Default How similar are Narciso Rodriguez for Him and Dior Fahrenheit?

Are these two any similar... or they aren't even remotely similar?. Both of them contain violet notes (violet leaf).

As you all would probably know by now, the store I buy from never has any damn testers so naturally I can't test before buying. I just wondered whether these two are similar in any vein because of certain common notes they share.... can anyone who has sampled/used these both comment please?

I do have Fahrenheit and I love it, and don't want to buy another frag that might be similar to Fahrenheit.

NR is much more mossy and sensual. I would say it has more in common with Rive Gauche than Fahrenheit. Also, the way it goes on, is the way it stays. Whereas, Fahrenheit changes quite a bit from its initial blast of petrol to its violet dry down..

I only tried Fahrenheit a couple of times from a sample, but own NRfH. My recollection of Fahrenheit is that it bears little resemblance to NRfH. The latter is much cleaner and fresher with none of the petrol note that Ruggles mentioned. NRhH is indeed linear, although the violet does dissipate over time, leaving a solid yet subdued musk note in its wake. NRfH has become one of my favorites and wear it at least a couple of times a week.

Absolutely no similarity. NR is a very smooth combo of musc, amber and patchouli and is very subtle. Any violet is almost non-existent. DF is one of the most in-your-face petroleum type frags ever created and I just don't get the comparison. Any violet is again very distant.

    Thanks Ruggles, Snafoo and stuigi

Apart from these two, one other violet-y frag I could think of was Burberry Touch and I found Touch to be very close to Fahrenheit, just pretty powdery.

I hope the differences between NRfH and Fahrenheit are enough to warrant owning both.

You do not need to worry javagreen - NRFH and Fahrenheit smell nothing alike.

That is not saying you will like NRFH - that may or may not be. Have you smelled Xeryus by Givenchy? Many (including me) say it smells like NRFH.

reviews have faintly compared it with the original Jacomo....i also remember someone quoting that the initial blast was liek that of smelling wet concrete and thereby launchin in a modern fougere which has tht "smelled it before" kinda accord then quickly dissipitating in to some thin very unique...the above quotes are a mix of all the responses i have come across here in BN earlier...i have never ever sniffed NR

    Not at all.

To me Narciso Rodriguez smells like Stetson Black with a bottom of synthetic musk, the kind to which I'm practically anosmic, so I had to try to oil version to find out what the hype surrounding this frag was all about.

I can see why people like it tho, but I'll pass on this one.

To me NR is more akin to Grey Flannel. They share a certain greeness and the same stridency...

to me, NRfH is extremely one-demensional and interesting compared to the twists and turns of farenheit. the later has proved good enough that i've recently bought a 100ml (3.4 ounce) bottle, whereas i wouldn't even spray narcisso on my wrist in a department store...

Oh yes, I'm not sure how I missed this one. I only remembered this much later and was going to add it to the thread.

This morning a colleague on entering my office remarked: "Oh, Fahrenheit!" He's a Fahrenheit junkie, but I suspect it's out of his price range these days. I had applied about five shots of NR for Him, and he couldn't believe that it wasn't Fahrenheit! There are definite similarities. Perhaps more evident in the sillage than up close.

I think there are definite similarities - I have a bottle of Narcisso for Him. The dry violet accords make them cousins of a sort. When I first smelled HRfH I immediately thought, "A more evolved version of Farenheit!" Farenheit was my everyday scent back in the early 90's and was a favorite - so I remember it well. On closer examination, Farenheit is more at home with asphalt and the streets whereas Narcisso is softer and more forest friendly I guess.

For me NR is much more modern than Farenheit.....Two different products Javagreen....Faranhiet is more comon in Chile, well....is a classic.....safer......great longevity and sillage.....I prefer NR.

NRfH and F share a violet note. Everything else is different.

NRfH and GF share a more similar character. (Violet, Patchouli )vs. (Violet Lavender) respectively.

    i own both...

NR smells like a mossy block of concrete at 6am in a New Zealand forest....
FHRT smells like Freshly Cut grass mixed with Petroleum from a Gas Pump...

Farenheit develops a distinct honeysuckle note on the headnote- and then a few hours later- it morphs in to a powdery blend of something, i never could place a finger on

NR on the other hand is a much more subdued Grey Flannel- a little watered down grey flannel- sprayed through a cloud of cement dust- thats NR for me...

there is a distinct dust note in NR- the finer kind that gets into the back of your throat...

the twain being two different blends altogether- I must say tha NR has got a lot less longevity compared to Farenheit

    hope this helps

I think NR is similar to both of Fahrenheit and Xerius. But more modern than them. Also a very violety synthetic scent is Dunhil Fresh which smells nice IMO.

The first time I tried NRfH I immediately thought it smelled like a tame Grey Flannel, but with some spice, like Burberry Touch.

    I agree

I started this thread in April. I have since gotten a hold of and gotten rid of NRfH. It's quite horrible IMO.

Narciso Rodriguez smells like mold growing on a flower...

Fahrenheit smells like gasoline spilled on a garden...

I agree with the others who say Fahrenheit is WAAAAY better.

Reviving this thread. I noticed a definite similarity between NRFH and Fahrenheit, and disagree with stuigi that violet leaf is "in the background with these" -- comparing with my little bottle of VL absolute, it's obviously a star player in both of them.

I do smell the similarity with Xeryus, mainly the musk and florals, though NRFH is a lot less spicy. Regarding Grey Flannel, NRFH is missing the blaring, soapy ionones so I don't really get the connection as much.
