    Default Server Busy? Drink Tea!

    A Mad Tea Party

Most of you may have noticed, the server tends to grind to halt round here when it is busy. We do need to upgrade our server, but the monthly costs for the server we need are three times as much as we pay at the moment.

If we could raise money for a couple of months, hopefully we will have a site stable enough to sell some decent advertising on and all will be well.

We are going to hold a virtual tea party to raise some funds to go towards costs, thereby eradicating the server busy message for at least a year!

    How does it work?

Have a little look in my 'postbit' above. That's the part with my username, post count and other bits in. To the left of my 'Supporter Badge' is a cup of tea. You can buy a cup of tea to help raise funds.

    How much for a cuppa?

As much or as little as you like. You can pay us for you tea via paypal.

If I pay more do I get a bigger cup?

No, you may get posher tea though.

    Can I drink the tea?

No, but you can look at it.

    What's the point?

None really, well apart from the whole server thing.

    Are tea supplies limited?

Yes we only have 500 cups of tea. Once they are gone they are gone. We may introduce another drink later on.

Ok, I'll drink your tea - how do i do it?

Paypal your tea-money to gosborne@gmail.com - stating clearly your forum username. I'll serve you your tea as soon as possible

Are there any benefits from drinking the tea?

No. Only the badge. No secret tea drinkers forum, No marketplace posting to swap teas. Just the badge. Oh, and once you have drunk you tea - no refunds!

Why is a raven like a writing desk?

    You tell me...

    ADDED 16th November 2009

I've just had a few people ask if they can still buy tea cups. I originally said I'd stop at 500 cups, and we sold around 60, so there are still loads left if people were feeling generous. The site does cost a lot to run, so every little helps. You can also buy tea for another member if you like tea!

    Thanks

This is a fun idea, Grant!

Bookcrossing.com offers something similar, where members can purchase wings and/or supporting memberships for themselves or as gifts to other members. They offer the option of giving these gifts anonymously, which can add a little "secret benefactor" mystery.

It's a bit ironic for me, I just this second finished watching a documentary about an organic gourmet tea importer working out of rural China -- buying organic tea one little handbasket at a time from family farmers.

Surely, it's a sign. I must have a cup, Lipton budget notwithstanding!

Earl Grey for me. I like Twinings because the foil packets keep the bergamot oil from evaporating.

So, where is the back door to the Wardrobe?
    Do tell.
And while you're at it, is there one for Fragrance Reviews?
    I cannot post reviews.
It says it recognizes my login, but then it doesn't.
Even on the forum, my login "times out" when I take too long to type a reply.
I lost several posts before teaching myself to copy them before pressing the send button.
Even there, the login bounces me to a blank page.
