    Today was a banner day!

Truefitt and Hill responded to my second email and said a package is forthcoming.

Despite not responding to my actual email, Divine came through with a lovely package that included a 1.7ml sample of everything they make, a lovely note, and a copy of their most recent order sheet with a pre-addressed envelope, should I choose to order something, all contained in a very lovely little parchment folder.

Plus I got my samples of Jaipur Homme and Crave, which are now added to my sales list.

All in all, it was a great day to bring in the mail.

I think if a company is good enough to send you samples you should not sell em! dont think that they do not read boards like this!

The companies that have sent me samples i have liked , i will buy from them! its good customer service that should be returned with good consumer service!

I have also sent an email thanking them, and my opinions, also what i intend to buy! maybe its because im english

I don't sell the samples I get from companies, Mark.

I sell the samples which I have purchased in bulk.

Its not worth the time or effort to put up a notice that I'm selling one single sample of something. Besides, I asked for it for me! No one else can have that one.

Recently recieved a package from Trumper's....it took a while, but they mentioned that in their e-mail. They sent me 5 or 6 samples of cologne...but also 3 shaving creams which I love....Rose, Almond, and West Indian Limes....all three are great...I've been lucky enough to get away with a great shave without a brush, but I can imagine how nice the brush would be...definately a coming purchase...

In response to Hirch....I received probably the best sample package one could ask for...not only about 15 samples of their colognes....they sent a sample of their ultimate comfort shave cream and aftershave balm...it took a little while...but my god...the shave cream alone was worth the wait...and the aftershave balm really is a soothing product...absolutely wonderful. Actually it's a toss up between them and Trumper's as to which shaving products I'm going to purchase...both are about the same in my opinion...FANTASTIC!!

What a gentlemanly thing to do Mark .

Now coming from the other end of the spectrum, I have sent out samples to a lot of BN members and others out of Basenotes. Most of these I have sent out at my expense, even internationally. Not complaining about this, I consider this a cost of doing business.

I don't want to rant about this, but about 40% of the people don't even bother to acknowledge that they even received the samples. Funny thing is most of the people that don't acknowledge this, are the ones that get the samples free.

I'm attempting to get a sample of Sandflowers from Montale, Poivre, Tabac Blonde and Impact from Caron, and the ones I'm most excited for Ormonde Man and Isfarkand from Ormonde Jayne. Based on what I've read I'll be surprised if both of the Ormondes fail to reach my top 10. Caron and Ormonde Jayne promptly emailed me back and are sending samples. There is a delay on the Ormondes (when a company runs out of sample vials, you know they are really independent) which sucks because I can't wait to try those. No response yet from Montale. Just wondering, how are the Birch colognes?

A big thumbs up to Parfumerie Generale, from whom I requested Coze (PG No. 02). They've sent me that, plus their Iris Taizo (PG No. 14). These are rich, quite luxurious perfumes. The Coze, based on canapa sativa oil (cannabis apparently), is the more masculine of the two, but both very wearable I think.

The fragrances discussed in this thread all seem to come from France, Italy and England. I realize those may be the countries where the powerhouses of perfume are, but aren't there other countries with decent perfume industries? Japan? Turkey? Thailand? India? I don't know - just asking. (Japan, for example seems to produce a lot of pretty exotic incense.)
Also, when I refer to the basenotes directory: http://www.basenotes.net/directory there are many more houses than the ones covered in this thread, although I'm only a newbie here and not an expert on fragrance at all.

Nippon Kodo sends samples with every order made through their websites, but they don't have anything wearable. Shoyeido (USA) site in Boulder, CO might be willing to send a sample of ground incense powder (wearable and very nice) with an order or just on its own. They have a nice staff there. Also, L'Erbolario (Lodi, Italy) has a USA website and they have sample packs and "gift boxes" for very reasonable prices. They are excellent quality. They might send some specific samples out for free, as well.

yes acqua di parma are great - great product great service - got a customer for life here.

    Now Truefitt and Hill -

said they would send me samples months ago. after about three months i had an email saying that my original one had got caught up in their spam system and they would ensure i got samples but ....still nothing months after that. meanwhile trumpers samples have arrived and i have placed two orders (and chances are I will continue to order, I really want some eucris and gft).

so samples work and bad companies lose business.

Fico di Amalfi and Mandorlo di Sicilia are my fave AdP fragrances. The Fico is so cheerful and summery with the bright fig with orange and flowery aspects, and can be easily worn by either men or women. Mandorlo has that lovely calming almond aroma!

Good for AdP that they are generous with samples. The scents speak for themselves. I also have a bit of a "conscience" about it, since I have had their samples from shops, as well as the email request, so have tried them a few times (and loved them). They are on my "to buy" list.

Yes, exactly..This is a good proof that such service actually pays back for the companies...

As for the scents, I must say the Irises disappointed me a little, maybe because they were way too feminine for a guy to wear, but Fico and Assoluta are absolutely wonderful. It has always irritated me that Colonia turns sour on me in the drydown, but in Assoluta it stays with that perfect drydown..
Haven't tried Mandorlo yet, but it smells like something I might love from the nozzle..

Sorry for making this into a review:P

My apologies for the shameless nature of this first post, but there was a great discussion thread a while back where everyone posted their experiences requesting samples from manufacturers. One thing most of them do though (Floris, Frederic Malle...) if you live near a big city like NYC, Chicago or whatever they will just tell you to
go to their store in the city and get samples there.

Aqua Di Parma sent me one sample the other day but the weird was that the sample came from Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan and I live in Queens (about 10 minute away). So you never know.

I don't think that $3 is too bad if they send a decent number of samples.

They told me they would send two. I'll probably bite for it.

Today I sent emails to Divine, Caron, L'Artisan, Frederic Malle, Trumper, Ormond Jayne, and Truefit & Hill. I will report back...

Thank you for posting such excellent information in this thread.

Actually its $6 with how horrible the exchange rate is, I think. I am pretty sure it was in pounds.

I filled out the questionaire at Editions de Parfums. Here's what they said! One day reply, btw.

Thank you for your interest in our Editions de Parfums.

After reading your today's questionnaire, I think you could also love "Noir Epices". Nevertheless, if you were to pay us a visit, I would also show you "Iris Poudre".

But if you are too far from one of our stores, please leave
    us your address.

    Best regards

Also wrote to Ormonde Jayne and they wrote back within a day with following message:

Thank you for your interest in Ormonde Jayne. We only have one boutique, exclusive to London’s Old Bond street and our online shop. We ship to America every day so sending to you will be no problem. I shall put the samples you requested in the post this evening.

    Best Wishes

Trumper, as others have noted here, wants 3 pounds before they will send samples overseas.

I got negative replies from Amouge, who said I should purchase samples via their website.

Ixnayed by Caron, who said I should visit their store, as I live in NYC Maybe I can get samples at the store!

Will follow up as I get more info
