Default In search of a DRY vanilla scent

I find that most men's scents that have vanilla as their dominant note tend to be overtly deep musky or sickly sweet.

While some of these scents are almost likeable to my nose (Au Maculin, Rochas Man, or even Fleur de Male) I find that the tendency in men's perfumes is to always mix vanilla with some darker ; floral (e.g. violet- a note I dislike), resinous (benzoin, amber etc) or very intense woody notes (sandalwood).

Generally speaking vanilla is probably my favourite note and I feel it has not been explored fully with regards to its use in male fragrance. On the contrary I have smelt some very interesting female vanilla-centred scents (e.g. Hypnotic Poison, Heliotrope-Etro etc). Although the latter is probably lacking in character.

So my question is do you know of a dry (don't mind slightly spicy) vanilla-centred scent targeted at men?

    Thanx in advance

    L' artisan Vanilia.

Creed's Vanisia might be a tad on the sweet side, but there are many fans of that one, too.

I get vanilla from Chanel Egoiste. It is sweet, but also dry and woody.

this is supposed to be the whole concept behind Apothia "Velvet Rope". I guess it's unisex.

    Le Labo's Vanille 44.

I think this could be just what your after.
Although its a Paris exclusive and it costs an arm and a leg, its worth it, IMO.

I agree with ajmc - Vanille 44 was the first one that popped in my head. It really is, though, ridiculously expensive. It's also a very modern take on vanilla. When I wore it I got the impression this is what vanilla smells like on a space ship orbiting the solar system. It was so transparent and ethereal - I loved it. Perfect for warm weather and altogether unisex.

Another scent with a dry vanilla, on the other complete side of the coin in styles, is Habit Rouge by Guerlain. Try the Eau de Cologne version first, like I did. Good stuff. And about $500 cheaper a bottle than the V44.

I suggest either Guerlain Spiriteuse Double Vanille or Givenchy Pi, but they might be too sickly sweet to your nose.

I have just ordered a sample of Santa Maria Novella´s Vaniglia because of this description: "Vaniglia: An unusual vanilla. It is not very sweet and has a distinctly smoky note. It is quite lovely."

    Still waiting though...

Our you sure it is not the "cold vanilla" that you are looking for?

I am just joking because I recall "Answers From The Cologne Guy" stating that PS Fine Cologne was Cold Vanilla - a term I never in my life of studying fragrances ever read of.

So may I ask what is a "dry vanilla" guys?

I suggest that you give Boucheron's Jaipur a try. An affordable, high quality oriental that has a vanilla/heliotrope base.

    Try Ignition from Lomani.

It's dirt cheap, but has a wonderful, somewhat bitter vanilla note.

Even better when you layer it with Divine's L'Home Sage and/or a tiny bit of Burning Leaves from CB I Hate Parfum.

I like Joseph Statkus for vanilla with an incense edge to it - very smoothe. Also Guerlain's Heritage has a nice vanilla presence in the form of a masculine scent. Jaipur Homme is also very vanilla and quite dry.

Pi is pretty freaking sweet. In a sickly way after too many wears.
