Default A scent to wear on formal occasion?

I am looking for a scent to wear on formal occasions, where a suit or tux is required. What scents does everyone wear on formal occasions? and what would you recommend as well? I would also like for the scent to remain somewhat youthful. thanks

No offense but these are not youthful. I don't think that the cologne necessarily has to be expensive or special to be classy.

    I think of:
    Gucci pour Homme

    Agree with:
    Colonia Assoulta (great scent!!)

Why wouldn't they be? I'm 25 and I love BdP.

I'm pretty new to fragrances myself and have been meaning to ask a question like this myself. Since you've already done it I'll just ask here rather than ask the exact question.

My only difference is that I'd be choosing from the following frags:bulgari black, B*men, D&G ph, and calvin klein man.

You have 5 years on me and I own a bottle myself. It is not the mainstream view of youthful though. Dozens of threads in the past have discussed how it has that "old" smell to it. I like it but it is not for everyone if you are specifically looking for something youthful, that's all.

I understand but maybe (and I say this with my limited experience) there isn't such a thing as youthful (i.e. fresh?) and formal, then?

I think that Gucci Envy and Dolce and Gabbana Pour Homme are both youthful fragrances that will fit well in a suit. I'm not saying these frags are representative of youth, but I think the younger crowd can easily 'pull it off.' The only problem is they are somewhat popular, and occasionally oversprayed in clubs/parties. But given the right threads, I think they will add the extra umph.

I think that the Egoiste and Antaeus and Heritage might be tougher to pull off unless you have the maturity in your attitude and confidence as well. They would all be great in a formal setting, but are not youthful.

For reference, I interpret youthful to mean the younger, less serious, 'sporty', less sophisticated demeanor, more carefree. I sometimes wish I were more youthful again.

    YSL L'homme

I received this as a gift and associated it with just such a purpose, although it works fine casually as well. Its a bit more serious than the main stream frags, but still has youthfulness to it.

Otherwise youre probably better off going with something heavier, like a tobacco base or something. I've never tried BdP (though i plan to), so I cant comment on it, but out of all that I own, I would either go with YSL's l'homme or bond's riverside drive.

I'm 24 and I love BdP. But I find I have trouble "pulling it off." It just isn't me.

I like formal citruses. Eau Sauvage is lovely, as well as Acqua di Parma with its trace of rose.

Then again, I find a spritz of Vetiver on a dress shirt goes a long way.

I am a big fan of the Guerlain House, as well as Jean-Paul Guerlain. I own all his male fragrances with the exception of Heritage. I've heard it smells a lot like Bois du Portugal, though with less lavender accords? Maybe I'm mistaken. I love BdP but I could never justify the price in having a bottle, so I sold one of my bottles to an attorney friend of mine. As a school teacher, I don't get that many formal occasions. But it does make my wife weak in the knees.

Armani Eau pour Homme, while it is very formal and conservative, it's actually so brilliantly simple that it still can smell fresh, clean- cut, nearly youthful and always modern, in my opinion.

I absolutely agree with EnVyus about the BDP. Its definately not a scent for someone young. If you're 25 and you like BdP, good for you and nice tastes. However, it is not something I would recommend for anyone under 30. A younger formal scent would definately emcompass some citrus much like Bvlgari, Narcisco Rodriguez, or even Chanel (Egoiste)... not Guerlain's... and certainly not Creed BdP.

Now ,while these are my faves big time, I don't know that they are youthful
However, tuxedos aren't youthful, for that matter. And I'd say nothing says "tux" like Van Cleef or Heritage.

Gosh, I think Heritage is the best one. We have Habit Rouge, Heritage, Vetiver, and Derby. Heritage is the one I beg my husband to wear. It is especially appropriate for formal occasions, too. You should get some.

I think Richard James for men is a good choice.Modern and fresh without being too old and stuffy.
I also love Equipage by Hermes but it is a little spicy for some tastes.
If it was a warm climate I would choose Creed Royal Water,A pleasant cologne with a hint of formality,in my opinion.

If you are young, than whatever you wear will be youthful by association. In fact, I think that a young person looking to be taken seriously (as one would be at a formal event) would be well-served by a more mature fragrance, as it silently conveys that the wearer is a person of sophisticated tastes, regardless of chronological age.
