dozens of other emails. I'll wait a few weeks then I might start calling.

Day 1 and I recieved a response for Trumpers. They are sending sample vials. First response.

Edit: Hermes responded and they are sending two of the samples I requested also. They said 7-10 days.

Edit: Caron responded and is sending 3 samples.

Edit: Malle responded and offered 2 samples (neither of which I wanted, but still accepted).

I wrote to L'Artisan as well and they never responded. I recieved the samples I requested from them yesterday. So I'm assuming they'll just send you whatever you requested in a timely manner without letting you know it's on the way so it's kind of like a surprise, if you will.

    BTW, L'Artisan is amazing.

Just did some investigation online and found out that Barneys may be able to ship some samples. They are going to put me into contact with the American Sales Rep from Serge Lutens.

If things work out I'll give you my contact numbers.

I received an e-mail from L'Artisan asking to sample some of the fragrances I didn't purchase from them 2 months ago and have yet to receive a sample...I'm going to e-mail Montale though, cause after purchasing two FINE frags from them or actually Vijay (Fougeres Marine and Black Oud) I am VERY happy with those two...fantastic frags on either side of the spectrum...I'm very interested in the Oud Lime, Sandalsliver, and the other Lime frag...can't remember the name at this point...

Caron impressed me...I wrote asking about some samples and got a response almost immediately, it seemed, asking for my address. They're sending everything I asked for.

Interestingly enough, I wrote Mugler asking about the Angel Men Summer Flash and I guess the rep didn't remember me (not surprised, since she does do other things than sit around thinking about ME), but she offered to send me another Mugler sample package.

    I'm torn...should I take it? ::
