Sultan, Precieuse & Narguile
Thread: Ultimate Amber Thread
Yes, it is also Ambre Russe, Ambre Sultan and L'Ombre Fauve for me.
Sultan, Precieuse & Narguile
Cerutti 1881 Amber

Ambre 114 & Montale's Blue Amber
I love amber! Works very well on my skin. Next targets: Ambre Fetiche and Ambre Russe.
Thanks, Volley, for finally bringing Ambre Fetiche into the discussion! One of my favorites. Amber with a bite!
My Top 10*:
1. Bois des Iles (Chanel)
2. Ubar (Amouage)
3. Pandora (DSH)
4. Miss Dior - vintage (Dior)
5. Jolie Madame (Balmain)
6. Jicky (Guerlain)
7. Gold Woman (Amouage)
8. Mata Hari (DSH)
9. L'Air du Desert Moracain (Tauer)
10. Medici - Italian Splendor: Florence (DSH)
*in no particular order because it's too hard!
@claresauntie: it is quite addictive....can't stop sniffing my arm everytime I sample it.
I would like to add a new discovery for me. Histoires de Parfum Ambre 114, great complex frag. Also Ambre Russe, great amber with a kickass boozy opening.
I'm wearing Ambre Sultan today and though it is lovely and definitely full bottle worthy, I want to recommend another favourite; Ambre Gris by Balmain. It's not as sweet as Sultan, though it has a delicious caramel aspect. The sweetness is offset by a sprinkling of salt, making it for me, an amber scent that works well in summer too. It's not as in-your-face AMBER! as Sultan, but it's a comfortable and easy to wear kind of scent. And I like the disco ball stopper, but I know many find it too over the top.
Looks like the (controversial) king of amber is:
at the moment L'Air du Desert Marocain and Bond No.9 Harrods Amber.........but I plan to add The Sultan to that list very soon............happy days!!
All the best ones I know about have been mentioned a few times already, but I just wanted to add that when I wore Ambre Precieux (vintage) the other day to work, I got two compliments from co-workers, one of whom interrupted herself in mid-sentence to tell me how good I smelled! (The re-formuated version you can get now is excellent as well. I have, and wear, both.)
I've only sampled SL's Ambre Sultan enough to decide that it is outstanding and sooner or later I will probably buy a full bottle of it.
I am very curious of PG's L'Ombre Fauve though.
Ambre Narguile and Ambre soie is very nice.
I did not liked Ambre Sultan at all.
Also, i need to try Ambre Fetiche and Amber Absolute for the very good recommendations here
I have Ambre Russe, Ambre Sultan and Blue Amber, with some decants of l'air (i don't consider it and "amber fragrance"), ambre precieux, l'ombre fauve and ambre 114
I love the first 3 in no particular order: Russe is complex, original, boozy, rich, kinda decadent. The Sultan is herbal, strong, with character. Blue Amber is the easiest to wear, more a sweet crowd pleaser than the others, not as loud as the sultan, but very very longlasting.
Ambre precieux is "too polite" for my tastes. L'Ombre Fauve, i've worn it once and didn't get that much amber out of it. Ambre 114 is austere, need to test it more.
Probably Tom Ford Youth Dew Amber Nude
I admit to not trying many of the others recommended here, but I am a fan of Tom Ford's Amber Absolute.
For me its MDCI Ambre Topkapi(thanks James)/Amber 114/Ambre Russe
YSL Opium Pour Homme EDP and Madini Ambergris

My first fragrance post , but I've been smitten by the Ambra Aurea bug and am compelled to suggest you give it a try. I have a lot more ambers to scope out myself, but this one is going to be a pal for some time.
It's pretty single minded in a constant all day friendly way, so while not as conversationally witty as some other ambers, it's always grinning and giving encouragement. It also brings a smile to my face.

It's a tie between Ambre Sultan and Amber Absolute.
Amber is my weakness and these are my two most worn.
