    Default Macho, it's b-a-a-a-ad!!!!

Long before Gaultier thought of Le Male's naked male torso for a bottle, there was Macho by Faberge. You may remember it because the bottle was shaped, well, like a phallus, but the spritzer hole wasn't where you thought it should be, heheheee. That's right, somebody thought of it before me. And Jean-Paul. I wish I could find the picture on the internet of it. I was looking thru a book called "70s Fashion" from Taschen, and there it was along with a bunch of other frag ads. Man, those ad execs sure had some balls back then, literally. An ad for Jovan sports a "Man" bottle ready to enter a "Woman" bottle.

Anyway, has anyone ever smelled Macho? Anybody still have a bottle of it? I know it's gone to the great scent heaven in the sky, but surely some of you have some memories of it.
"I exist for myself, and for those to whom my unquenchable thirst for freedom gives everything, but also for everyone, since insofar as I am able to love - I love everyone. Of noble hearts, I am the noblest - and the most generous of those that yearn to give love in return. - I am a human being, I love death and I love life."

Would this be considered not safe for work? I found a German advert for Macho.

Watched the Jovan commercial and I immediately thought of Armani's Emporio bottles how they would connect or Matsushima as they look like they could connect also. What's old is new (?)

The bottle looks less like a penis and more like a...marital aid.

What this commercial lacks in subtlety, it makes up for in hilariousness

And Macho was actually a good 70s frag from the same stable as Brut, Babe and Kiku. Unfortunately discontinued long before fragrance reviews became an item. Not really a powerhouse, but held its own at the disco. Those were the days........ *lapses into nostalgia*

I remember seeing this one in the stores back in the day. Never wore it (I was a Brut Guy) but it was popular here in nyc during the Disco days

Then someone's daddy must have a forgotten bottle in a medicine cabinet somewhere. We need all BNers to be on the lookout.

I remember seeing this in stores when I was a teenager, and it was so horrifically tacky back then -- wow, I couldn't have imagined the shame and embarrassment of taking this up to the sales counter for purchase.

This was released around the same time that lots of tacky 70s fashion icons were doing their most diabolical work. I remember reading the application instructions on the back of some 70s fragrance, maybe Jovan Musk, to my friends, while we were hanging around in JC Penneys at the local mall. "Apply behind ears. Dab on the inside of wrists. Touch some to your chest. Dip penis in bottle."

Well, it didn't really say that last part, but I'll never forget how we all had to leave the store in a hurry because we were laughing too hard.

To anyone reading this thinking, "Oh, how charming, I wish I had been there in the 70s:" NO. Stop it. It was horrible then. It's still horrible.

This past week I saw bottles of "Macho" cologne at my local 99 cent store in the NYC area. It was a plastic bottle with green juice inside, the word "Macho" in white letters on a black label. Looked to me like a "Brut" knockoff...I wonder if this is the modern version of the vintage Faberge? has anyone else seen this?

Scent-wise, i think Fabergé upped the macho factor with Cellini for Men just 2 years later in 1980.

I happen to like it a lot too.

    cheers
