Default SotD Sunday 6th April 2008

Past twelve already. Maybe a good idea to start the SotD thread.

Thanks to my dear Brotha I think I have finaly found a rose scent I can really, really love.

    Andy Tauer's Incense Rosé

Beautiful composition, not too much rose and lots of incense. Happy!!!

    Enjoy your Sunday.

Inspired by Ruggles' verdant photo yesterday (and because the divine ComDiva sent me a generous sample ) am awash in .....

Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia

    Sigh.

When they come into the (flower) shop where I work, tuberoses are anything but "watery and transparent...."...rather heavy and lush and almost close to "rotting" (did I tell you I like black bananas??) perhaps because they're bundled together and not out in the open. Languorous...tropical...indolent. Just love this frag.....

I've got a bowl full of about 200 samples, I was feeling random, so I closed my eyes, stuck my hand in and picked out a vial. It was empty Rose 31 (I've got some on the way, so it's okay!) I did it again and got:
    ANANAS FIZZ
I love it, and would love to find it in this bottle!

Looks like Taolady and I are on the same wavelengths, using scents we've "scent" each other -- Today I am giving a full and proper wearing to Miller Harris Geranium Bourbon.

Notes (according to Luckyscent): cassis berries, lemon geranium, turkish rose.

This is a very interesing one on me, as I get a quick blast of lemony floral that is probably geranium, but it's gone so fast I have trouble defining it, and then the lemony quality stays (very nice), and I am hanging out with an extremely solid though friendly smelling rose. There are more spicy dark notes hinting around the edges of the fragrance, giving me hope for a re-appearance of the geranium with more as the drydown proceeds. Ah! There's a tiny little boozy note!

Geranium Bourbon is a VERY fun one for warmer weather, though I'm still on the fence about whether I need this one in my full-time rotation. I want more geranium!

I am off to a colleague's brunch party today. I never know what to wear for this type of event as it is not entirely social but not exclusively work. The feel is more work than social so I'll be going with the plain dress and low key look after all I'll be stuck sitting with "the boss".

If this was a boss-free event I'd probably go for a big floral like Genvieve, Fracas or Soie Rouge.

Honestly, if the hostess was not one of my favorite people I would skip the whole thing...sit with the boss, indeed.

I'm going with Liu, I think.

Maybe we both need to try: Etro Dianthus (EDT for women 2006)!!!....notes: orange, bourbon geranium, centifolia rose, pink pepper, ginger, carnation, woods, musk, cedar and vanilla.(from BN Directory)

Although dianthus is carnation, more than one reviewer has mentioned the strong geranium presence!!

(Although I must say the MIller Harris behaves totally differently on me! I get boozy, heady, dusty geranium after the slight citrus opening - with just a hint of rose - and it lasts, like, FOREVER!!!!!)

For a rather slow start of the workday I seeked comfort in Omnia.I needed the soft tea notes and spices. Sote is a sample of Opium....And I finally think I'm starting to "grow into" this scent.Tried it some years ago and it felt way too mature on me.Today on the other hand it's gorgeous Incence and treasure chest is what comes to mind.

And now I must add that the drydown on Miller Harris Geranium Bourbon was LOVELY on me. A watery and pepper-ladened geranium note made a definitive appearance, and I really enjoyed this part of the fragrance the best. Still not sure about whether I "need" to plunk down the big bucks for a FB of this one, though... Yes, Tao, let's give the Etro Dianthus a spin! I might even have a sample vial somewhere... ::starts rummaging around in samples drawers:: ... If I'm not back in a few days, send in the rest of the A-Team.

Shalimar Silky Body Mist - I bought it off ebay.co.uk last week. There seems to be quite a few for sale at present for around £10 in tester bottles.
Its a lot stronger than I thought it would be and dries down to a lovely close to the skin scent. It is a very dry oil which is not greasy at all. A good buy all round really!

Today I tried some CB I Hate Perfume Samples:

Mr. Hulot's Holiday (goes on salty and suntan lotion smelling, dries down kind of watery and too sweet for my taste) and...

Black March. Very, very nice - smells like damp earth and leaves, and maybe some green stems...and just a tinge of something sweet.

The notes, according to Luckyscent: "A fresh clean scent composed of rain drops, leaf buds, wet twigs, tree sap, bark, mossy earth and the faintest hint of spring flower bulbs, as pretty and bright as rain drops on black twigs in March."

    Wearing PG Aomassai.

Started off with a blast of vanilla yogurt. Really. Then it went sort of foody, incensey, woody - it reminded me a lot of a candle I got from one of those candle shops in the US (I forget the name but it's a chain - you can buy various scented candles for one price kinda deal). I can't remember the candle it was - it was either pecan pie or cinnamon bun or something like that. Anyway, quite nice as scents go but more of a candle scent than something I want on my skin. Longevity wasn't brilliant.

Long day, hosted a bridal shower brunch which began at 11 a.m. and ended at around 3:30. Although during the night we had some fierce rainstorms go by, the morning cleared up but was very warm so I felt I needed to really feel cool and smell divine so I wore a linen outfit and:

Thanks, the event would have been ok, maybe even lovely, except the boss-o was a pain. He spoke to no one at the table except DH (he requested to sit with us as he thought DH would be "suitable"). Sort of an uncomfortable experience.
